A list of puns related to "Degrassi High"
Iβve noticed those shows are talked a lot less compared to next generation & next class
I hate to say it because I love Degrassi Classic and go on about how underrated it is because of it's overshadowing by TNG but...Claude's suicide plot in Degrassi High did not age well at all. In fact, I feel it's actually PAINFULLY unsympathetic to the idea of depression and suicide. Claude is not a popular character, but honestly, I don't really hate him. In fact, I actually feel sorry for him.
As someone who struggles with mental health, I don't like how the writers seem to vilify Claude's depression and ideation, and use it against the more popular main characters. Claude's suicide is portrayed as manipulative and the lack of compassion most of the other characters seems to have just hurts to watch. First they portray him as some "coward", and then they paint his mental health struggles and subsequent self-inflicted death in such an unsympathetic light it's not funny.
They make sure to traumatize two of the more popular main characters (Snake with finding him, Caitlin because he 'manipulated' her) so that you feel nothing for Claude. Not to mention, they give his other issues a two second mention in the episode he does it in: his parents are getting divorced, he can't stay with his mother because her boyfriend hates him, and he can't stay with his dad for a reason not explained.
I feel like with Claude, they wanted to portray how suicide hurts others. But in doing this, they failed to focus on the hurting that's happening within the person who actually committed suicide. They just wrote him off as some manipulative coward. Watching this, and then Bittersweet Symphony, reminds me of how much progress has been made in understanding depression and suicide. Anyone else feel this way?
moonlight desires haunt meeeeeee
I notice quite a few people in the fandom say that they were put off Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High because of the old video quality/production. Over the last few days I've been thinking of a project that could be undertaken to try and rectify that issue, given that now we have the deep learning resources to do it. I feel like we are never going to see a true HD remaster of the eighties Degrassi series because it's a very specific niche and interest/demand isn't high, but I feel like it would be interesting to see what could be done by us with the resources that are available. Part of the inspiration I've gotten from this idea is this fan remaster of the Jackass TV show. While this project was mostly focused on reconstructing what that show looked like on its original broadcast, part of the undertaking involved upscaling, and just the entire idea of a fan-made definitive edition is absolutely great and as a Degrassi fan I want to do a similar thing, because it's very unlikely the real thing will happen.
I'm not talking about just the video either, I also mean the audio, because that could also do with a bit of a redo. I have iZotope RX8 which allows you to isolate dialogue and I've tried it on some dialogue from DJH and it was pretty decent.. Unfortunately, I have a pretty lame low-end laptop so it cannot handle video upscaling (but does the audio thing okay-ish), which is why I'm interested to collab with someone who has a GPU powerful enough to run the episodes through an AI upscaling program, while I dissect the audio from the episodes and practically reconstruct it for the new upscaled video to be placed on top of, because that's pretty much all I'm able to efficiently do when it comes to AI on my shitbox lol. My vision for a remaster like this would also mean remastering the theme music and any other music where ever possible, which would probably be one of the trickiest parts, but it can be done.
Is there anyone on this sub that has a GPU that is capable of running AI video upscaling? I'm really interested in pursuing this idea.
Anya and Sav, Spinner and Darcy, Conner and Jenna and Eli and Clare.
Its up for interpretation how u feel about the term villain, I know that firsthand after a poll I did awhile back put Raditch as the 3rd biggest villain of the RIck Murray situation (Rick and Jay beat him), personally I put Alex and Spinner ahead of him due to them actually bullying Rick. But anyway thats an explanation of me putting villain in quotations in the title.
All 3 options had their bad moments as partially explained in brackets with each option, I will get more into it when I do my CDUO (Cutter Degrassi Unpopular Opinions) on this storyline but Im sure u guys will have ur own thoughts on this issue at hand. Any thoughts u have that may be useful to my judgment when i tape that CDUO, u may comment them in the comment section.
HAVE AT IT!!!
If it wasn't for the one semester per season thing Degrassi had going on there, then they would only be on the show for two seasons.
So I have watched the new generation I have not watch the next class or Degrassi hi or the kids of degrassi street but I was wondering should I watch all of these things? Iβm not really into watching the next class because to me it seems a little corny but I might watch it I donβt know and I just want to know if the Degrassi high is corny or not because I think it be cool to get to see you like snakes story and Emmaβs mom and everything. I donβt know Iβm just totally the next generation kid and so Iβm a little biased.
I recently decided to rewatch Degrassi The Next Generation, but then I thought it might be a good idea to go back to the OG first, since I've never seen it (I know Kids of Degrassi Street is technically the first, but it's a different timeline, and harder to find). I'm currently on season 2 of DJH, and I just wanted to know everyone's thoughts.
My take so far: It was a little slow at first, but I'm much more invested now. Currently my favorite character is Caitlin, she just seems really nice and kind, like a good friend. And my least favorite is Kathleen, I sympathize with what she's going through, but she treats others like dirt constantly, and it irks me.
I haven't seen this show since it was on our local PBS station many moons ago.
Some observations:
Teachers really need to keep the hands off the students. Just don't.
The Zit Remedy needs to make more than 1 song, and have it longer than 15 seconds. This song just gets played into the ground.
As soon as Stephanie is gone, the show get kind of dull.
I'm not sure if this show mimiced every teen trope, or created them.
This show did an amazing job of wiping any evidence it was in Canada. It could be set anywhere in America.
Joey is 100% unlikeable in the first handful of episodes.
And yet, I can't stop watching. I'm on Degrassi High now.
Iβm 23 and started watching when the boiling point came out. But I just canβt imagine the excitement of watching degrassi junior high and Degrassi high every week when it came out on tv and then seeing spikes daughter Emma and all the original characters 10 years later. If anyone was an original watcher Iβd love to hear about what it was like watching next gen premiere!

I'm just curious, also in relation to later Degrassi (TNG/ Next Class)
Iβm not sure if itβs because they didnβt have a new group of kids ready or DNG is just REALLY long, but wow it felt short. It was extremely realistic and all the characters were likable, but there is so much more that couldβve been done. Also certain characters deserved more story lines Yick yu,Snake,Diana,Stephanie,Arthur. In general I wish they added more episodes or seasons.
WildBrain should remaster Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High in 1080p HD. I know they probably won't care enough to do it, but I'd still love to see the OGs in a higher quality. The YouTube uploads claim to be in HD but they're just the same quality as the DVDs, just maybe a little bit sharper. The shows were shot on 16mm film so it could easily be scanned to 1080p and made to have similar quality to the first season of Next Gen. I think remastering the show will not only give a different viewing experience especially for newer viewers, but show that people still care about the OG shows enough to do/want that. I'd like to see some sort of Shout! Factory sort of treatment, like a box set that packs Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High, Degrassi High, School's Out and Degrassi Talks remastered in HD (not Talks, that was shot on videotape) and a boatload of rare special features and is called "Degrassi: The First Generation".
Hey yβall, my friend and I spent about half a year working on a long video essay about the 80s / 90s Degrassi show, so I thought Iβd post in here for any who might be interested! Let me know any thoughts / comments you may haveβ¦ hope you like it!
