The Death of Elisa Lam (The Vanishing at Cecil Hotel)

slight spoiler

They should definitely cover the death of Elisa Lam (more well known as The Vanishing at Cecil Hotel).

Although the cause of death was eventually figured out, it is still heavily debated how she got there with the main mystery revolving around a very strange clip of her in an elevator and just how she ended up in her final resting place due to the weight of the lid of the water tank.

There are many strange twists along the way, with the hotel itself having a history of unsolved murders, mainly on a specific floor.

The whole story is intensely intriguing, and there's a Netflix documentary for them to pull lots of info from.

Would love to see them discuss this.

Hello, I really hope I am in the right spot for submitting a story. I don't think you have told this as i could not find it while I searched your stories. Anyway this is a true story that took place at the very haunted Cecil Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Infact if you are familiar with American Horror Story, they did a season on the Cecil Hotel only the name was changed to The Hotel Cortez. Anyway I will include the link with all the info on it and really bizarre stuff that took place before they found her body in the water heater on the roof totally naked. Thank you for reading this and I hope you haven't used this story already...my apologies if you have used it. Thanks again!! https://allthatsinteresting.com/elisa-lam-death

TIL that in 2013, "Internet sleuths" wrongly accused Pablo Vergara of the mysterious death of Elisa Lam. He became a victim of doxing, cyber-bullying, and cancel culture. He attempted suicide and his life has never been the same, despite having been officially exonerated.

In 2013 a Canadian tourist in the United States mysteriously vanished and was later found dead in a water tower on top of the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles.

Because of the nature of her death, miscommunication from the police about the water tower hatch, and some mysterious footage showing her behaving erratically on an elevator, the Internet took special interest in the case.

To this day it is considered an unsolved mystery by some. There are theories as far out there as blaming aliens or inter-dimensional beings for her death.

One early theory though was that she was killed by Pablo Vergara. Pablo, who went by the stage name Morbid, was a Mexican death metal musician. And he happened to stay at that same hotel about a year before Elisa's death.

At the time, however, he wasn't even in the country. He was in Mexico recording music. And he even had receipts from the recording studio to prove it.

That didn't stop people from latching on to him as the killer though. He received hundreds of death threats. The Mexican police came to question him. And his social media accounts (with his music and livelihood) were taken down by Internet activists who spam reported his accounts until they were deleted.

He eventually attempted suicid and has sense been unable to create new music.

This case received new attention because of a Netflix docuseries which actually interviews him and some of the prominent Internet sleuths who accused him early in the case.

The way it played out is no different from any other false accusation. He complains about the fact that his life was completely destroyed. And he didn't receive any kind of help or even an apology when it became clear that he was innocent. Everyone just kind of moved on and left him to pick up what was left of his life. Some of these Internet sleuths do admit that they jumped the gun when they accused him but they still don't seem to understand the magnitude of their actions and the effect that it had on Pablo.

In the end, Elisa Lam's death was ruled to be an accidental downing, although suicide is a strong possibility. She was bipolar schizophrenic and toxicology reports, in addition to physical evidence, show that she had recently quit taking her medication. Which likely explains her erratic behavior on the elevator that got everyone's attention.

It's obviously a sad case whenever anyone dies, especially when suicide is suspected. Lisa Lam was only 21 years old and she had a lot of potential to be a w

What are your opinions on Elisa Lam death cause?

I don't believe that she died due to her having "bipolar" and not taking her medication.

It just doesn't make sense to me as it just doesn't add up.

First of all the elevator footage of her in an elevator looking like she was talking to a demon has led to some people believing she was playing the elevator game which makes a bit of sense.

Secondly if she did die because of not taking her medication why did she take of her clothes and why does was there blood in the water.

Im sorry its just not believable.

Im sorry if anyone is offended or hurt as that wasnt my intention

(You can see in the comments how I think she died.)

Weekly Case Discussion #10: The Death of Elisa Lam

This case is more of a mystery than a true crime case, but I remember when it happened it was a huge interest all over the internet. I've discussed it on Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, 4chan, various message boards, and it's always extremely interesting. Before we begin this case, I want to let everyone know about a four episode doc on Netflix about this case called "Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel". Hopefully that's available globally on there. If not, there's also a recent episode of The Nighttime Podcast in which someone involved with that series is interviewed. Be sure to check it out if you can!

This case will discuss struggles with severe mental health struggles.

Elisa Lam, also known by her Cantonese name, Lam Ho Yi, was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on April 30th, 1991. Her parents immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong. Elisa was a student of the University of British Columbia, but was not registered at the beginning of 2013, when she decided to travel solo throughout North America. She arrived in Los Angeles on Jan 26, 2013, and checked into the Cecil Hotel two days later. She was initially assigned a shared room on the hotel's fifth floor, which acted like a hostel. Elisa was moved to her own room after two days, due to her roomates complaining about odd behaviour from Elisa.

Elisa suffered from bipolar disorder and depression, and was prescribed multiple medications to treat her disorders. Her family believed she had no history of suicidal thoughts, but it was reported she had gone missing for a brief period in the past.

Elisa contacted her parents in British Columbia every day while traveling, so on February 1st, 2013, the day she was supposed to check out of the Cecil Hotel and head out to Santa Cruz, her parents became concerned when they did not hear from her. She had not checked out, and LAPD were called to report her missing. Her family flew to LA to help with the search. Hotel staff recalled seeing her alone that day. Outside the hotel, a bookstore manager was the only person that recalled seeing her and described her as outgoing and friendly. Police searched the hotel to the legal extent that they could. Searched her room, took K9 through the building including the rooftop, but K9s were unsuccessful in detecting her scent.

On February 15th, two weeks after she had gone missing, LAPD released the elevator video, which is the last known sighting of Elisa taken in one of the hotel elevators on Feb 1st. The video is unu

The Death of Elisa Lam

I’m sure all of you are familiar with the girl who was found dead in a water tank at the Cecil Hotel. I’ve added a link for those who aren’t and to demonstrate something I’ve noticed.

I’m a bit of a death, murder and conspiracy enthusiast and remember reading about Elisa Lam a while ago, and remember very clearly that people were saying that the hatch to the water tank was closed, further adding to how odd this case is because β€œhow could she have closed it from inside the tank?”.

But now, every video I watch or article I read has someone very clearly stating that they went up and immediately saw that the hatch was open. For example in the following link, it is quoted:

β€œI noticed the hatch to the main water tank was open and looked inside and saw an Asian woman lying face-up in the water approximately twelve inches from the top of the tank”

Anybody else got this?
