Hello, it's your dear friend Wannabe_Sadboi here to offer some analysis and insight into this recent Destiny and David Pakman discussion. While the conversation started off around this tweet from Pakman, and Destiny's response to it, it came to touch on a few more subjects related to Rittenhouse and Pakman's coverage of it.
However, before I get fully into it, there's a few things I want to make clear:
- My sole point in doing this is because I am a fan of Destiny, I agree (more or less) with his takes regarding Kyle Rittenhouse and the trial leading to his acquittal, and I want him to convince as much people as he can on this (and other things) because I feel the current discourse is extremely toxic. This is the focus. The point is not to debate random redditors around the merit of every little argument, or to defend Pakman, or to impugn Destiny or his community morally, or pull a Bookfucker and be like "I just want better discourse". I just felt the conversation had Destiny come out looking poorly, there were things he could do better, and I wanted to highlight those things.
- Just because I'm being critical of Destiny and telling him there were things he could improve on does not mean I don't think there were things Pakman did that looked shitty and came off weird. These include David asking Destiny if he was autistic, or him sarcastically conceding to Destiny earlier in the debate.
- Additionally, even when I may defend that there is something Pakman is saying that is legitimately his opinion and I don't think he's factually wrong on it, this does not mean I agree with his opinion, or that saying "That's my opinion" makes something immune to criticism. It just means that you have to have a different way of attacking something that going "OH THIS IS JUST FACTUALLY WRONG".
- A lot of you guys have made a lot of great threads about other Pakman videos that you feel like were dishonest or show problems, and that's awesome. With that being said, I'm only going to be looking at what Destiny himself actually brought into the conversation. If those are killer points that help him, it's his job to bring up that evidence and use it.

I don't actually like Pakman very much because he is often way too comfortable with compromise for my tastes, so it was a bit disconcerting to hear him advocate for progressives to withdraw support for BIF and reconciliation bill over the immense watering down.
Personal Take:
I think it might be better for progressives to leverage their power right now to hold BIF hostage and make a list of 10 demands for Biden to do via executive order. Biden is showing himself to be willing to accommodate Manchin and Sinema on their demands on a gutless reconciliation bill. I think he can be pushed to do at least some of the things below, if progressives show that they are willing to shoot down BIF and reconciliation.
Something along the lines of
(1) Forgive all student debt (if you say all, it'll end up actually being $5-$10,000 per person)
(2) Effectively decriminalize weed by de-scheduling weed. Pardoning all nonviolent offenders/commuting their sentences.
(4) Request Federal Reserve to include climate change under consideration for businesses and increase minimum reserve balances for banks lending to fossil fuel companies or involved in other risky businesses. Deny all new fossil fuel permits.
(5) Impose a size cap on banks
(6) Actually and swiftly close Guantanamo Bay/Enact other anti Imperialist substantial foreign policy
