Pretty amazing career Magee has had at Wofford
Does anyone have a pdf of the script?

Over the years I have heard fantasy fans saying they are looking for a new series with X from this author and Y from that author. When looking for a new epic fantasy series, I am always on the prowl looking for a story that has the humongous world building we see from Steven Erikson and combine that with the wonderous magic systems we are always treated to with Brandon Sanderson. Well it took about 5 years but I finally found it and I am delighted to share it with you. Mageβs Blood by David Hair has to this day been a relative unknown to most SFF readers and it is every bit as: creative, captivating, absorbing, and down write spectacular as anything top SFF authors have printed recently. So sit back, relax, and let me take you on a journey to the wonderful world of Urte.
The two continents of Yuros and Antiopia are divided by a huge body of water, unable to be crossed by sea or air due to the high tides and gusting winds. The two lands were completely separate until the ascendant mages decided to build the Leviathan Bridge which will rise from the sea once every twelve years during the Moontide. The bridge was meant to facilitate trade between the two continents, but two Moontides ago the Empire of Yuros decided to launch the First crusade against Antiopia and imposes his will on the foreign land. Twelve years later the Second Crusade was launched and the cycle of war was cemented. The story begins with the Third crusade about to get underway, but the people of Antiopia are ready and will go to any depths to defend their home from invasion.
The magic system is very unique and as complex as anything in the SFF community today. Magic is passed down through heritage starting from the ascendant mages who built the Leviathan Bridge. Every new generation receives half the magical powers or gnosis until the magic is no longer present in the blood stream. The more prominent the gnosis is in the mage, the more powerful the spells and magic can be. The casting of spells is broken down based on the four elements: Earth, wind, fire, and water. Then he has four different affinities that can be used in various ways. The system is too complex to explain so Iβll show you the below table. What Mr. Hair does with his magic system is brilliant and plays a huge part in the story.

Kate Elliott is, in my opinion, one of the most criminally underappreciated writers in SFF. Black Wolves probably ranks in my Top 5 Favorite Epic Fantasies of the 2010s, and I've been reading Crown of Stars (partly to console myself after Black Wolves' sequel was axed) with the utmost pleasure. Even The Spiritwalker Trilogy, while I had some issues with the romantic plot (>!no woman should ever live Happily Ever After with a man who has tried to murder her!<), is among my favorites.
But I believe that of all I've read of her work, the one I admire most is an essay entitled "Writing Women Characters as Human Beings": https://www.tor.com/2015/03/04/writing-women-characters-as-human-beings/
While the essay makes quite a few strong points, the one I can't get out of my head, as one of the most practical pieces of advice that too many people consistently fail to follow, is, "Get rid of . . . the idea of an unknowable Other with a mysterious psychology." This makes perfect sense to me, not only in writing characters but in living and relating to people in the real world. This is what I would have said in the "Authors Who Can't Write Female Characters Can't Write Characters" thread, if it hadn't been locked before I got to it.
Authors too often fail to write convincing characters, of one gender or another, because consciously or unconsciously they have too much invested in identifying those characters as "not like me," and fixating on the traits that distinguish that character from themselves. They think of "Women," or "Men," as a plural, a group-mind that share a narrow selection of traits that are presumably rooted in their gender, rather than seeing the character of the gender different from themselves as a distinct individual with a personality that transcends stereotype. While I wouldn't go quite so far as to say that if they can't write characters of a different gender well or convincingly, that means they can't write characters at all, I would say it's a flaw that's worth talking about. It's also a dealbreaker for me as a reader. Nothing throws me out of a story faster than a sense of being "Othered," so I avoid writers who have a well-documented reputation for writing female characters as an incomprehensible "Them" (as in "Us" vs. "Them").
I just wish there weren't so many fantasy writers with this kind of reputation. Gene Wolfe, Robert Jordan, Piers Anthony,

Cleaned. Only LitRPG books are on the list.
Here's the highest number of ratings at the Goodreads Progression Fantasy shelf.
Letβs be honest: everyone knows about Cradle. Itβs one of the best-known fantasy series today, with the latest book actually cracking #1 on Amazonβs charts for a few days because so many people devoured it on Day One.
I wasnβt one of themβ¦
Iβve heard amazing things about Cradle, but Iβd never gotten around to reading it until recently. I needed some good indie fantasy, something a bit lighter after a David Gemmell (Druss/Waylander) binge.
Iβm going to start off by telling you what I didnβt like about it:
- Not a damn thing. Honestly, that was the easiest 8 hours of listening Iβve experienced since Red Rising. Solid intro, great character from the beginning, intriguing magic system, and great pacing.
Let me tell what you I liked/loved about it:
- Lindon. Very possibly the most relatable, easiest-to-like YA character Iβve read since Aram in ML Spencerβs Dragon Mage. Heβs an βeverymanβ character that pretty much anyone can root for. After all, who doesnβt love the underpowered underdog story?
- Lindonβs progression. I believe this book is one of the early exemplars of the now-well-established βprogression fantasyβ. Itβs got a pretty clear hierarchy of powers (foundation, copper, iron, jade, etc.), a well-defined scope of powers, and boundaries that make it a βhardβ magic system that is very easy to follow. Or, in Lindonβs case, NOT follow because he canβt scale up as an Unsouled.
- Cunning and trickery. There were times when I felt a little guilty for enjoying how Lindon tricked his way through things, but by the 50% mark, I was all there for it. Itβs incredibly well done on the authorβs part to throw Lindon up against escalating challenges that are both impossible and yet somehow attainable thanks to some tiny detail he scattered into an earlier part of the bookβsome trivial thing that, to anyone else, would have meant nothing, but which Lindonβs mind uses to do amazing things.
- The world. The farther into the book I got, the more βrealβ the world became. Despite all the strange flora and fauna, the background details were fleshed out so well (never info-dumpy, though) that it became easy to imagine it. There were parts where I wasnβt really grounded in the setting, but that was okay because the focus is always on Lindon and what heβs going to do. The bits and pieces of the world that I did get were enough to paint a clear picture of the world.
- The narrator. Travis Baldree is awesome! This is my first time listeni

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.
If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
Thank you,
A Dad.
