A list of puns related to "David Coote"
I personally would. I'm not going to sit here and say I'm an expert on rugby, but from what I have watched it seems their referees and laws are much less frustrating. I enjoy how the refs are mic'd up so you can hear the thoughts and process the officials are going through, how they justify their decisions.
I also have seen a few instances where it feels like they're just using common sense which is mind blowing when you're a football fan. Like say a lad does a high tackle in rugby, I've heard the refs say "mitigating circumstances are the tackled player was falling and there wasn't sufficient time to pull out of the tackle" and stuff like that. Imagine if that kind of common sense was applied to things like the handball rule! No way would lascelles have been punished yesterday as there was no chance he could have avoided it from that distance when executing a high kick which requires your arms for balance. They also seem to take "clear and obvious" to mean clear and obvious which is nice.
Again, I'm no rugby expert this is just based on what I've seen. I've probably watched about 25 games and never really felt hugely frustrated by the refereeing process like I do with the majority of football now.
Thought this could be an interesting conversation

David Coote needs to be managed properly through the crisis he finds himself in, just like a centre-forward who is not scoring goals. Sport is about confidence and you can take the guy out of the oven and give him advice and build his confidence. If that means giving Coote a run of Championship games, out of the spotlight, do that then bring him back. In the Premier League there is no low-profile game and he needs to be managed through it.
His confidence would have been affected before his match at Old Trafford when he was taken off the Liverpool game as VAR. That showed a lack of consistency because if he is not good enough to be in the VAR role, why keep him on the active role for Manchester United’s game?
I thought it was an error to put him on the Liverpool game to begin with, given his involvement in the Jordan Pickford situation. It cannot be confirmed but I suspect that phone calls have been going on between Liverpool and the PGMOL to say they don’t want this guy on our game as VAR.
It is a bit of a downer to be taken off the game and for it to be publicly announced. He’s a relative new kid on the block as far as the Premier League is concerned and it does take time to establish yourself. He has a Fifa badge and that takes him into Europe but in reality an announcement should have been made earlier. His big decision in the United game was to overturn West Brom’s penalty after looking at the pitchside monitor.
He is in a great position and has made the call and he’s right, it’s a nailed-on penalty kick. I’m questioning why the VAR has seen that as a clear and obvious error because he should not come in unless that is the case. There is psychological pressure when the referee is asked to look at the monitor. He is already thinking ‘I must be wrong’.
There should be independence and the referee should have no problem with sticking with his original call but I suspect he has walked the walk to the monitor and in his own mind is feeling pressure and thinking ‘I’ve made a mistake’. I don’t think he does a forensic examination of the video. It is a glance. It looks like he has already made up his mind.
It’s the same with Michael Oliver when he overturned his own decision to award Aston Villa a penalty. It’s a clear, nailed-on penalty k

Match build-up
Liverpool have faced Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup in two previous campaigns, eliminating the Shrews in the fourth round in both 1995/96 and 2019/20, the latter after a replay.
Shrewsbury have been eliminated from the FA Cup by Premier League opponents in five of the last six seasons, with three of those ties going to a replay. They lost 1-0 to Southampton in the 2020/21 season in the third round.
Liverpool have progressed from nine of their last ten FA Cup third-round ties, losing the other 2-1 in the 2018/19 season against Wolves.
Shrewsbury Town have won their last two away FA Cup matches, beating Stratford Town and Carlisle United this season. The Shrews have never won three in a row on the road in the FA Cup proper.
Since joining the Football League in 1893, Liverpool have only lost two home FA Cup matches against sides outside the top two tiers of English football, losing to Norwich City in 1908/09 and Bolton Wanderers in 1992/93.

Aston Villa Team News
Aston Villa could give debuts to new signings Lucas Digne and Philippe Coutinho, with the latter poised to make his first Premier League appearance in four years.
Ashley Young is still nursing a broken toe and John McGinn is suspended.
Manchester United Team News
Manchester United pair Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay are also suspended.
Harry Maguire, Phil Jones, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo all missed Monday's FA Cup win over Villa but they should be fit for Saturday's match.
Aston Villa won the reverse league fixture 1-0 and could do the double against Manchester United for the first time since 1954-55.
However, Villa's current winless run of 22 Premier League home games against United is a top-flight record (D7, L15).
The Birmingham side's most recent home league victory in this fixture was by 3-1 in August 1995. They also won 3-0 in the League Cup in 1999.
Manchester United were awarded a penalty in each of the past four Premier League meetings. Bruno Fernandes took all four, scoring the first three but missing at Old Trafford last September.
Villa have lost 10 of their past 14 competitive fixtures, including the last three in a row.
The Red Devils could lose their opening two league games of a calendar year for the first time since 1985.
Villa's total of 21 Premier League home defeats since returning to the top flight in 2019 is the most of any club.
United have equalled the club record of six Premier League defeats at the halfway stage of a season, previously set in 2001-02.
Villa could go 17 top-flight matches without a draw for the first time since a run of 29 between September 1964 and April 1965.
