A list of puns related to "Dave Robicheaux"
I love James Lee Burke's book series about Cajun Detective Dave Robicheaux and I also love movies. Burke's hero has appeared in two films - Heaven's Prisoners and In The Electric Mist. Alex Baldwin portrayed Dave in former with Jones doing the job in the latter. Both films, disappointingly, performed rather poorly.
Personally, I liked Alec Baldwin's performance much more because I feel like he embodied the pathos and depth of the character where Jones seemed too gruff and in command. One of the reasons that Dave is such an interesting character - in my opinion - is that no matter who the antagonist is, he himself always seems to be his own worst enemy. Conflicted, tortured and morose, yet still hopeful.
I know it's a stretch to think of such things, but I'd actually love to see Baldwin play there character again. It's also too bad we've never gotten to see Dave's wayward friend Clete Purcel brought to the screen yet.
Fairly new to this sub but I feel like people rehash the same authors and same books pretty often. I just finished reading 'Wayfaring Strangers' by James Lee Burke and it was fantastic. I thought it was interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat most of the time, unable to put the book down. I think what also made me like it so much was because I did not think it would hold my interest (it is classified as 'historical fiction' on GoodReads) because I've never read a book in that genre before that I loved or was eager to read. I was completely blown away by his poetic writing and his way of describing people and scenes. The story was not a mystery but did have elements of a mystery in it (The author is most well-known for his 'Dave Robicheaux' series, which are mystery books).
I tried to search Reddit for anyone discussing him or his works but came up with nothing. Has anyone else read his works or have any opinions they would like to share? I'm eager to talk about this book but I don't know where to go. I really want to read more of his work because I was so highly impressed with his writing style. He has fairly good rating on GoodReads from what I've seen and I am surprised he's not talked about more or at all on this sub.
Hey guys.. I am looking for recommendations of police procedural novels. I read a lot of Christie and I am looking for new detective novels. I prefer:
For example, I loved True detective S1 and Broadchurch. Looking for novels similar to these.
I have heard of Will Trent series by Karin Slaughter and Jonna Linna by Lars Kepler. If you've read these, please tell me the best place to start!
Thanks!
A hardened New Orleans cop, Dave Robicheaux, finally tosses in the badge and settles into life on the bayou with his wife. But a bizarre plane crash draws him back into the fray when his family is viciously threatened. - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116508/
Adapted from popular novelist James Lee Burke series featuring Vietnam vet, former police detective and recovering alcoholic Dave Robicheaux.
I don't know what drew my attention to this film, I think it must have been the involvement of Scott Frank who has one of the two credits for the screenplay adaptation.
This mystery thriller is an unconvincing mess. The book might be worth reading but as a movie I can't recommend this. First of all the actors cast in the major roles are unable to carry the film and they're not helped by it's ludicrous plot. Who thought casting Alec Baldwin as a Louisiana detective would be a good choice? Teri Hatcher perhaps was up and coming at this point in the nineties but she's miscast too. Many of the small roles in the film go to average actors but none with southern accents. This is movie totally dependent on it's setting in New Orleans and the surrounding bayou and almost no-one speaks with a convincing southern accent. Extraordinary decision.
The film opens with Robicheaux (Alec Baldwin) and his wife Annie (Kelly Lynch) out on their boat. A damaged plane falls out of the sky in front of them almost directly on top of them. The graphics/FX used are laughably bad. The couple dive down to see if there are survivors. They find dead bodies but one survivor, a young girl. With mouth to mouth resuscitation she lives.
They take the young girl to a convent so she can be cared for. The nuns ask Robicheaux and Annie a few questions and they implausibly pretend this is their own daughter despite not even being able to tell the nuns her name or her age. The nuns question them a bit more and then reveal the girl they brought in only speaks Spanish. The girl had been unconscious before this. It is beyond belief the nuns then give the child back to the couple who adopt her as their own child, she's called Alafair. No-one from law enforcement or a government agency is called at all.
I don't need hyper-realism in my thrillers but I want my movies to at least seem logical and real. These types of unrealistic plot developments occur throughout the movie.
We are soon introduced to Bubba Rocque (a trim looking Eric Roberts), drinking cockta
... keep reading on reddit β‘Love these two series, but am about to finish the final book in the Frank Clevenger series and am looking for another gritty main character.
Series I've read in the past are:
Travis McGee, Spencer (Robert B Parker), 87th Precinct, Kay Scarpetta, Kinsey Millhone, VI Warshawski, Alan Gregory, Alex Delaware, Alex Cross, Edward X Delany, Nero Wolfe, Dave Robicheaux, Jack Taylor (Ken Bruen), Lucas Davenport, Agent Pendergast (Preston & Child), Jefferson Bass's Body Farm novels, Myron Bolitar, JP Beaumont, Andrew Taylor's Roth Trilogy, Cliff Janeway (PLEASE WRITE MORE OF THESE), Dean Koontz's Odd Thomas series.
I've also read a sprinkling of Tony Hillerman, Mary Higgens Clark, Marcia Muller, Women's Murder Club, Martha Grimes, JD Robb, Robin Cook, JA Jance.
I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.
I truly enjoyed Frank Clevenger and how much he reminded me of Matthew Scudder.
Any suggestions for me? Winter is coming and I'd love to start a great new series!
PS: My girlfriend devours and loves the Louise Penny books. I've tried the first 4, but I just don't care for them. Thank you!
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

Heard they've been doing some shady business.

Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments

Nothing, he was gladiator.
Or would that be too forward thinking?
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
What did 0 say to 8 ?

When I got home, they were still there.
