Dan Houser has done an interview on a podcast (Bookish with Sonya Walger) this week. He talks about some of the inspo behind some GTA characters. Very cool.

I found this article on IGN.
Dan houser has reportedly started a new studio in the UK according to IGN. Pretty surprising and kind of disappointing to be honest as a GTA fan. Happy for him but I hope this series is in good hands, but something tells me the next GTA is going to lack that Rockstar no holds barred/no filter feelings. Without Leslie Benzies and now Dan Houser. I know thereβs massive hype for GTA 6, and Iβm certainly not over hyping it for myself but looking at what theyβve been doing with GTAO things have not been that good in my opinion, feels like the content they put out isnβt as rockstar as it should be, the whole cayo perico heist was really bad technically and gameplay wise. But whatβre your guys thoughts?
Yes it's easy to romanticize why Rockstar games being known as "Rockstar games" in our for frontal mind is a good thing. But now that Dan Houser left, and the Rockstar plane slowly crash into the ocean, there's little talk of nuance and outrage with the general gaming community, they don't know or give a shit who Dan Houser is, despite him writing and developing all of the games since their infancy.
Now you just have people referring to Rockstar Games as if it's still the same people or creators of the brand in itself. And this is also adding to the backlash against the developers since nobody even knows that Dan Houser left.
If he had created a following like Kojima did, he'd have more of a platform to argue against what Rockstar is doing. It sucks that this is basically the end of Rockstar, and Dan & Sam Houser will have to basically say "Oh I'm the guy who made GTA" to get any traction on his feature endeavors.
β¦ because these "Definitive" remasters are like pissing on someone's grave π
One thing that I always liked about art in general is how you can have different perspectives on the same subject, and that's what I think we'll see in GTA 6, if the game isn't written by Dan Houser or produced by Leslie Benzies, it will at least have some very professional personnel behind it, people seem to forget that these games were always written by Dan and somebody else
Imagine
Firstly, I have to say that these cobbled-together ideas are extremely presumptuous and most likely incorrect, but I'm interested to see if anyone else sees it too. Most notably, it presumes that Dan Houser had been planning to leave Rockstar for a long time, which may or may not be true.
The thing that initially got me thinking was the connection between the names of Leopold Strauss and Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two. In-game Strauss is a cold-hearted loan shark who only cares about the money, which raises an obvious parallel. Leopold Strauss also arrived in New York City from Austria, which happens to be the same city in which Zelnick made his name. I felt that these coincidences were a little too strong to be ignored, so I started thinking about the rest of the game and how Houser may have made other real-world parallels.
Let's now agree that Dan inserted himself, at least in part, as Arthur. Leopold Strauss is inadvertently responsible for Arthur's slow and inevitable death, after the debt collection run-in with Thomas Downes who had tuberculosis. This could mirror Houser's prolonged (internally, perhaps) departure from Rockstar, most likely in part because of the influence of Zelnick. We don't know what things were like behind-the-scenes, but let's say that the culture changed dramatically, became money-oriented rather than creativity-oriented, and Houser wanted out. Arthur's beautiful final shot is Houser's swansong.
This link seems somewhat tenuous, but then we have to consider the broader narrative too. Arthur and crew (that is, Houser and his team) are at the end of a golden age - the world is changing and there's just no place for guys like them anymore. It used to be a wild west out there (the old days, the old games) and now there are laws to obey. Take-Two are the rule-makers now. Leslie Benzies left in 2014 and was part of the heart and soul of Rockstar, taking some of the Rockstar North developers with him. A subtle connection can be made between the way in which Arthur and Dutch, at the game's beginning, lose critical members of the gang after a 'robbery gone wrong', which can be interpreted in an obvious way post-GTA V.
Also, the relationship between Arthur and Dutch can perhaps be paralleled to Dan and his brother Sam. Dutch is the mentor, as Sam likely was/is as the older brother. Dutch's betrayal of Arthur could be seen as Sam's betrayal of Dan - maybe he towed the company line and sided with the new corporate Rockstar. Dan was al
