A list of puns related to "Cy Young Award"
A QB has won the NFL MVP 17 out of the last 20 times it has been awarded. As it stands it's a 'QB of the year' award, not an MVP award. Having a "Tom Brady QB of the year award" in addition to MVP would let QBs get their hardware while opening up the MVP to all the other positions... making things a lot more interesting. This is one thing MLB gets right with the Cy Young and MVP awards.
Thoughts?

Max Scherzer

and now, the newest member, Robbie Ray!
2020: 6.62
2021: 2.84
He wasn't technically qualified in 2020 and the short season certainly contributed to the high ERA, but he was pretty freaking bad last season, a rarity for players who win the Cy Young award the next year.
Thought it was a fun stat.
Take that how you wish.
Ray on Mitch Haniger:
> βI love him as a person, and as a player, heβs a gamer,β Ray said of Haniger. βJust listening to him talk about the city and talk about the fans and the team, the group of guys in the clubhouse β¦ the camaraderie, the brotherhood. It just seemed right. It just seemed like a really good fit.β
Ray on the M's pitching staff:
> βThey sold me on everything that theyβre doing,β he said. βTheyβre really pushing to get better. Theyβre working hard to maximize every pitcher. I think that was the main thing for me β¦ that it wasnβt like a cookie-cutter thing. Itβs not one size fits all.β
Here are my picks:
NL: Jacob DeGrom
AL: Robby Ray

Thereβs a poll going on in r/Dodgers asking if Julio Urias should be considered the NL Cy Young front-runner because of his league leading 20 wins. While I donβt think he is the front runner (crazy that two other guys in that dugout have a better shot than him), I am curious what is everyoneβs favorite Cy Young snubs because of the win stat?
Mine is 2004, Roger Clemens over The Big Unit. Randy pitched 31 more innings, had more starts, 2 complete game shutouts to Clemensβ 0 complete games, 72 more strikeouts, 35 less walks, a WAR of 3 points higher, a better ERA and ERA+, the list goes on and on. But Clemens was 18-4 on a contending Astros team, compared the Randyβs 16-14 record on the Dβbacks.
In the past did sds give the winners award cards at the end of the year?
....is he gone? Will he demand an outrageous contract that Shatkins will balk at?
Despite missing time I think deGrom has a case.
Max Fried also making a run for it.
Advanced statistics are great for predicting future performance but not necessary for appraising past performances. Ultimately a baseball pitcher gets paid to do exaclty two things:
As such, the only numbers necessary for appraising pitchers' past performance are 1) Innings Pitched, and 2) Earned runs allowed. My method for Cy Young candidate appraisal simply calculated the quotient of total innings pitched (more is better) to earned run rate (less is better). Using this straightforward approach, the top finishers for the NL Cy Young award are:
JacobΒ deGrom 769
WalkerΒ Buehler 757
RangerΒ Suarez 702
ZackΒ Wheeler 690
MaxΒ Scherzer 656
BrandonΒ Woodruff 631
CorbinΒ Burnes 620
KevinΒ Gausman 614
RobbieΒ Ray 613
AdamΒ Wainwright 608
Now that the regular season is over, we are discussing end of the year awards and MVP is always a hot topic. I find it frustrating that once again, almost all the talk and hype is about quarterbacks. The last time a non QB won the MVP was in 2012 when Adrian Peterson nearly broke Dickerson's rushing record and carried the Vikings to the playoffs. In the last 20 years, only 3 MVP awards have ever been given to non QB's (a WR has never won MVP). It seems that unless another player can break a single season record, they won't even be in the discussion for MVP.
The position of quarterback is, in some ways, like pitchers in baseball; they have more control over the game than any other position and are involved in every play every time they are on the field. So naturally, they are going to be the most important position. As such, they should have their own award like the Cy Young award, because they do deserve recognition for their incredible talent and skill, but the current system overshadows other great players.
No more bad games the rest of the season, or is it already gone?
Thanks for the awards, kind strangers! ππ»
