I've been thinking a lot recently about how it would be great if a company bought the design rights to great classic vehicles, molded body parts in today's materials, and put them onto modern chassises and dropped in a hybrid or all electric motor. Am I missing something?

I know Ford is starting by releasing the motor stand-alone from the new mustang and they demo'd dropping it into a classic pickup.

Hello India, MG Motors is not a British company and their cars are not British

NB, I have nothing against Chinese companies, or 'made in China' goods. It just annoys me to no end watching those stupid disingenuous MG ads on TV where everyone (almost inevitably white) speaks with a pukka oxford english accent and sips tea with their pinkie finger outstretched. Before you buy an MG car, you should know that it is not a 'British' car but a Chinese one.

MG motors is a subsidiary of SAIC Motors, a state owned Chinese automaker. SAIC bought the MG brand when MG went belly up in 2005. Most of the cars sold by MG in India are straight up rebadged Chinese SAIC cars, designed & manufactured by SAIC in China, with some assembly in India. Even the british flags in all the MG showrooms were manufactured in China.

The MG Hector is the Baojun 530

The MG Gloster is the Maxus D90

The MG Astor and ZS EV are actual 'MG' cars, in that they are sold under the MG brand in China as well, but that is the extent of their britishness. They were still made in China by a Chinese company.

SAIC seems to make decent quality, feature packed cars at good price points. They need to stop lying about the origins of those cars & just sell them as is.
