A list of puns related to "Cultural Analysis"
β‘hello everyone!β‘ i hope you all are having a good day binge reading all the 30 episodes! I'm making this post as a cultural analysis of KCD. First I would like to express my happiness at the fact that RC made a story based on India, this has been on my wishlist for a while and I'm very joyful that it came true. it's difficult to portray our Indian culture and I'm glad that RC is doing this! thankyou to my friends u/psychological_mix959,
u/charming-dragonfly87 and u/Charming-Influence28 who discussed the updates with me and helped me make this post! Warning- I don't speak for all the other Indians on this sub, they are allowed to have their own opinions and please don't attack anyone for it. Also I'm not making this post to discourage the writer or the team, this story has great potential and I know that portraying different cultures is difficult so the effort is very much appreciated! Happy reading! (ββ’α΄β’β)β§*γ
Customisation
One of my biggest problems with this story is the customisation options.

As you can there are 4 skin tone options. Kashmiri type, North Indian type, Dravidian type and Khasi type. I know the MC is a biracial person but that doesn't mean she can't be dark skinned. 2 tone options are light and the other 2 are medium. RC should have added atleast one dark skin tone option. Most of the eye colours are also very rare, the Kashmiri type is the one that represented me the most as a South Indian. The features are quite euro centric.
Portrayal of personality
Probably one of my least favorite part of the story is this aspect. The story give us 2 paths independence and loyalty, both the paths honestly feel like stereotypes of women. The independent path's MC is portrayed as prideful (I'll adress this later), selfish and stubborn. While the loyal path MC is a floormat and an asskisser. I'll link the official discription of both- https://imgur.com/a/TKgCb29
I'm really annoyed and upset at this. An independent person can be empathetic and kind, they don't have to cold and selfish. It feels like s stereotype of the "bossy" independent woman. The loyal MC's discription is worded better- more compassionate and warm! In the 1st episode when you meet Mr. Rose he makes a unkind joke regarding your ethnicity, if you don't laugh at it and ignore it's followed by the prompt you prioritise you dignity over your relationship with the team- https://imgur.com/a/jM7Umoa you also get an independence point.

Growing up in the 80s, I didnβt see many male Asian faces on TV playing positive roles outside of Bruce Lee (who was dead already). Instead, Iβd get my fix of Asian representation through the old VHS tapes my parents brought from Hong Kong.
Tony Leung was, and remains, one of the most iconic actors from East Asia. So Shang-Chi hit another level for me -- here was Tony working his magic in the MCU. He is one of the few male actors who is NOT being imported for his martial arts (e.g. Jet Li, Donnie Yen), the Asian fool (sorry Ken Jeong), or a dirty Fu Man Chu (yes, you CAN argue whether he was one in this film but I would be on the no side).
But what struck me was that the film exceeded my expectations for its cultural authenticity and accuracy on a lot of things Chinese. In fact, the very heart and soul of the movie, or the Tao, was deeply Chinese.
I started reflecting on it, and decided to make a YouTube video where I conducted a pretty thorough analysis of all the cultural elements. I don't talk much about how it's connected with the rest of the MCU. Check it out if it is something you're interested in.
Hi I'm looking for recommendations for books with a lot of cultural analysis or setting in cities or places.
I'm not sure how to put it exactly but I learnt a lot about the New York scene and Singapore/southeast Asian scene from You and Crazy Rich Asians respectively.
I want something immersive like that. Any recommendations?
I'm aware that there is genealogical research that utilizes mtDNA, autosomal and Y-chromosomal DNA. But which one of these would be ideal for understanding the ethnic admixture of people and their origins? I'm aware that with mtDNA and Y-chromosome, you can detect an individual's haplogroups, but wouldn't that be a poor indicator in the overall ancestry of an individual?
Thanks
I see a Millennial mindset dominant era as happening between late 1998 to mid 2012. Millennial culture still exists today, although it is not as dominant as Gen Z culture is.
The period between mid 2012 to mid 2017 I think was the Zillennial cultural era, the bridge gap between Millennials and Gen Z for these reasons. It's not meant to be super comprehensive, but I'll try to add as much to the list as possible. The youngest Millennials and oldest Zoomers generally make up this era.
mid-late 2012 (heavily Millennial, Zillennial culture is born with the swag era and rise of EDM trap)
