A list of puns related to "Ctrl Break"
I just discovered this, thought it was cool and then decided to post this tip.
On Windows ping:
-t Ping the specified host until stopped.
To see statistics and continue - type Control-Break;
To stop - type Control-C.
Whenever I paste something to a post, like a link or an emoji, reddit just breaks. The reddit I was on just gets greyed out in the background and the post I'm making becomes bugged. It removes part of the message I was typing and doesn't detect half of the remaining message. So have to go to markdown mode and re-type what was deleted and to be able to properly view the remaining words.
This is on Firefox. What might be the issue?
I find thereβs always one person in my lab groups that just spams they enter button to start a new page. Then someone makes an edit before that and I have to go in and fix it. Itβs minor but a pet peeve of mine.
Chances are this is 99% some weird combination of add-ons and browser and add-on settings that no-one else has, but just in case β¦ I donβt have that many add-ons, and it seems almost certainly that this is a bad interaction somewhere between Waterfox and Tab Mix Plus.
Does anyone ever find that pressing Ctrl+T sometimes adds the new Tab at the end of the tab bar, instead of next to the active tab? (In Tab Mix Plus, I have Tab Mix Plus Options β Events β New Tabs β Open New Tab next to current one selected.)
This is Waterfox 2012.02 (64-bit), Windows 10.
Pressing the New Tab button seems unaffected, but each press of Ctrl+T adds the new tab in the wrong place. These tabs that open in the wrong place are always dead: they cannot be focused or closed. If they are left there long enough, when you next restart Waterfox, most of your windows are lost from the session. Usually if you restart Waterfox the instant you see this happen, the session is unharmed (these tabs do not come back, as they βofficiallyβ donβt exist) but today this bug is plaguing me and every time it happens, and I restart Waterfox, every window except my first one is lost from the session.
Since File History in Windows 10 has not supported backing up Application Data for several yearsΒΉ (some new Windows 10 version caused doing that to break File History completely) I have a separate scheduled task that makes frequent backups of sessionstore.json, both on a recurring schedule and every time I unlock my PC. I have made good use of this today to keep restoring my session back to a point where all my windows still worked. (I am not sure that they are lost from sessionstore.json; there is no significant change in file size, so it may be that the session state is corrupted and unreadable following a restart of the browser.)
ΒΉ This provision was initiated to deal with another problem, in Firefox 56 and earlier, where the session state would get corrupted and come back with only some of my windows. Waterfox no longer has that bug, but it replaced it with the New Tab bug.
This bug is kind of like as though βOpen New Tab next to current oneβ is trying to place the new tab next to some deleted tab and gets confused and breaks the entire session state. (I am using the inbuilt session saving, not Tab Mix Plusβs, because the transition from the former to the latter loses my list of open tabs, and itβs a reasonable amount of tabs!)
Possibly using TMPβs multi-row tabs is a cause β hard to sa

Saves a lot of time rather than clicking where you want to put your cursor or holding down the arrow key.
You can also use Shift + Ctrl + arrow key to highlight words and blocks of text in this manner.
Issue started a few days ago and it;s infuriating. Any program where I used ctrl+v whether its firefox, discord, or even file explorer it cause that program to not respond and I have to use task manager to force close it and then relaunch. I've never heard of this issue before and those 2 keys work normally when not used together. Nothing I've downloaded could have caused this and nothing new or sus is running in the background.
Windows 10. Up to date.
Hi, I am trying to use a remove desktop season inside of a Hyper-V Windows VM. To get the remote desktop season to enter full screen I need to send the keyboard sequence "Ctrl+Alt+Break". But as those same keys are used to toggle fullscreen for the VM I am unable to send them to the remote desktop.
All of the computers are running windows 10.
Any advice on how to send theses sequence to the remote desktop season would be appreciated.
Thanks
Im confused as we do not specify anything about the type of target while editing the GRUB file . Please help out
Hello /r/mechanicalkeyboards,
I finally received my CTRL from Drop (it was Massdrop when I ordered it at least) this week. I had chosen to get the Halo Clears so it was as close to Cherry MX Clears as possible to minimize the effect of the transition.
I have had a WASD CODE V2 with Cherry MX Clears for a long time now, maybe 2 years. The thing is, now that I'm using the CTRL, the Halo switches feel like they require far greater force than the Cherry switches on my WASD. I'm using (mostly) stock caps on the CODE and I haven't replaced the caps on the CTRL yet.
I'm wondering if that's due to the fresh-from-the-box age of the Halos or if there really is something significantly different between the Halo and Cherry clears. Any help is appreciated!
Title says it all. I haven't been able to find a way to send a Ctrl-Break key sequence successfully via my Surface Book 1. Weird thing is, when I tried to send a 'Break' signal via a terminal program (SecureCRT, Putty), it doesn't work either.
Any ideas folks?
Thanks.
Hello anyone who is taking the time to help me here,
Before the most recent update if I wanted to select a group of cells to border them or w/e and there were overlapping sections it would work fine. So here are the steps I usually take
Select a group 1
ctrl-click a new cell to start the sub-group within group 1
Shift-Drag the second sub-group within group 1
But now this doesn't work at all, the cells either break or the borders don't happen at all. This is a small annoyance but I don't see any real reason why this was changed it certainly doesn't make anything faster or better.
My laptop lacks a Scroll Lock key and Break key. But I need to send CTRL-Break to a powershell window. Is this possible in Windows 10?
This is really a question for Java programmers. I need a thread dump on a JVM that is 'stuck' running in a Powershell because some of the threads are either deadlocked or they were not shut down properly. My laptop has no Scroll Lock key and no Break Key on it.
(there is a rumor on the street that I can send a QUIT
signal to the JVM running as a "Service" in Windows 10. If anyone knows that sorcery, speak up now or forever hold your peace.)
Your thoughts?
I do Java development on Windows and use git-bash pretty much exclusively for my shell on Windows.
In a previous update, git-bash changed such that to 'break' out of gradle (eg during bootRun) I had to CTRL+break - in earlier versions CTRL+c would suffice.
Now, with 2.18.0.windows.1
(64-bit), neither CTRL+c or CTRL+break work (I have to kill the process - in my case, via procexp - to get control back in the shell).
It seems that the team was somewhat aware of CTRL+c handling issues, however they seem to be under the impression this is better. I guess none of them are doing Java development (and maybe even limited to gradle workflows).
Is anyone else finding issues with the later Git for Windows releases when using git-bash?
I put my Oculus away for a week or so at a time. During this time, I don't really need the applications running and feeding facebook every bit of audio from my home. I unplug the HMD, and use task manager to kill the applications.
This seems to require me reinstalling the whole thing again.
Is there a way to kill all of the services and apps and just have it restart like a normal program next time?
I hate that the backgroud stuff keeps running even with the HMD unplugged and the home application off.
Just thought I should share seeing as so many developers where I work (myself included) had no idea about it. And it's a real time saver (at least with how long some of our projects take to publish).
Also, finally figured out what the "break" key was good for!
I think that needs to be added. For example, when you're on a creative server and you want to dig a really big hole, you need to break each block with half a second between each block-breaking. With this simple addition, just press Ctrl and break block to destroy them like in survival with efficiency 5! Isn't it cool?
For instance, if I click on a Stone block, it puts my pickaxe i my hand, so I can mine it. This makes the hotbar less cluttered and allows for more building blocks on your hotbar at one time, because you don't have to use 1/2 of your hotbar just for tools, torches and food.
I know it is possible to do this, but can you prevent these key combinations from working, and when/if they are pressed, is it possible to display a message to the user telling them that these key combinations cannot be used to close the program.
My keyboard is essentially non+functional because of the input lag right now and I read that it could be cause by CTRL+Break Listening. I see it nowhere in iCue. Anyone know where I can find it?
I'm trying to copy over tags from one video to another for a playthrough but it seems like ctrl a isn't working anymore. Is it working for anyone or does anyone have a different workaround?
