A list of puns related to "Crime Investigation Department"
I really love the physical evidence aspect of crime scene investigation. Curious what roles are offered in police departments related to crime scenes
This idea comes from Jilly Loevy's book Ghettoside. The essence of it is that black communities are simultaneously overpoliced and underpoliced. Overpoliced in the sense that they're heavily targeted for drug crime enforcement and other 'proactive policing' methods, leading them to represent a far higher share of the prison population. Underpoliced in that black murder victimization rates are far higher than any other group (even when controlling for income level), but the rate at which those murders are solved is also far lower than other groups.
This gives the perception among Black communities that police are more interested in controlling them than protecting them, killing trust between the community and the police. This, overall, has resulted in black communities benefitting far less from the State Monopoly on Violence than others, which perpetuates their disproportionate murder rate.
The solution, then, is to de-prioritize drug and other lower level crime enforcement in favor of pumping more resources into solving homicides. What are your thoughts on this idea? Do you think it has merit? Has it already been pursued in parts of the country and, if so, what was the result?
EDIT: used a double negative.
I get that itβs their jurisdiction but overall makes no sense to me.
Not new news as I saw it posted yesterday. However, I was thinking last night how quickly they decided to close the doors or come out and say they are withdrawing from short-selling activities AFTER the DOJ has announced they are investigating.
Oh boy, you have to wonder how many shares are floating around that they just created hoping to magically make them vanish via bankruptcy.
