This week we turn our attentions to Maryland, where there is a special election in the second largest county. Though Maryland is a blue state at the federal level, if we lay the groundwork now, we can flip the governor’s mansion!

I lost my dad Halloween weekend to a breakthrough case of covid, he was fully vaccinated but had non alcoholic liver failure and lasted a decade through 5 year survival rates. WNY is a very conservative area, we lost 45 out of 100 nursing home residents to covid before I quit. I’ve been a loud voice in my area and job for vaccines, but since my dad died from a breakthrough case with a fully vaccinated family no one takes me seriously anymore and people are using my situation as an example of how “useless” the vaccine is. I think I’m clouded by grief but I’m having a hard time feeling credible about the vaccine since then. My dad was a father, brother, grandfather and friend to many, we miss him and he was so proud of being vaccinated, I’m gutted that his demise is feeding into disinformation about a vaccine he got and was fully supportive and proud of getting. Are there studies or anything I can share or are they beyond that? ETA we just got our 5 YO vaccinated and are planning for our boosters (spouse is a CNA so we’re coming up on a year since our first doses because we didn’t hesitate, school break is approaching though and each shot has knocked my ((A- ass out If that’s still a thing))
Isn’t this type of government overreach the same as Biden’s OSHA mandate? In both cases the government is telling private entities what to do ? Disney just announced they will be going against Desantis and requiring vaccines for their cruises.
Succinctly: are you equally against conservative politicians mandating that private businesses are not allowed to ask for proof of vaccination as much as you may be against Biden’s mandate?
Bonus question: why do my conservative friends blame Biden for the increased gas prices ? What actions did he take besides cancelling a unfinished pipeline? I figured gas prices as well as all current inflation is moreso due to international supply chain issues that are beyond the control of an American President.
Note: just a preface that my questions are genuine and I ask in good faith. I just want to understand how the conservatives in my life think so I can better relate to them.
