January 2017 right? Alright. Stay with me for this y'all, I know we've been through a lot together at this point but when I tell you 2017 ends up being one of the messiest years yet... Last year I wrote a celebratory summary of GFRIEND’s amazing 2020 for /r/kpopthoughts , and I thought maybe I’d give it a go again, with doing a spotlight update on their year. Obviously, this will be a very different kind of year end reflection, with everything that went down in 2021. It's been a rollercoaster. But even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise. The latter half of the year was packed with excitement and positivity. And I hope you can see this post not as a summary of the death of GFRIEND, but as one celebrating OT6’s rebirth. I hope some fans, new or old, can find some use in this compilation, as it's been harder to keep up with everything this year. I’ll try to limit what to include, and I’m sure I’ll miss some stuff, but be warned! It will be long!

January - April: Before the storm

We were all still riding high on last year's trilogy, and didn't expect much for a while. God knows they deserved some rest. But we did get something, straight away. The year started with OSTs! Early in January, The Nolans became aware of Yuju’s remake of I’m In The Mood For Dancing, which she released the month before. And they really leaned into it! Not only was it another OST hit for her in Korea, but with The Nolans being so excited over it, it got some western attention. I never would have expected Yuju’s name to be mentioned on Loose Women, for example. They even offered a collaboration, which could be a lot of fun. Come the end of January, we got some new OSTs. SinB released Lovable for drama A Love So Beautiful. Yuju released her OST Falling, for Run On. And Eunha released Pit-A-Pat for She Would Never Know. As well as Buddy! I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Carrie stays in Paris with Petrovsky and is happily ever after in a very unexpected way. When Alexander is unable to give her the attention and love she seeks Carrie finally realizes that she will never find it in a man. She couldn’t find it in Big, she couldn’t find it in Aiden or Berger... She writes “I couldn’t help but wonder... will I finally find love with Alexander?”

The answer was both yes and no.

Carrie doesn’t miss her meet and greet. Instead, she goes to a Prada boutique for something to wear. She purchases her own outfit in debit, not credit. She goes to the meet and greet feeling a bit lonely without Alexander and her friends. Carrie finally realizes that only she can give herself all the love she’s been longing for. The meet and greet goes amazing. She makes a lot of artsy friends that completely adore her and they even throw her an after party at a nearby restaurant. A few days after the meet and greet, Carrie is invited by one of her new Parisian friends to a photography class, she didn’t really want to go but she had a lot of free time. After the class, she buys a Polaroid and takes up a new hobby of taking cute Paris aesthetic Polaroids. Shots in cafés of a latte and next to a Chanel purse. Close up of her champagne and Gucci jacket at a museum. Eating a pastry in front of a statue while wearing her favorite silk scarf. Close up of her sipping a cosmopolitan showing off her Dior bracelets. You get the vibe.

After a few months she has many of these Polaroids laying around and she begins to write poems inspired by each Polaroid. The poems are about Carrie finding self-love in Paris. She writes a poem named “U & I nothing” inspired by her distaste of straight espresso and also as closure from Big. She also writes “no scrunchies please” inspired by Berger and scrunchies causing her hair to frizz. “Love me more”, “I believe in parties” inspired by Samantha. “Out there”, “where is he” inspired by Charlotte. “If she falls over”, “something besides men”, “Fiery” inspired by Miranda.

Alexander is thrilled with Carrie’s new found interest and encourages her to make a book of her prints. She names her book Polaroids in Paris. Alexander casually invites Carrie out for dinner and it’s a surprise launch party with their Parisian friends and the girls. Even though the poems are not well written, its a hit.

I am writing my story as one of the members requested me to share. It has nothing to do with AM, but rather with the experience of being married and divorced.

I was 22 when I fell madly in love with my ex. I am from a Tamil Brahmin background, and he was Telugu, not Brahmin. My mother of course was not thrilled when we started talking about marriage 6 months into the relationship. He was approaching 30 and his parents were pressuring him to marry. They had no expectations and were fairly modern for 2007. They just had one wish, he should marry before he turns 30. My birth family was crazy, broke and I was never the priority. I did not ask them for permission but merely invited them. His mother bought all the gold that she wanted (or it would be embarrassing for her in front of her family) and paid for the wedding. I also paid for everything that I could muster.

And so we did in February 2008, 6 months before he turned 30, and just after I turned 23. We agreed that we did not want children. We agreed we did not want to be in a typical marriage, and we wanted to have the freedom to pursue passions in life. A year after my wedding, I went to the UK to do my postgraduation, while he lived in India. After I graduated, I got a job at an EU firm. They allowed me to work from home, and only had to be onsite for 3 months a year. I was happy with the arrangement.

As time went by, we became friends rather than being a couple. Sex life dwindled completely. Routines became boring. For instance, he liked to eat peanut chutney in the morning, and in any average month, I made more times peanut chutney than I had sex in the seven years of marriage. When I brought it up, he said he couldn't care to subscribe to lifestyle as dictated by magazines like Cosmopolitan. I wondered what it would be like to have a child, but that conversation could go nowhere. I had to be happy with my career as it was and couldn't think of a change or growing as he wouldn't relocate. Life was getting boring.

When I travelled to the EU or in the company of my colleagues in India, I got a lot of attention from the opposite gender. But at home, I was a mere 'Mami'. I felt that a decision I made before my brain was fully formed (the brain is fully formed at 25) was not good enough to hold me accountable for the rest of my life. I felt that a life sentence for murder started at 15 years, and with good behaviour, one could get out but this marriage seemed like an eternity. I was only 29 then. This l

I have never visited either city and was wondering which city you would recommend for a short 2-3 day weekend trip?

Just by looking at google images Dublin does look to be a little “prettier” and also busier/more cosmopolitan, but I do have a particular interest in recent history / The Troubles so I guess Belfast would be better for this.

Other than this I’m specifically looking for a city that has interesting things to do, good food/drinks/bars, good nightlife and some hustle & bustle and atmosphere.

“You won't though.” Claire said casually. “If you really wanted to quit you already would have. You don't have the patience to stick with something you completely hate.”

“I'm not saying you don't.” Claire sat down and gave him a critical look. “But something's keeping you there. Something about it works for you or you would have dropped it after the table read. Or now, at the very latest.”
