A list of puns related to "Corporate Flight Management"
Fuck you
Currently debating moving out of a buy-side research analyst role to a quasi-corporate finance role and trying to decide if it's a bad move.
The new role would have an element of corporate development (analysis of potential acquisitions/divestures), treasury (analysis of capital structure/management decisions), as well as a few other functions. I feel like it's a really well-rounded corporate finance role that would give me a lot of good exposure.
I'm worried about two things though 1) how big the likely pay cut I'd be taking moving into such a role would be and 2) inability to get back into investment management if I wanted to go back
Anyone have any sense what a role like this with 3+ years of experience would pay? And does anyone have any sense of how difficult it would be to go back if I so chose?
Look I understand the delays cancellations and all kinds of havoc that happened in the bad weather, and I understand the same thing right now with everyone getting omicron. I do not fault the ground working employee's I do not fault the pilots I do not fault the agents or the customer service reps who have busted their asses to help everyone and God bless them for that they deserve bonuses for what they've had to deal with..
But during all the commotion, Alaska has failed to communicate with people about anything. Now we all know they're going to cancel 10% of flights for the rest of January but they aren't going to update their flight database to reflect this until this weekend (probably sunday at 11:59pm)... so at the moment, there are already 10% of flights that have been cancelled that are STILL available to book. And if you book the flight that was already cancelled, you're just going to get a dumb voucher. This is just the cherry on top of the awful job corporate has done during this mess. If I didn't know any better I would think they were intentionally trying to destroy their image and devalue their company so that American can just absorb them at a lower cost...
The local news is reporting this stuff, Alaska has NOTHING on their front page. Nothing. This is as Alaska is running the "winter sale book now!" promotion on the front page. The alaska simps on this reddit need not reply to this post, go post in that PR funded thread about which pre order food is best.
If people here really truly care about Alaska like they say they do, they would tell Alaska that they were fucking up. Alaska needs to hear from it's most loyal customers that they are fucking up. If you do not hold peoples feet to the fire when they're making a big mess of things, they will not change their behavior. Criticism is healthy and necessary especially now. I like Alaska, I don't want to see them lose business and have to cut routes have to lay off staff and slowly lose the hard-earned and well deserved image that they built up over so many years.
Corporate if you read this do better. You owe it to your customers, or you will lose them. And boy will that be a bad day when the market takes notice and someone puts out a overvalued recommendation on you.
Not sure if AMAs are allowed on here but yeah.
Waiting to board my 6th flight this week, got delayed, AMA regarding whatever.
Edit: this blew up! Thanks a lot redditors! Please feel free to ask me anything, would be happy to be of help whenever I can.
And btw I did manage to get home and sleep a bit finally.
Ive worked at multiple stores and Ive always found it weird that 5-10 district people with dress shoes and tucked in shirts would come in and make a big show of bringing in carts. Is this supposed to make us think they are one of us? During a walk on a slow day the lot guys told me that they were specifically told by management to make sure at least one cart coral near the front entrance was full of carts for this reason
First off, I was lied to, I was told this was a remote job and itβs not. Maybe I was NaΓ―ve in thinking this but I genuinely believed I could be the good guy in this position. I wanted to be someone that looks out for our employees. Itβs contracted security work in the Denver area so theyβre often not treated well, over worked and taken advantage of. I thought I could try to mitigate that in my position but I was wrong. Something happened last week that compromised my moral compass and I need out. We are contracted for a state run mental health service. I had an excellent site lead who really was loved by staff and patient alike. He had recently gotten clean from alcohol abuse so he could really sympathize with the people we serve and it was obvious in his work ethic. Last week he had a mental health event at work. He did everything he was supposed to do, he knew he wasnβt in the right state of mind so he called his relief, who came in early for him, he left, he took the next day off (I donated my own PTO so he wouldnβt miss hours) and he went and saw someone. He called me the next morning and said he was feeling much better and he was ready to get back to work. The client, the so called mental health providers, told me they wouldnβt let him return until he got a mental and physical evaluation saying that he was fit to return to work. He spent money to see a doctor that day and got what they asked for. Then they asked him to release his medical record, he refused as he shouldβve and they forced me to let him go. It was the most mortally compromising thing Iβve ever had to do in my professional career and I donβt know what to do. I canβt stand these people anymore. I have to come in every day and place nice with these monsters. I have been putting in applications every single day all day but all my experience is in security management and Iβm not going to do it anymore. Anyone got advice? Iβm currently in school to be a machinist so if anyone knows any entry level positions in the Denver area please let me know. I hate this job so much I find it difficult to eat at work. I donβt know who else to talk to. Thanks for letting me vent.
Iβve struggled for more than 15 years now trying to work my way up in the Corporate world. Every stepping stone along the way I learned that you have to βeaseβ your way into making efficiencies before pulling the plug.
Literally just 2 years ago, after waiting a year to make my move, I tossed the old Rolodexes of managers before me. I also recycled a pocket-sized thesaurus, rubber-band stacks business cards, phonebooks and tons of 20+ year old useless reference manuals. Then I cleared the common office area of all the similar redundancies. (No one noticed.)
I proceeded to our excel budget files, originally created in 1996, and entered a very basic excel function that would automatically update all 50+ sheets at once with the new roll-over years. Instead of manually entering the new budget years on 50+ sheets it could be done with one single entry. You guessed correct - staff were mind blown!
You get the picture and this was only the start of my βwelcome to the 21st Centuryβ rampage around the office. Now Iβm dealing with more βsophisticatedβ things like why do we track everyoneβs attendance on 4 separate platforms, including calendars, Excel files, Timesheets and finally in to the database!! Donβt even ask me about the requirement to reconcile each platform every quarter/year.
Iβve been fighting this for so long and suddenly theyβre listening. This change isnβt going to take away anyoneβs job, in fact staff are complaining about the redundancies.
Thereβs a turning point happening, but why did it take so long and what prompted it? Iβve since moved on to other thoughts about pay inequalities, globalization and the risks to the climate, government/corporate conflict of interests and the old age dilemma of determining the best style of government. Something isnβt working at the very core and I canβt place my finger on it. In the meantime Iβm starting to think we were never meant to live in high urban centres where weβre so independent that it only drives the economy at the risk of our well-being.
Now moving on to more important efficiencies...
Recently several employees at a small business I work at left the job because of some ongoing mistreatment. I decided to stay since I thought I would do just about anything to avoid going back to customer service. I even got a raise out of the ordeal and felt great!
Yesterday though, I was told that I have to start clocking out for "Even long restroom breaks." Also found out all the new hires are getting paid the same rate I initially asked for and was told she couldn't afford.
Sure let's just treat the one person who stayed to help you through a crisis like shit and violate some federal labor laws while we're at it.
As background, I work for one of many HVAC divisions of a very large global company. I've been with said company since 2017, and have worked my way up through three different positions, each with a significantly higher pay grade than the one before. Last September, I presented my case for a raise, and was given an additional $10k yearly, and my performance review last October has me seeing a fairly standard 3.4% merit increase.
Just within the last week, it was surprisingly announced that our division was going to be restructured, and myself along with another colleague would no longer be a part of the sales and marketing team for our particular brand. We also lost our associate director of engineering, our IT lead, an IT project manager, and the VP/GM of our entire product branch all to sudden resignations.
All of this seems to be completely out of left field, and what has me worried is that my new boss is aligned with a completely different branch of the company. There seems to be a lot of higher-tier movements being made without much being disclosed to people like me.
I've always felt relatively secure in my position, as no one else in my branch has the skills to do what I do. I provide technical content, create technical IOMs and sales/markting literature, maintain two websites with product information and technical drawings, formulate animated drawings from CAD/STEP files, create product renderings, and also provide post-sales troubleshooting support for multiple reps that sell our products.
I've always admired my current boss, as he gives me the freedom to work unsupervised, to be creative, and to contribute to several major projects in an innovative way. Has anyone out there experienced a similar situation? On the one hand, I'm hoping they've reviewed my contributions and decided to align me with a new group of colleagues that currently perform similar functions for other product brands. On the other hand, part of me can't help but feel I'm being extricated from the product management group, as I am technically not a product manager, but I provide support in all facets for individual product managers.
At this point in my career, and in my age (47) I'm kind of curious to see where the chips fall. I'm old enough to be slightly concerned about the newly-redirected path my career might be going down, but also old enough to maybe see this as a motivational shove to start seeking something higher up within the same company, or somewhere else. Any adv

Even more important = 3 major health issues due to 'being an entreprenuer'. Ive made every mistake in the book and Ive paid for it. Made a million in some years and lost a million some years as well.
Switched from corporate to entrepreneur and havent looked back though. Have trained/transitioned roughly 15 from staff to management.
I notice on this sub there is usually more psychological questions rather than technical. If anybody is struggling, ask me anything!
TL DR army officer, 15 years, moved into corporate, hating my job at Procter and gamble. Just started last year and big corporate is so much worse than I ever thought possible. Horrible gaslighting by management. Going to quit and be a substitute teacher. Looking forward to doing what I need to for my reports and nothing else. Then just wait for the perfect I quit moment. I work in fast food, nothing fancy or highly skilled. But, just like privately owned restaurants and business we've experienced an incredible shortage of labour. The caveat here is that we are the top performing store in the entire franchise and have been since covid started. This is because of an influx of tourists no long "touring" and instead moving in. Most people don't even know our chain exists since it's so concentrate in my region. So we have had an incredible influx of customers over the last two years. It was ok at first, our company began shuffling out small but appreciated "rewards", it at the very least showed they were paying attention. But as time has gone on we've lost over 75% of our staff. We have a 6 station kitchen being ran by 3 people at a time of varying skill and drive. We got a raise about 8 months ago bumping us to 12.50/hour. This was great at the time, but since everything has changed so quickly with inflation that guy's haven't been leaving for dumb reasons anymore but because the stores across the street pay better. This has also meant that new hires are few and far between, either being kids who can only work 2 days a week or felons, most of which have been s*x offenders, racked with a history of assault, or thefts. Each, the ones with true potential have been finding better jobs with better pay because corporate has refused to raise us, their top performing store mind you had been paying the least for almost 8 months. How do I know? Because I've traveled around nearby states and found other stores advertising upwards of 5 dollars more than us. About 4 months ago we got an announcement that we were getting bumped again up 4 dollars minimum. We were burnt out and I specifically was looking to leave myself. 4 months go by and still no raise in sight for nearly anyone. A new girl starts working, by this point we're all tense, annoyed, and burnt out. This new girl calls corporate and demands the pay that was advertised, she won. A girl who's been here a week getting paid more than me and my guy's who are all precovid+ with the oldest guy here being here near 10 years! Safe to say I snapped when I found out, I demanded all our raised get put in immediately with an additional 1.50 and back pay for all the money we've missed or I'd quit. For reference my GM and district manager, as well as all the under management have refused to let me and another guy quit before. Me moreso than him as they describe me being "the best of both Mark

I would really appreciate to know your opinion on this course if you had, especially if it was interesting, in terms of added value and last but not least how much demanding it was.
