For those that may not remember, Seattle only implemented the 7 districts, 2 at-large system in 2015. Prior to that, they were all at-large seats.
Maybe I'm too much of a "dreamer" or "ideologue", but the purpose of having DISTRICT specific electors was so that we have them build a vision, or goal for the future that they want to be able to accomplish during their time in office.
In this story, aren't we essentially finding out that Andrew Lewis has absolutely no care in the world about the downtown corridor? I mean, yes, obviously... he doesn't. But were reaching a point of neglect here.
He's one, asking for the mayor to deal with the "future" of this problem. When we already know she's not going to be here next year. Secondly, he's putting it on SPD. He was up on Capitol Hill and the weeks after talking shit about how SPD wasn't fit to perform their duties in the way they were and needs to be toned back.
I'm really pissed on this one. There are SO many businesses on this exact block that have been asking for help. There are many homeless that just need a little bit of outreach. To top it off, Andrew Lewis is the Vice-Chair of the Community Economic Development Committee, (with Morales as Chair; so we know how this will go...). Shouldn't someone with such a title have a PLAN FOR THE FUTURE OF THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT of their district? Especially since google maps confirms this exact block in the video this woman needed to get by in her wheelchair is literally 2 blocks (https://imgur.com/a/dmMXTtd) from City Hall.
This guy is a ladder climber and should NOT be given a near chance in hell for a 2nd term unless we see him out of his suits and actually doing work downtown that doesn't require sitting, being on computer, or phone.

Obviously this won't solve the problem, but it's good to see a bipartisan pushback against NIMBYism.
Edit: The bill actually requires communities to report on what they're doing to reduce NIMBY regulations, not on the regulations themselves. See my comment below for more details.
