A list of puns related to "Colle System"
I've been trying to learn a Little more about the Colle System, how does it work and what are it's strengths and weaknesses... However, and surely this is because I'm not well used to it yet, everytime I try to use it I feel like I'm using a London System, but worse... Maybe the strategy is much more different than what I imagine... So can you help me guys? What are the biggest differences and changes in tactical planing from the London to the Colle, what are things to avoid in everyone and what are the main lines to keep in mind in both systems? Thank you
So looking at the Engine and the Openings library on chess.com I'm getting the impression that against the Colle system black 3.c5 seems to be a better try than 3.e6, but all the videos and lectures I've found on the Colle systems cover mostly the early e6 lines for black. The engines, both Leela and stockfish12 also seem to like kingside fianchettos more often than human the database does. What is the "mainline" for black against the Colle? e6 or c5?
I'm thinking of trying the Colle System and with the practice I've had it's a pretty fun opening. I understand the general gameplan of the Colle System (pushing e4), although other than that I'm wondering if there's anything else to know.
so recently while playing chess online I stumbled upon the "colle system". It was introduced/created in 1920's by Belgian Edgard Colle. George Koltanowski said that while modest it offers "solid development". however I've read that it can be very inflexible and that it's good for beginners, but that masters seldom use it. Those of you, redditors, who are familiar with this system what is your opinion of it ?
P.S. I won some games with it.
What's your approach against white's e3-d4-c3 (and related) systems? What pawn structure do you aim for--for example do you play d5 and clamp down on e4 or do you play d6 and try to break later? Where do you deploy your pieces and what are your long-term strategic goals (esp when white blitzes out his first 10 system moves irrespective of your response)?
I'm normally a Gruenfeld (or Benoni) player against d4 and, despite trying various approaches, can't quite find anything I particularly enjoy playing against white's unambitious system openings.
When I play tournament OTB games I typically struggle in the opening (especially with white) but outplaying my opponents in the endgame/late middle game. That's been my pattern for a while now, and so I picked up the Colle-Koltanowski for white (I tried the London for a while. but it wasn't working out for me). It's worked pretty great most of the time: I have clear plans for attack, and even if I don't carry them out, I don't have any major weaknesses in my position so I play a lot of endgames.
However, against an early g6, early f5, or early Bf5 threatening to trade off the light squared bishops, black takes the wind out of my sails, and I struggle to find plans. I typically play for the thematic Colle plans of Ne5 and f4, or the e4 pawn break, or playing for checkmate on h7 (with or without the greek gift sacrifice). Without these threats I feel like Black can walk all over me.
I know playing the Colle isn't a super aggressive system, and all I'm really hoping for is an even-ish endgame, but I need to put SOME pressure on black to get to my goal of reaching an interesting endgame. Any recommendations for A) good transpositional options when black telegraphs that he's going to play for these positions or B) ideas to play for if Black plays these systems after I'm already committed to the Colle?
Currently I work at a supermarket and twice in the past week some of our coolers have gone down, resulting in us having to buy more eggs, dairy, and produce from the suppliers, just as they intended.
I'm sure this happens at the home-scale with personal fridges and freezers too though. We've effectively bought twice as much freah food recently because of it, so I think the game was rigged from the start.
Started playing my first mobile games back in college, and now i am a fully working adult. Liked anime since I was a child, so the mobile game industry hooked me quite soon. Here are just some of the mobile games I've played over the year, some of them you may have heard, some you may have not. Road to Dragon, Avatar Drive, entire Cygames collection, Girls Frontline, Punishing Gray Raven, Azure Lane, Ark Knights, FGO, CGSS, Yinyang Shi, Rayark collection of music games, etc. etc.
First let's talk about monetization of Genshin as compare to some of if not the biggest big names out there: Granblue Fantasy, Umamusume, FGO, Genshin, Ark Knight, Azure Lane, and Girls Frontline.
From left to right it is the most predatory to the least predatory.
Granblue Fantasy despite being probably the most "generous" of all of these actually gives the player the most reason and highest satisfaction to spend. A lot of F2P players in GBF make at least several $30 purchases a year to play the game and calls themselves F2P. And those are the "free SSR pick tickets." they sometimes even come in several flavors.
I want to be hear to dispel the myth that the term developer is "generous" is such a misnomers to many players who have played gacha game for the first time of Genshin. These companies are not your friends, they dont' exist to give back to the players. They exists for the sole purpose of making money, and giving you free stuff is a way to incentivize you spending.
GBF is notorious for doing this by: giving you 100 free rolls, or even 200 free rolls, or even 270 free rolls. But the "up rate" if you play GBF, know that "Up" of a character rarely means anything in that game. and GBF requires 300 to 100% get the character you want or something else on that pick list of things you can pick. Giving you 270 free rolls, which sounds fuckin awesome right? But then a lot of small spenders would think, well i am so damn close to 300, might as well just "spend a little" to get that last 30 rolls or else i wasted my build up! Yes, GBF's pity DOES NOT carry over to the next banner.
Add this on top of a PvPvE system, and if you've played GBF for a few years, you can see with your eyes the power creep of the characters in that game. It is a direct result of balancing F2P and giving satisfaction to the whales.
Now that I've talked about one of the most predatory game on my big names list, let's talk about Girls Frontline. literally the opposite, because of the game's base genre C-li

Also, I'm gonna notate mods added post-day 30 as EX, as a reminder that they are refilling slots.
To keep this preamble short, I decided to pick up working on the FTM modpack after the pack made the OG packdev's computer nearly shit itself. To prevent similar issues, I've been working on rebuilding the pack from the ground up and removing mods as needed, rather than throwing them all in at once. As a result, I've already had to remove six mods. (and likely more in the future as I keep on building it [Currently on Day 15]) However, to keep it fair, you guys will be able to put in new mods to replace the ones we have lost.
Also, as the pack gets closer to completion, there will be some important polls regarding features and such, so keep your eyes peeled for those.
If you want to keep a closer eye on pack development and such, the obligatory discord exists.
With that out of the way, we have some slots to fill, 3 of them in fact.
The 3 topmost upvoted mod gets added.

It really does, I swear!
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
