In cloud to ground lightning what does the part of the bolt thatβs up in the clouds look like? U can never see it because itβs always hidden by clouds. Does the lightning start in one spot or come together from many spots before leaving the cloud?

A "Bolt from the Blue" is a cloud to ground lightning flash which typically comes out of the back side of the thunderstorm cloud, travels a relatively large distance in clear air away from the storm cloud, and then angles down and strikes the ground.

what if clouds and storms and etc all happened at ground/eye level. And lightning/rainstorms happened to fall below the clouds & above the clouds?

Thunder is caused by lightning. When a lightning bolt travels from the cloud to the ground it actually opens up a little hole in the air, called a channel. Once then light is gone the air collapses back in and creates a sound wave that we hear as thunder.

Lightning: so I'm guessing that there is a charge leaking from the clouds to the ground. Then, when this creates enough heat, it turns the air into plasma, then the process is repeated. Why does it come back up though, is this just an optical illusion from speed of light?
