Which episode has the story about David interviewing Claire Denis?

I remember the story involved Claire eating a salad from some chain in New York, and David saying he'd gone there. Then she responded with, "don't you have questions to ask me" or something like that.

I think it was in the Michael Mannsplaining miniseries because this was around the time High Life came out, so it would have been 2018-2019ish but I haven't heard the miniseries from 2018 yet (Michael Mannsplaining was the first miniseries I had seen of the pod before going back to the beginning).

I finally saw Beau Travail, my first Claire Denis film. I wasn't particularly a fanβ€”should I give the rest of her filmography a shot?

Now, I had to split up my viewing of Beau Travail over last night and this morning at work, but I finished it, and I am lukewarm about it. I do want to share my immediate opinion first. I "get" the movie, for the most part; I think Denis has a magnificent eye as a director, and it's a gorgeous work, but it just didn't for me what I see it doing for a lot of other people.

I understand that it's supposed to be somewhat vague and aimless, but the sporadic nature of this narrative and associated events somehow makes me feel less emotionally invested in the themes and characters than I want to be. The stoicism of these men in nearly every shot says quite a lot, but also so little, and I want to believe that there's a more effective way to display the silent roil of masculinity that doesn't come through as wholly emotionless. Because of this, motivations almost feel fake and this supposed jealousy on the part of Galoup is just not coming through for me. I don't know, maybe that's the entire point? And this theme of colonialism is also just kind of there in the background??? Kind of random.

So, I wasn't that taken with the script, but the film did wow me from a visual and auditory perspective. I'd love to give more of Denis's filmography a shot, but I am wondering if it's much the same style or if there's something there that I will possibly enjoy more? It doesn't have to be conventional either, as I have no problem with contemplative or experimental art cinema.

Also, please feel free to just discuss Beau Travail if you'd like. I'd ask that you try not to convince me to love it or anything, however, as I'm not looking for that or any arguments! Thanks.

Okay so I watched Beau Travail last night. How should I approach Claire Denis' filmography?

Wow, what a movie! I was mesmerised throughout.

Now I want to watch more of Denis. Should I go about watching her movies in a chronological order? Or is there a more thematic approach?

Thanks a bunch.

Can anyone ID these shoes in Trouble Every Day by Claire Denis?

Trying very hard to ID these! From the second photo, it looks as if the brand begins with Jet S... or Jot S... Either way the name seems to be two words beginning with J and S. Would love to figure this out if anyone has any ideas.

High Life (2019) Claire Denis

I’m not sure what I thought about this film.I could see clearly that it was drawing heavily on Tarkovsky and on 2001. I’m not sure whether it was to its benefit or not. I know I didn’t like the dialogue. It seems stiff and artificial. I thought there were some strong scenes and the way the narrative revealed itself was compelling. I’m interested to hear what other people thought. I think this was the first Claire Denis film I have seen.
