Young Women Remember Chris Noth, Accused of Sexual Assault, As a ‘Sleazy’ Figure Around New York

I live in NYC and go to school in one of the areas he is frequently seen at (Upper East Side). He used to be one of my favorite actors. Not surprised, but pretty disappointing.

Are people seriously insinuating that they (producers, cast, and crew) knew Noth was a creep/serial assaulter for years and kept him on the show just to kill him off because it would make for must see TV/Streaming?

That the Producers, SJP, and the rest of the cast would risk their meal ticket, future opportunities, and possible legal liability just for that? In this era of accountability?

I want to start this post by asking that everyone please be respectful towards the women who have come forward with allegations against Chris Noth.

This post is not to debate the validity of the accusations. I’m genuinely just curious as a long time fan of the OG series and someone who has been so stoked for AJLT.

There are already consequences showing up in the actor’s life, from his agency dropping him to his wife/family being distraught and potentially spending Christmas away from him, etc. his tequila company deal going under, Peloton ad being pulled (rightfully so).

But where does this leave SATC as a series? Personally, as a cisgendered gay male, I can hardly stomach to see this guy anymore. I’m having a very real reaction to the media coverage and his speaking out. I truthfully don’t think I can ever watch the show again, at least not the seasons where he is heavily featured.

I never thought something like this would happen with one of my iconic, staple shows. I can’t just ignore it though. It doesn’t feel right to enjoy any of Big’s storylines anymore and I just don’t wanna see him on my TV ever again. It might seem kinda silly but I had the same reaction when Kevin Spacey’s victim’s accusations surfaced. As much as I loved American Beauty, I have never been able to watch it again or anything he’s in for that matter. Especially given the context of the film’s plot line, the underaged schoolgirl and everything. So messed up.

What are your thoughts on this? Are you done with the OG series? Do you still need some time to process this and work it out for yourself?

I’m also so curious to know what the rest of the cast/production must be thinking or feeling.

ETA: I’ve read through a lot of your responses and while I can respect our different perspectives, I thought I’d explain a little why it’s gonna be nearly impossible/very difficult for me to ever watch the show again…

During one of the accounts I read, one of the young women who was allegedly assaulted details working at an establishment or agency Noth used to frequent. She claims it was during the height of his SATC fame, etc. and so, for me, no matter when these events took place, while this man/character was on the show, we could very well be looking at him and watching him perform, on a day sometime i

I don't think big was meant to be more than just a few flashbacks. People seek to think episodes and storylines are being chopped and not making sense because of the allegations. I just think the writing is a bit clunky. I think people like Gloria and Natasha were just meant to appear as they did.

So I watch SATC about once every year or two. It’s comfort food. It reminds me of watching with my girlfriends when we were in late hs and early college yrs. that said, I am extremely sensitive to violence against women in any way but especially this. I can’t watch certain shows bc of the content… it upsets too much. Which brings me to my point, I don’t think I can watch SATC anymore. Everytime I see big I will just see women getting victimized in my head. What an asshole.

I get that maybe she has to craft something with her publicist or something, but it's been long enough now that the silence is uncomfortably loud.

How AJLT as an entity responds to this thing is, I think, going to make a big difference as to whether or not people continue to watch it.
