A list of puns related to "Carpinteria Tar Pits"
Such a great song. Love the drums, lyrics, strings and overall vibe.
Havenβt been on since before Hearth and Home.
Did my old save file update to have Tar in the Plains? Or do I need a new seed?
Black Tar Heroine
We crested the edge of the pit only to discover there was more tar
There were some players who claimed that the plains felt too empty before the addition of the pits. While I agree, I found that to be quite neat. If you ever lived near actual plains, it is a long patch of nothingness where a single house, road sign or tree becomes exponentially more interesting because of this very lack of objects.
With the addition of tar pits, the biome has certainly become more crowded however, I feel as if there are some issues with their implementation.
Let me begin with the positive, I saw three Lox getting attacked by the Growth going into the tar pits and dying. After clearing the growth and attempting to loot the dead Lox, I was prompted with "The object is stuck in tar". This I found to be quite nice, I have not seen such interaction before, it made sense, it was a "fun" mechanic to play around and it meant that you could not use the growth as your personal death squad.
As for the negative, the placement of growth is sometimes -for the lack of a better term- weird. I have came across four Fuling Villages today, all of them had a pit in aggro distance. They were so close that I did not understand at first why the villages were half destroyed and were lacking the usual berserkers and the shamans. Only after realising their distance to the pits I understood what happened. This made the villages easier to loot, but completely deprived me of the joy of actually raiding them. Put aside the "serious lore analysis" why would fulings, who are intelligent on most counts, make their villages near the pits, and so on. Their proximity to the villages turn the villages into dead loot zones.
Additionally, I do not think the growth are fun mobs. They chainslow you into death, so you either kite them around a rock or po pthe bonemass and try to go full in before your stamina ends. A lot of mobs in this game is "annoying". However they are often a fun kind of annoying, with several ways of dealing with them. Growth is what would be a "bullshit mob" in a JRPG.
Finally, there are three pits around my maps Yagluth altar. The boss fight has become more about making sure the growth are cleared out than the boss itself. I like all the stuff you can create with tar, and I enjoy some of their mechanics, but i just wish that such mobs would spawn less frequently and at further distances than other structures.
How do you feel about the Growth?
Edit: After reading all your posts (thank you btw) I have come to the conclusion that the difficulty
... keep reading on reddit β‘Just entering the Plains with this character and I set up a base in the first Fuling village I encountered. After fortifying the perimeter, I set out to find a tar pit. Well, it was a triple! Fought off the tar-"creatures" (without dying!) and drained them all down the same channel. Worked out great and I claimed 69 tar for all my work. I was pleased.
Edited to remove offensive term. It was not used unintentionally.

So on my cousin's server where we have explored quite a bit I can't find any tar pits. I've actually found zero despite there being about 5 or 6 huge plains biomes.
However, on my own local private game, I found two tarpits pretty quickly. is this just a coincidence or does the fact that my cousin probably already explored all these plains mean that tar pits won't spawn on them?
It just hit me today to look up the Maltese locations from TAR 25 while I'm here. I unintentionally went to 3 of the route markers without meaning to go for its TAR significance already. However, I will be unable to parody Maya's ridiculous pit stop entrance as Fort Manoel is shut down for the time being.
5 paths, each path is around the same length as blons, and every 2 rounds, the tracks change direction. So round 1 and 2 follow the red arrow, then rounds 3 and 4 go the opposite direction, etc.

I just encountered my first tar pit and OMG I HATE THE TAR BLOBS MORE THAN ANYTHING I'VE EVER SEEN IN VALHEIM
Hi everyone!! 3 moths ago I locked some dino on the tar pit and today I`ve been able to withdraw some of them, but the rest is still locked...does anyone know if this is normal and when will the rest of the balance be available?
I was at bronze tier when the H&H update released. I had not explored plains at all except at a far distance. Iβm having trouble finding tar pits now. Are they rare? Or did I mess up by not starting completely fresh?
edit: Thanks for the tips. Went over the next hill and found 2 pits relatively close by. Can confirm the old worlds will spawn tar pits in unexplored areas.
I know that if you have empty bottles in the swamp and you go to the tar pit you should be able to create cherry bombs and it doesnβt matter what character you use.
However I cannot figure out how to do it. Iβll hold the bottle over the pit and let go and it just comes back. I have no idea, can someone enlighten me?
I was so confused when the guys started talking about this. The way they described it sounded like a giant natural landmark out in the desert or something.
But thenβ¦
I googled it. When I saw the images I was transported back to the mid-90s.
Anyone remember the movie Volcano? It starts off with some bubbling and gurgling at the tar pits. Now everything makes sense.
Also relevant bc they talked about Tommy Lee Jones recently (yes points!)
Hi, I was wondering how fast fullings take down stakewalls when the event triggers. I'm currently building a town in solo survival and have stakewalls currently. I have not killed moder yet, and am considering holding off on that until I have finished building a lox pen and have mapped out where I want my defensive stone walls to go along with a gatehouse. I need more tar and of course need to get all the spawning materials to summon and kill the 5th boss for those events to stop. I'm considering killing moder in order to get better armor to raid those camps and get tar. Is it worth it dealing with fulling events or should I just keep building and exploring for tar pits in plains and after that kill moder? I have max silver equipment etc. I could place a stone temporary wall around my town but I don't know if it's worth it dealing with those raids or not
I know, unpopular to like, but I want to get all of the tar clothing and it has been a struggle to get the last piece I need. Even the last tar pit I was in had all the other clothing, but not the last piece I need. I want to get the tar mask, the thin one, and I have been searching forever to just get the tar pit, where the clothing spawns.
I have looked at the wiki, search desert planets and I may find the tar biome, which may have the underground tar pit. The tar pit is where the clothing spawns, according to the wiki. Does anyone have tips? Is there any clues I can find tar pits? Do I have to mine at a specific level, to hopefully bump into one?
I hope I can get tips on finding such locations, as I have been having a hard time finding them and the clothing itself. I want to make my first permanent base, but I want it in the theme of tar.
So as the title says, tar pits do not spawn on old worlds, anybody else experiences that same thing? Running a server but have tested the world in offline mode to check.
Edit: Game has been updated to fix this problem.
