... keep reading on reddit ➡Hello everyone! I decided (since I was interested) to include an excerpt from Finding Freedom regarding Pippa’s wedding.
Pippa got married on May 20, 2017. Harry and Meghan were not engaged yet. At this point they had been dating almost a year, and had just gone public with the relationship at Christmas 2016. Meghan moved into KP in winter of 2017, just as a frame of reference for where they are in their relationship.
Both Pippa and Carole were concerned that Meghan & Harry would overshadow the wedding. According to FF (so take it with a grain of salt) MM and PH were facing intense paparazzi attention. However, Pippa set a “no ring, no bring” policy for the wedding ceremony, which is NOT mentioned in FF. Here’s a direct quote about Meghan getting ready for the wedding:
“Meghan put careful thought into her outfit, leaning heavily on Jessica to pull together an ensemble that was stylish without being splashy when walking into the church with Harry. Her determination not to make a misstep at Pippa’s wedding was just one in many actions she took befitting a woman on track to becoming royalty.”
Now that you’ve stopped rolling your eyes, get a taste of what comes out the DAY of the wedding: Wedding of the Rears: https://images.app.goo.gl/SM9qFzp1L529qoNF9
More from FF: “Harry and Meghan agreed that she couldn’t possibly turn up at the church, only fifty meters away from a specially arranged media pen, after such a crass cover story. If they worried their arrival might create a media circus despite taking every precaution, now they had no doubt that it would”.
What’s the takeaway? Well, this all seems to be written in response to this https://observer.com/2020/08/meghan-markle-skipped-pippa-middleton-wedding-ceremony-media-attention-prince-harry-details/ article. The article asserts that casual dates were not invited to the ceremony (no ring, no bring, remember?). However, Saint Meghan - OOPS! I mean Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand - seems think she WAS invited but she didn’t want to upstage or offend Pippa after a tabloid cover glorifying Meghan’s toned ass.
What I think happened (tinfoil hat time): I can’t decided if Meghan was or was not invited to the ceremony. I think she assumed she was, because why make a point of mentioning the specific Philip Tracy hat she would have worn? But she wants to sound like she didn’t go, as a favor to Pippa of course, because she is after all our Saint Meghan. FF says she didn’t want to overshadow. Since when h

Even if you don't put Mandy Thompson or Mark Harrigan at the top of your list, you probably agree that they're near the top. Most folks agree that Lola, Jim, and Skids are hanging around the bottom of the list. Dexter and Akachi are going to show up somewhere in the middle. But what investigators is there the most disagreement on?
I looked through every tier list I could for the biggest gaps in evaluation, and then tried to understand what was leading to those different conclusions. Here are the most divisive investigators:
#6) Tony Morgan
Nobody questions the fact that Tony is one of the best monster-hunters out there. 5 base Combat and an extra action for fighting is a recipe for success. But some people list him as a top-five investigator while other people put him in the middle of the pack due to his mental fragility. Willpower 2 and Sanity 5 is a bad combination, and an unlucky draw can get you knocked out by a pair of Rotting Remains before you've got the time to set up. You can spend some slots on defense, but there's still a big difference between a Guardian who says, "Let me handle this!" and Tony saying, "You handle this one!"
#5) Ursula Downs
Ursula was voted the most powerful investigator in the MythosBusters poll last year, but frequently shows up in the bottom half of tier lists. What gives? Well, her 4 Intelligence puts her behind a lot of Seekers at her primary job, and her deckbuilding is extremely restrictive. Even Rex's Dunwich splash offers more power and flexibility to a seeker than the available relic options. She's at her best in low-difficulty and low-player-count games where she can focus on scooping up clues before problems start to pile up.
#4) Carolyn Fern
Carolyn is the investigator on this list that I understand the least. What exactly are you supposed to do with her? You're obviously not a traditional guardian, given your weapons 1-5 ban. Horror isn't such a ubiquitous threat that having a single player who *just* heals horror is an effectivities party member. You can leverage your Intelligence 4 and Seeker/Mystic splash to be a decent cluever, but you don't have the stats or hig

The jury in Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex trafficking trial began its fifth day of deliberations on Tuesday as the socialite continues a long wait to hear whether she will face up to 70 years in prison.
Jurors are considering six charges against Ms Maxwell, who is accused of recruiting and grooming teenage girls for convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein to abuse.
She has pleaded not guilty to all charges and said she is being made a scapegoat for Epstein’s acts after he died in 2019 while awaiting his own trial.
Over about 16 hours of deliberation last week, the jury requested transcripts of testimony from four women who claimed Ms Maxwell facilitated Epstein’s abuse and sometimes took part in it herself.
The first request came on 21 December regarding testimony from three of the women: Jane, Carolyn, and Annie Farmer. Just before the court went into recess on 22 December, jurors asked for testimony from the fourth accuser, Kate, and from Juan Alessi, former house manager at Epstein’s Florida estate.
On Monday, jurors requested three more transcripts of testimony from Jane’s ex-boyfriend, a police officer who led a 2005 raid at Epstein’s home, and a pilot on the financier’s “Lolita Express”.
Judge addresses ‘high and escalating’ Omicron risk
With everyone assembled, Judge Nathan said she will offer an update on deliberations going forward later today.
Citing the “high and escalating risk” of the Omicron Covid variant, she said: “It’s time to have the jurors make plans to continue deliberating until a verdict is reached.”
In regards to her decision to keep jurors until 6pm on Tuesday, she said: “I am doing this because of the expansion of Omicron.”
Defence asks to clarify instructions
Ms Maxwell’s attorneys have submitted a letter asking Judge Nathan to clarify directions on counts two and four in the jury instructions.
Count two is for “enticing a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts”, and count four is four “transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity”. They carry maximum sentences of five and ten years, respectively.
The defence letter requests “additional instructions to correct apparent errors in the jury’s understanding” of the counts.
Jurors resume deliberations for fifth day
Jurors began their fifth day of d

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
So in May 2018, I wrote a big post that was in effect a short guide to (what I thought to be) the most essential commentary or commentaries for every book in the Hebrew Bible. If you want the full breakdown on how exactly I assessed* "essential," you can read more in the original post; but it pretty much all boiled down to which commentaries were most philologically and analytically comprehensive, and the most recent.
The business of high–level commentary writing is for the most part pretty slow, for obvious reasons. However, in 2022 there are now a ton of different commentary series out there; and so really, there are multiple commentaries coming out every month. Of course, though, there's pretty wide variance in terms of the quality and intended audience of these.
So this is just a short update to what's new in the world of top-tier commentaries since early 2018. Note, though, that in later 2018, I already made some edits to my original post: to the entry for Isaiah, and some to Zechariah; and I also added new commentaries and details to the section on Amos, Ezekiel, Nahum and Habakkuk.
Finally, please let me know if you know of a post-2017 commentary that I've missed out on. I'd love to be able to add it to this list.
The Anchor series has been quiet since 2018. At the time of my original post, Williamson's massive commentary on Isaiah 6-12 had just been released; and I had mentioned the forthcoming publication of Stephen Cook's commentary on Ezekiel 38-48, released in November 2018.
In what's to me is a rather strange choice, the next slated Anchor release is David Brakke's commentary on the Gospel of Judas, coming out next month. After that, in April, it will release Daniel Schwartz's commentary on 1 Maccabees, replacing the older Anchor commentary by Goldstein from 1976. There's a lot to live up to there, as Goldstein's was definitely one of the best older entries; though Schwartz has already written a fantastic commentary on 2 Maccabees for the Commentaries on Early Jewish Literature series. (On that note, nothing has been released by CEJL since Allison's 2018 commentary on 4 Baruch.)
Hermeneia has been a bit more active than Anchor since 2018. Outside of the canon entirely, VanderKam has continued his es

Adam Horowitz, who previously has represented Epstein accusers, says these apparent mistakes could discourage future whistleblowers from coming forward — Last week in the sex-trafficking trial of Ghislaine Maxwell, defense attorney Jeff Pagliuca made a show of remembering to respect an alleged victim’s request for anonymity. He had just begun discussing the first accuser, known only by the pseudonym “Jane” while cross-examining Jeffrey Epstein’s former estate staff member Juan Alessi. Judge Alison Nathan broke in with a reminder to not say Jane’s real name out loud. Pagliuca told the judge not to worry. “I have it blacked out on all my copies,” he said, referring to the documents in front of him. Nathan replied that she was also providing the reminder for the benefit of Alessi, who was less familiar with the process. Then Pagliuca read from the document in front of him and promptly spoke Jane’s real first name out loud.
Today, he did it again. In open court, he uttered the real last name of Carolyn, the third of four accusers to testify for the state, who tearfully recounted testimony of being abused by Epstein and Maxwell starting when she was 14, and whom counsel had agreed to refer to by her first name only. Prosecutors immediately complained to the judge.
Attorney Adam Horowitz, who represented eight Epstein victims in a Florida civil suit around 2009, thinks that’s one occasion too many to be a slip of the tongue. “It’s one of those things where the first time maybe it’s a mistake,” he says. “The second time, there’s a pattern now that something is being done purposefully, which is disturbing, because there’s a court order that he’s not allowed to use the name.” (Pagliuca did not immediately respond for comment; we will update if he does.)
Horowitz says that if the revelation of the alleged victims’ names is an intentional attempt to expose or embarrass them, it isn’t working. “Thankfully, no major media outlets have reported the name,” he says. “So it’s not an effective strategy.” But total secrecy isn’t the biggest concern. After all, Jane’s provided enough detail about her career and upbringing that it isn’t impossible to suss out her identity — the issue is the betrayal of trust of alleged victims who have agreed to cooperate with the prosecution of an alleged sex-trafficker by telling a jury,

On Friday, the prosecution rested in its sex-trafficking and conspiracy case against Ghislaine Maxwell, who stands accused of helping the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein procure underage girls to abuse.
They called 24 witnesses, including former private pilots and household employees of Epstein’s, a psychologist to speak as an expert witness on childhood sexual abuse, and four accusers. Through testimony — bolstered by birth certificates, flight logs, photographs and floor plans of Epstein’s various planes and properties, and other evidence — the prosecution laid out the argument they’d set up in opening statements: That Maxwell was Epstein’s “second in command” and that she’d “[set] young girls up to be molested by a predator.”
Prosecutors have not needed to show that Maxwell abused the girls, only that she helped Epstein secure girls, for illegal sexual activity for the conspiracy counts, and that she helped “entice, recruit, and transport” minors for the purpose of illegal sexual activities for the trafficking counts. Incidentally, however, multiple women described Maxwell having touched their breasts. Maxwell, 59, has denied all charges, and could spend the rest of her life in prison if she’s convicted.
The defense has cross-examined most of the government’s witnesses, devoting the majority of their time to working on discrediting the women who accuse Maxwell of aiding in their abuse by Epstein. Along the way, a narrative has emerged among some observers that the prosecution’s case isn’t as strong as it should be. Not everyone agrees.
Attorney Lisa Bloom, an admittedly embattled figure in the world of sex crimes litigation, has worked on both sides of cases like this. She has represented eight Epstein accusers, and also, it was revealed in 2017, advised disgraced movie mogul and MeToo supervillain Harvey Weinstein, who is serving a 23-year prison sentence for a rape and sexual assault, on how to launder his reputation

Hi everybody! So I gave myself a reading challenge based off the 50 states: For each state I'll be reading a work by an author born in said state, a poet (all native Americans poets. I couldn't find poets for a few states tho so I instead went with a native american historical nonfiction for the states I couldn't find), a fiction, a nonfiction, a historical Nonfiction, and a young adult novel. So in total I'll be reading 6 books for each state. It took me a good while to find all the books I wanted for each category but I've finally done it!! That being said, I had the thought that it might be fun to get another category going- suggestions or favorites from everybody on here. So would everybody give me their suggestions of their favorite books set in each state, or just books that you think would fit perfect with this challenge, please and thank you!! I added my list below. It's a long one!
