hey anime suggest folks so i’m spending a lot of hours on art and mindless games and i’ve been searching for long anime to keep on in the background and i came across inuyasha. i’m almost done with all the episodes they have available on my steaming site and i want to find more older, simple shows like that. i’m planning on watching ranma but i’d like to see if there’s anything else i’m forgetting to add to my watch list.

here are some things i’d prefer :

• i really want it to have an eng dub since it’ll be on in the background and i can’t look up to read subtitles often with the activities im doing
• pretty simple i guess ? don’t have the attention span for psychological stuff right now even though i love all that any other time.
• if it’s on a major streaming site and you know it’s on there then that’s great

Cardcaptor Sakura was and is one of my favourite anime shows. Written by CLAMP a group of four manga artists from Japan (Nanase Ohkawa, Mokona Apapa, Mick Nekoi, Satsuki Igarashiand), Cardcaptor Sakura follows the story of Kinomoto Sakura (obviously) as she tries to balance her life where she is both a normal school student and a magical girl.

Nelvana, the same studio that brought out the excellent (and faithful adaptation of Hergé's Tintin, acquired the rights to the show to broadcast it in the USA (this version was what I saw as a 6th grad student) and spent an INSANE amount of money (to the tune of $100,000 per fucking episode) to edit it. This edit involved deleting out plots, changing character motivations, and characterisations, removing out "controversial" elements (which you guessed it, it do be the gay) to make it palatable to American audiences.

Among these changes was the change to the story. In an attempt to appeal to the boys (who were the target demographic) instead of you know, not trying to appeal to girls, they reworked the show to give the love interest of Sakura, Syaoran Li, to both have a bigger role and making him a deuteragonist instead of a supporting character. This reduces the impact of Sakura in her own fucking show.

Which I think, if you haven't guessed yet, is absolute horseshit. When I rewatched the series in undergrad, I was surprised to see how different (and better) the original show was and how I'd picked up on a lot of the changes without realising it because it just didn't make any fucking sense.
