I've just recently returned from a long (+/- 5 years) break from reading fantasy. Started off by rereading slme of my old favourites - Paloni's Inheritance Cycle and Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice (though I skipped the most recent one).

I then moved on to Miles' Masters & Mages trilogy. Thoroughly enjoyed the first book, Cold Iron, mostly, I think, due to the more back drop slice-of-life ish nature it had going on. Really enjoyed the little travel parts at the beginning, and his initial relationship with Dahlia. I wasn't as engrossed in the ending portion, but hey, climax gotta climax.

I didn't enjoy Dark Forge nearly as much. Not that I'm not a fan of big wars and military strategy, it was just a bit much from the pace and types of conflicts in book 1. Should I still read Bright Steel? I've been told it mixes a bit of both book 1 and 2, but I'm starting to feel like I should just look for a no series (no hate Mr. Cameron!). Do we ever return to the Inn and his family, or does our MC remain wrapped up in political and military strife?

On that note, any fantasy recommendations? I quite like how Cameron didn't shy away from romance and non-graphic sex. I was always wishing for a tad bit more from Eragon and Ranger's Apprentice, but I think the demographic was a little different.

1 Jacksonville Jaguars (Evan Neal OT, Alabama)

Jaguars could go with either EDGE or OL in this first spot, one of them protects the most important part of their franchise, the other does not. I love Thibs and think he will be a very good player wherever he lands but making sure Lawrence doesn’t go the luck route should be the #1 priority and I think Neal is the best OT in the draft.

2 Detroit Lions (Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon)

I originally wanted Hutch to go here. He has a high motor, works very hard, and feels like the guy for a dan Campbell team, though I feel like Thibodeaux is a better player and will be the superstar for the lions on defense going forward. Though it would be fun to see the Michigan guy stay, he just doesn't seem as appealing as the star edge from Oregon.

3 Houston Texans (Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan)

The Texans should be absolutely jacked with this pick. They need help at nearly every position on the field and a future defensive star is exactly where you look for this pick. I understand the want to give the Texans a lineman with the projection of Ikem Ekwonu but i feel O-line is the position that the Texans need the least, especially with 2x Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil, who they traded their franchise for a few years ago

4 Carolina Panthers  (Ikem Ekwonu, OT, NC State)TRADE1

The Panthers need OT BAD. The Panthers are currently sitting just out of range of the 2 best tackles in the draft, and with a relatively low price to go from Charles Cross to Ikem Ekwonu, who many consider to be the best OT in the draft, it is an easy decision to make and never have to make again with your starting LT for the future. And yea I get that most mocks have them going with QBs but they are sticking to Darnold this year and aren't shy about it. He gets his final shot this year before becoming CFL legend Sam Darnold.

5 New York Giants (Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State)

I wanted to go with George Karlaftis here, but after looking through some comments on the Giants sub and taking into account the team's apparent hope to stay with Danny Dimes (for now at least), They need to finally get their other tackle. Andrew Thomas has had an alright-good year (from what I’ve heard) but the rest of that line is really bad, if they plan on giving Jones the same treatment I expect the panthers to give Darnold, gotta go with the best OL available (other than Linderbaum because no center should go 5th overall). I think this is a reach but

This is my first mock draft that I will publish over the course of the draft season. No Trades yet.

1. JAX - Evan Neal (OT) - I've seen many people mocking Kayvon Thibodeaux to the Jaguars and although I believe Kayvon is the best player in the draft, you have to protect your superstar QB. Evan Neal is a great tackle prospect that can help protect Trevor's blindside for many years to come.
2. DET - Kayvon Thibodeaux (EDGE) - I know that the thought of a homestate player like Hutchinson seems like too good to be true. Kayvon is an excellent player that can rejuvenate a poorer Lions defense.
3. HOU - Aidan Hutchinson (EDGE) - The Texans go BPA and take the second best EDGE in the class. The Texans need a lot of help on both sides of the ball but they need someone to get after the QB. Hutchinson had an impressive year and should continue that success into his rookie season.
4. NYJ - Kyle Hamilton (S) - Probably the best and most versatile player in the entire draft and although he is a safety and this might be too high, he is just so good. I recently had him falling to the Falcons and the Jets taking a lineman but that can be addressed in FA. Kyle can basically play anywhere and he fills the question mark around Safety for the Jets.
5. NYG - Ikem Ekwonu (OT) - After moving over to LT this past year, Ikem has shown great improvement. He can play LT or LG and can be a great RT to pair with Andrew Thomas. I believe the Giants should fill their GAPING holes on the offensive line to protect a QB that they should take in 2023.
6. CAR - Charles Cross (OT) - The third best tackle in this class goes to a team in desperate need of O-line help. I've seen plenty of people mocking a QB to the Panthers but I believe their need to protect their current QB is higher. Cross will instantly be one of the best players on that horrible O-line.
7. NYG - George Karlaftis (EDGE) - Giants fans are begging for an EDGE rusher and Karlaftis is that man. On a weaker Purdue where he didn't put up insane numbers, Karlaftis was one of the bright spots on defense. I had the Giants taking Linderbaum for a couple months but this seems unrealistic with centers normally falling.
8. ATL - David Ojabo (EDGE) - One of the most athletic players in the draft goes to a team desperate to put pressure on the QB. The Falcons only had 18 sacks and Ojabo should help with that total next year. Ojabo benefitted from Hutchinson on the other side but he can should still produce at the higher level.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

I've been reading nothing but HFY for the past week and I felt inspiration calling. Please enjoy and if there are any errors needing squashed, feel free to shine a light.

The entrances to the grand auditorium were carefully watched by vigilant guardians. None of the students understood why their devices were being logged and confiscated entering the premises. It was not a regular procedure for the Galactic Military Academy, despite all of its various fields of study.

However, attendance was a pass or fail for three semester’s worth of courses. Not just AI Theory Advanced, not just AI Theory Basic, but also Philosophy and Social Science.

Further still, all faculty offered substantial extra credit. No other event elicited the same response.

It took nearly an entire class period to seat dozens of species, all hopefuls from their respective homeworlds. Carnivores, herbivores, the rare omnivores. Bipedal, tripedal, quadrupedal, multi-tentacled. A newly installed section of the audience was even devoted to aquatic species, both those able to wear environmental suits or the open ocean and freshwater chambers integrated within the academy’s campus that allowed for free swimming across the grounds.

Lights began to dim. Voices hissed and rumbled and cooed into silence.

A figure walked up to the podium. Biped. Four limbs total. Strange. Proportions off compared to virtually all other civilizations present in the galaxy.

“Thank you for your attendance,” a voice rang out. A high pitch voice in the clear common language. There was a curious accent to it that many of the students noted. “A short question and answer will be held after the main lecture.”

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

It really does, I swear!

I should preface this by clarifying that she's not a wrestling fan in the traditional sense. She's a fan of good television, and she believes wrestling can be good television, yet if I don't suggest a match or watch a show with her, she doesn't watch it at all. After 2+ months of NXT 2.0, she's gained a sense of who's who, what's what, and where they're trying to take the show. That's fine by me, I'm done trying to get her into wrestling the way a wrestling fan is. That being said, she has quite strong opinions on it all, so it seems right to share them, the thoughts of a true "casual" fan in an age where CM Punk thinks they don't exist anymore.

From what I can tell, she doesn't have a particular feeling about styles of wrestling. Hardcore appeals to her, but simply because it's the easiest wrestling to compare to a fight scene. Comedy too, as her favorites outside of NXT 2.0 are comedic (Dude Love, Toru Yano, and Curry Man.) Technical, big man, high flying, it's all fine with her. Her taste in wrestlers is similar, though she’s generally more engaged by women.

Favourite Men:

1. Joe Gacy and Harland:

She loves Gacy plenty on his own, but putting him with Harland adds something. "Auschwitz Survivor and his woke grandson kill people" was her exact comment. In hindsight, it doesn't surprise me that Joe is her favorite. We're both fat nerds who love good tendies and good storytelling, and as much as people like to say otherwise, Gacy tells a fantastic story.

2.Kyle O'Reilly & Von Wagner: From the moment she saw Von Wagner jump into Kyles locker to shield him from the wet british melts, she knew there was something there. As the weeks went on, this duo started to solidify themselves to her as some of the most entertaining characters on television.

Kyle, a grizzled veteran at only 34 years old. Technician standout with a comedic streak turned PG Joker turned bitcoin invester. She's never not liked Kyle, but in NXT 2.0, he's soared to her. She especially likes that he just does what he wants, including challenging Karrion Kross and doing coke in the woods with Von Wagner

Von Wagner. In her words, "The Doomguy of being a Minnesotan." He has an absolutely indomitable energy that she loves. Von Wagner almost appeals to her like a Better Call Saul character more than a wrestler, but his wrestling catches her eye as well. His promos were an instant highlight of any Dynamite. Instead, I wandered over to my office and finished the latest version of my will, just in case. After throwing it in my drawer, I sighed and decided that I wanted a drink. That particular mood didn’t last. I’d stopped at one drink by the time Greesly leaned into my office. “Someone wants to talk to you,” he said.

“Alright, make it quick. I’m expecting a call.”

2022 NFL DRAFT RB Rankings

1. Breece Hall (Iowa St) 6’1” 215 LBS.

Hall led the nation in rushing yards in 2020. He has good vision and the speed to break off big runs. He is a smooth runner that can change directions and make defenders miss, while also being physical and breaking tackles. Does a good job in the red zone and short-yardage situations using his athletic ability and length to jump over the line.

2021 Stats: 235 ATT – 1,230 RUSH YDS – 17 RUSH TD

2. Rachaad White (Arizona State) 6’2” 210 LBS.

Despite only 4 games a year ago White averaged 143 total yards per game in 2020. He can run by you or over you. He has picked up right where he left off a season ago. Leads the team in receptions with 40 thus far in 2021. He is a three down back and one of the best pass catchers in this running back class.

2021 Stats: 161 ATT – 908 RUSH YDS – 14 RUSH TD

3. Kenneth Walker (Michigan State) 5’10” 210 LBS.

The Wake Forest transfer has been the most dominant back in college football so far this season. He shows good quickness and makes defenders miss with the speed to take it to the house. His best quality is his abilty to get yards after contact. Very well might be the top back off the board if he decides to come out, still could improve as a receiver.

2021 Stats: 233 – 1,498 RUSH YDS – 17 RUSH TD

4. Isiah Spiller (Texas A&M) 6’1” 220 LBS.

Spiller emerged as a freshman and came back even stronger as a sophomore. He has very good vision and makes decisive cuts. Trying to tackle him is a task as he possesses good contact balance and enough speed to break off some big runs.

2021 Stats: 168 ATT – 984 RUSH YDS – 6 RUSH TD

5. Brian Robinson (Alabama) 6’1” 228 LBS.

Robinson has taken advantage of being the top guy after 1st round draft choice Najee Harris departed for the NFL. Alabama offensive line this year is substandard compared to the past couple of years and despite that Robinson has played very well. He shows good vision with excellent acceleration to get up to top speed fast. A hard runner with really good balance, and is a tough running back to bring down.

2021 Stats: 191 ATT – 945 RUSH YDS – 6 RUSH TD

6. Kyren Williams (Notre Dame) 5’9” 185 LBS

Williams exploded onto the scene last year as a sophomore. Could be the most complete back in the draft. Does a good job picking up the blitz, can line up in the slot and, catch it out of the backfield. Williams is having a good year despite some of the offensive line woes of Notre Dame.

This is my Just For Fun Two Round Mock. I am not an expert like Gouge so lower your expectations. I may not give a blurb for each pick if I don't feel like it. This is Just For Fun so please be respectful with critiques in the comments.

1. Jags - Kayvon Thibodeaux EDGE Oregon
With Cam Robinson potentially leaving in FA, they could consider Neal here. But the upside of pairing Thibs with Josh Allen is too high to pass up.

2. Lions - Aidan Hutchinson EDGE Michigan
The Lions get some much needed effort getting at the passer with the local kid.

3. TRADE: Broncos (from Texans) - Matt Corral QB Ole Miss
The Broncos trade a 2023 1st and maybe a 2nd too, not sure what it would take with the Houston Texans. They have a contender level roster in a loaded division and need to get ahead of Carolina and potential trade up candidates like WFT, Pitt, etc. to secure a QB. As for the Texans, they need to make up for the loss of capital that Bill O'Brien bled out of the organization. They have a ton of holes and can still get a top 10 player.

4. Jets - Kyle Hamilton S Notre Dame
Saleh will be salivating at the chance to scheme up a safety with as much versatility as Hamilton. They might have gone corner, and could still address it later, but their young CB's have played above expectation this season.

5. Giants - Evan Neal OT Alabama
What luck, this is a dream scenario for NY who needs serious help on the line of scrimmage.

6. Panthers - Ikem Ekwonu OT NC State
With Darnold already costing $19MM in 2022, the Panthers opt for the sensible choice and bolster a tattered offensive line rather than add another QB to the roster.

7. Giants - George Karlaftis EDGE Purdue
NY shores up the other side of the ball and adds some needed pass rush.

8. Falcons - Nakobe Dean LB Georgia
Dean's ability to attack the run and blitz the passer is an attractive option for a Falcons defense with only a handful of bright spots.

9. Texans (from Broncos) - Derek Stingley CB LSU
Texans land a potential difference maker in the secondary that they may have taken at 3 overall anyway. Add in some 2023 picks and you can't beat it.

10. Jets - David Ojabo EDGE Michigan
Five pass rushers in the Top 10 seems crazy, but with so many teams either not in a position or not in need of a QB, the edge class dries up quick. Ojabo is unpolished but Saleh should be able to develop and extract his potential as good or even better than just about an
