A list of puns related to "Buck And Wing"
There's a lot of talk about that "trick" play the Chiefs ran last night on 4th and short. I wanted to take that opportunity to show you where that play came from, and how it's not really a trick play at all, but in fact, a very traditional play in the history of football. The play the Chiefs ran was from a traditional "Unbalance Single Wing" formation. Some have called this the "Rockne Box," which is not true...
In the single wing offense, the QB is not a traditional QB. Instead, the QB would often be called the BB (blocking back), and usually was a large fullback/TE type build who's primary job was to block. This player also aligns offset, usually behind a guard or in the B-gap (between the guard and tackle). The fullback and halfback then line up over the guards, or sometimes the fullback would be directly behind the center. Then the "Single Wing" is defined by the lone wing-back off to the strong side. The Rockne Box was very similar, except it involved a full strong side shift, that left the halfback behind the center, with the fullback off to the strong side. The classic single wing often features an unbalanced line, while the Rockne Box, as a shift from the balanced T-formation, was often ran with a balanced line.
The left diagram is the classic single-wing formation. The right diagram is the Rockne Box (he would also widen out the two ends). The Chiefs used the first formation.

BUCK LATERAL SERIES
Within the single-wing were series or packages of running schemes that are designed to look like each other. The Chiefs took a page out of the "Buck Lateral" series. The Buck Lateral has two main features. First, the fullback "bucks" or plunges into the middle of the line off a direct snap (the play the Chiefs ran). If you watched the Super Bowl, you saw Mahomes turn around at the snap to face the fullback. This is so the QB/BB can receive a handoff from the fullback bucking forward if called. The "lateral" part of the series would involve the BB (Mahomes) then taking the handoff from the fullback, then "lateralin
