A list of puns related to "Borden Grammar School"
I was abused by Mr Booth, the languages teacher (don't get too excited, mods, he's long dead). It now seems so weird that I can barely believe it happened, if it happened to anyone else or if anyone has any information about it please DM me (or leave a reply if you're up for it).
I don't care If I have to pay I'm sick of seeing red and blue squiggly Lines in every sentence. I love writing but it makes it so hard when I have to edit myself so often because I can't spell basic words.
Because I was dyslexic I fell behind fast and school kept going on without me so I had to to learn on the fly about language was picked up from what I saw with no understanding of the basics
I love creative writing but I just get frustrated when I try to do it because I spend so much time fixing misspellings or not even having a clue how to spell something so I go on Google and try to get close enough to get the right word in the recommendations and feeling embarrassed to share it because I have no Idea how to use commas or basic grammar that it feels like it turn out unreadable.
Please help I'm just sick of dealing with this and ready to fix this any help would be appreciated I no there's text to speech and grammarly but I don't want to use that as a crutch when I can just learn
Edit: thanks for I posted this before sleeping and now I have to go to work I'm going to read them but thanks for the help I didn't expect this much from Reddit
For context, Iβm currently in Y10.
Y4 - Learnt about the foetus at different stages of development
Y5 - Girls and boys split into different classrooms. Guest speakers came in. Learnt about puberty and labelled diagrams about the reproductive system. Guest speaker claimed that periods donβt hurt (LIES) and taught us about pads but not tampons or cups.
Y6 - Teacher did a PowerPoint on love and then emotionlessly read out something along the lines of βBlood goes to the penis, making it hard. It is inserted into the vagina, and semen moves through the urethra (of the penis) into the womb. It joins with the egg, which eventually becomes a babyβ
Y7 - In science, we re-did a lot of the Y5 topics. Learnt βovulation occurs at day 14β, etc. Teacher claimed that the actual bleeding only lasted one day
Y8 - In PHSCE, we watched the Cup of Tea consent video
Y9 - Watched the Cup of Tea content video again
Y10 - Learnt about the hormones in the menstrual cycle, IVF (this was solely a research/homework task), and about different methods of birth control. We didnβt actually learn how to use the different methods, and we didnβt learn about EC.
ETA: Only kids who picked Biology for GCSE learnt the Y10 topics
Sorry in advance if this sounds like a potato question. I grew up in Wisconsin, and have lived in Oak Park for the past 15 years.
I work Downtown, and most of my coworkers in my department grew up in Chicago and attended CPS. Iβve noticed all of them talk about βgrammar schoolβ and βhigh school.β Everyone ranges in age from early 20s to early 40s, from different ethic backgrounds, and grew up in different parts of the city, north side and south side. One day, I was eating lunch with a coworker friend (who grew up attending CPS) and asked her about βgrammar school.β She explained that CPS doesnβt have middle schools. K-8th grade is grammar school, and 9-12 grade is high school.
My grandma grew up in Chicago and went to grammar & high school through CPS, but I figured she used those terms because of her age. She grew up during the Great Depression and WWII. Growing up in WI, I went to elementary (K-5), middle (6-8), and high school (9-12). I guess I assumed (foolishly) that this type of structure was the norm for all public schools.
So, Iβm wondering if the grammar school / high school thing is true for all of CPS. Are/were there any middle or junior high schools in Chicago? For those who grew up here and attended CPS, please enlighten this ignorant Wisconsinite!
Title. I understand that cultural/ environmental influence play a large part in language, but how do teachers instruct their students to talk?
An example:
A first grade class room had the word "water" as a vocabulary word. Does the teacher give an example of the word and say "wa-ah" or "water"? How does this affect pronunciation?
iβve never truly understood how people from lldm think. iβm not sure if this is just my mom but i havenβt been allowed to go to school recently due to the rising of covid cases and my mom doesnβt want me to get sick which is totally understandable. The thing is iβm missing school because she has a big fear of me getting sick but yet she has no problem at all taking me to church like make it make sense. At church many people are not vaccinated and donβt even wear their masks properly.Thatβs because the pastor is high risk for covid since heβs a older man and has medical problems.I donβt know how this makes sense to her but it does.Iβm failing school now because iβve missed so much and iβm miserable right now.
Iβm not trying to cheat on my grammar (my professors probably wouldnβt let me haha), but I guess you could say Iβm a little LFG-curious.
Hola, me llamo James. ViajΓ© a Ecuador. SΓ© que el tiempo en el invierno es caluroso. Me siento feliz porque estΓ‘ ahora en mi paΓs.
I was a complete fish out of water. I came from a more working class background, but I scored really high on my 11+ exams (itβs basically an exam that determines if you can go to a grammar school or if you have to go to a regular comprehensive school), and I qualified for the gifted and talented scheme and found myself in an all boys grammar school, where 99% of my friends were posh, prim and proper, elites (sons of doctors, solicitors, local politicians, that kinda thing).
In my final two years my parents moved house and the school was too far, so I completed my final couple of years in a comprehensive school, where I was again a fish out of water having gone from 4 years of posh boys to a mixed school where students were more of a working class background.
AMA!
Iβm with Melvin Bragg here - not only did they give working class children the qualifications to go on to further education, but they also gave them the aspiration, formally the preserve of the middle classes, to join the profession classes.
Although the tripartite system was only introduced in the 1944 Education Act, in reality grammar schools had existed well before then, but they were not necessarily free, which was an obstacle for many working class children. Both my father in law and my mother passed their 11+, in 1928 and 1930 respectively, but neither were allowed to take up their place in grammar school. It was only after the 1944 act that education became free for 14+ pupils.
How many families then had the first person to go to university over the next few decades?
(NB This question is absolutely not intended to wind up Brian. π)
Hello all! I wanted to discuss my/our thoughts on the trial transcript of Lizzie Borden, at the trial of the murders of her father and step mother.
The transcript from the trial itself can be found here: https://lizzieandrewborden.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/TrialBorden1.pdf β
Iβve had my own opinions on this case, and after reading the transcript, theyβve begun to shift. Please keep in mind that this testimony was a mere week after the murders.
Inquest Transcript of Lizzieβs Testimony
Now, I get the witnesses can be unreliable, or get their statements twisted⦠but Lizzie seems to be doing a lot of misstepping, backtracking, and holds a lot of confusion around her own statements.
For example, she claims she went to the barn to find lead sinkers for her upcoming fishing trip. She goes on to say that the farm she plans to fish at and holds her equipment already has lines, rods, andβ¦ sinkers. The lawyer proceeds to question her on why she would need a sinker if theyβre already there. She seems thrown off by this, and goes on to say that she doesnβt know if sinkers are at the farm, and she wanted to search the barn, upstairs, for themβ¦ so she doesnβt need to buy any if she already has them. This seems fair enough. But, her trip isnβt until the following Monday, and she happens to be in the stifling hot barn exactly the time of the murder of her father, on Thursday prior. Does Lizzie need 20 minutes in the barn searching a small box for sinkers, days prior to her trip, while feeling ill? The lawyer is stuck on this point. He says it theoretically shouldnβt take more than 3-4 minutes. She claims she spent some of that time eating pears. The lawyer wants to know why are you eating pears when you were too sick for breakfast? She backtracks a lot here, regarding whether she ate breakfast. First, it was a firm no. Then, she said she might have eaten some molasses cookies. When questioned why she felt well enough to eat three pears, but says she firmly declined breakfast, she doesnβt seem to have an answer.
She backtracks about her Wednesday evening dinner, and whether she was even there for

Nick was too strong of a mage to simply die. He had some of the most powerful weapons and armor and the most powerful enchantments. He had entered the catacombs thousands of times and each time he emerged untouched. Some new evil must have been made by the Lord of evil. Some new threat that had to be killed as soon as possible. I knew that I needed to be cautious about my next move to find Nick so I enlisted the only other person of equal power. Peter is also known as the king of the catacombs. His track record was second only to Nicks and equal to mine and he had the perfect abilities I needed to find Nick. he was a tank dungeoneer with armor that made him near unkillable. His Armor could absorb the damage I took and put it on to him and because he is a tank it will not hurt him. Together I knew we could take on whatever new evil was in store for the adventurers. We met with Mort the Strongest mortal to live who guards the entrance to all floors of the catacombs to enter the floor Nick had entered. We entered the floor Nick had and we immediately knew something was wrong everything in there was ten times stronger. We could still clear entire rooms within minutes but we knew whatever lies ahead could be the death of us. The dungeon rooms had more and more creatures of darkness. Crypt lurkers who will eat you alive and skeleton soldiers who shoot you until you are no more than a pile of arrows. And worst of all Lost Adventures is what we called them. Adventures that had lost themselves to greed. They lost everything in the hopes of everything. Driven mad by the thought, they now guard the catacombs killing anything that comes their way. They were the number one killers of young adventurers hoping to make the world a better place by ending the evils of the world. To more experienced dungeoneers like Peter Nick and I, they were merely an inconvenience to our path through the catacombs, an Inconvenience to our path to Nick. After several hours of exploring we saw something, we have never seen before. A blood-red door. Normally the doors to other rooms through the catacombs are black. We call them Wither doors. You cant get through unless you kill the enemy with the wither key and only then can you progress through the catacombs. But once we saw that blood-red door we knew thatβs where Nick had to be hid

But thatβs what happened on the latest episode of βConan OβBrien Needs a Fan.β A 19th-century double hatchet murder isnβt exactly a feel-good story but it made for a great show. Conan, as we all know, can make anything funny. What a treat for this lifelong fan to talk about my hometownβs claim to fame (or infamy) with my comedy hero! He seemed pretty serious about doing an episode from the house where the murders happened (now a museum where I work as a guide), so Iβm going to hold him to his word! He also said heβd dress up in a hoop skirt, so Iβll hold him to that as well β for all of us! Coco was everything youβd want him to be and his whole team made this an exceedingly easy and pleasant experience from start to finish. Iβm so grateful for the opportunity. And I hope you enjoy the podcast.
Conan wants to record his podcast at the Lizzie Borden House
Conan was awesome with me for a half-hour straight. He interviewed me for the latest episode of Conan Needs a Fan. I work as a guide at the house where Lizzie Borden was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with a hatchet in 1892. I had a feeling Conan would be interested in the case but had no idea how into it he was until we talked. It was surreal, to say the least, going back and forth with him about what I do and where I live. He sounded serious about podcasting from the house, too, so I am planning to hold him to it! Thanks, Conan and team, for giving me the experience of a lifetime. I wonβt believe itβs over just yetβ¦ Conan has to come meet the Bordens now. ;) Conan wants to podcast from Lizzie Borden House
It doesnβt qualify for 2800 credit, but Iβm wondering if I could take 3110 anyway. How hard a prerequisite for 3110 is 2800, if Iβve taken discrete math?
Do not crucify me on here. Iβm just asking.
Do you ever skip teaching certain grammar because you find it pointless? Or Do you teach whatever your district tells you?
