A list of puns related to "Boiler Related"
Hes coming back to finish the job today.
is there a diagram describing where grimm's propeller blade find was relative to the boilers?
there is ongoing discussion/argument on ET about whether a blade broke. Passenger/crew reports indicate it was possible (including from people who had felt when Olympic lost a blade just prior). the wreck photos would not show the blade (if present, it is buried), but the bolts from the mount are not visible, and the blade mount bolts should be partly visible. extant images are less precise than would be ideal on this since I think a very close shot of the area in question would resolve if the bolts are present. the bolts being present would not preclude losing the blade (there is a photo of olympic's propeller short a blade but with the mount still in place), and i don't actually know if the mounts could break off rather than just the blade.
to my eye, I don't think the bolts are still there, but enough rustcicles are present to leave the matter in doubt, at least to naked eye imagery. (perhaps someone with skills in image manipulation might reveal detail that addressed the issue more conclusively)
One poster (aaron) points this out in detail, and some disagree, some ignore the mount bolts and just say the blade is buried (which no one disagrees it would be if it is present, though sediment appears undisturbed along the 3rd blades track, unlike the blade on the 'right' in most pictures.), and some say could be either way.
What i don't recall seeing discussed is if the Grimm find is consistent with how Titanic might have drifted between impact and break-up. Grimm later stated that the Ballard expedition started from the propeller area in order to locate the wreck.
Right then 125 took a bit longer than expected but in my defense, I was too drunk to write my name for most of the weekend. Now though I have gotten for you chapter 125 of this odd little story... that just keeps getting bigger. I'm sure it will somehow shrink back down after this one.
Anywho, remember to give thanks to our amazing two editors, and let's get on with the show.

Chapter 125: Fire In The Hole!

It hadnβt even taken a week before they received word that the enchantments had been cracked. Apparently, Linkostaβs little team was quite productive, possibly fueled by having the prize right in front of them. It managed to fit their schedule rather well too, Tom having just finished whipping up the elusive shaped-charges. Getting the boom powder to hold its shape had been a little tricky, but when Glira swung by for a check-up Tom had a little consultation with Twitch and they got the mix right. A tiny amount of oil and some animal fat being added to the boom powder resulted in something that at least held its shape rather well until it got too hot. Twitch claimed it was like a safety feature: if it melted you should be worried.
Sapphire wasnβt quite sure how she had ended up being the one to light the fuses, but at least Jacky had lent Saph her ear defenders for the actual blast. It was only Tom, Saph, Jacky, and a few members of Gliraβs crew down here right now preparing the charges. Everyone else is way further up the tunnel. Saph and Twitch were supposed to be Tomβs assistants as he worked his dangerous and volatile magic. The boys had retreated out of the room, leaving her with the job of lighting the fuses. The fact that Tom had said a βminute-ishβ didnβt exactly inspire confidence and judging by how far the others had retreated down

I know that I, like many of you, have added a bunch a wrinkles since January thanks to many of the brilliant Apes writing DD and the Silverbacks coming and doing AMAs and I'm hoping that you, like me, never get tired of adding more. Since there seems to be a little bit of a misunderstanding about what a margin call actually is, I thought it would be good to provide some clarification and add a few more wrinkles to all of our smooth brains.
Also, if you're looking for a way to pass the time while waiting for the MOASS, I suggest reading through https://www.investopedia.com/. There's seriously a ton of ELIA information about investing and the market. This is of course after you catch-up on any of the AMAs, Dr. T's book, and the essential market related movies (MARGIN CALL, The Big Short, The Wall Street Conspiracy, Boiler Room, Wolf of Wall Street, etc.)
Now for what you came here for:
Generic definition: "A margin call is a request for additional collateral when a trader's position or investment drops in value."
This is more of a description of how it works between a retail investor and broker but the principle is the same:

... keep reading on reddit β‘Tl;dr: fire department had to come, said we had a hoarding situation. Time crunch to clean, wife upset, hole in the pit of my stomach
I posted last week about how proud I was to have cleaned up a bit for my parents to see my apartment. How it was still cluttered but felt manageable. I have some days off work so my wife and I made a plan to work on it this week and get it finished.
Well, this afternoon the fire alarm in the boiler room (off our bedroom) went off. I thought it was a CO detector and freaked out. My dad called the fire department, who came to check it out. The guy who came told us that our living space would be considered a hoarding situation, and that he would need to refer us to the hoarding task force. He said if we got a dumpster by Friday he would hold off on filing the report.
My parents are very graciously paying for the dumpster, as well as storage bins and a new bed to replace the old ones weβve been sleeping on (two hand me down doubles pushed together, my wife and I havenβt been able to sleep together in five years). My mom is coming down tomorrow morning to help.
On the one hand, Iβm relieved. This is a problem thatβs gotten completely out of my control. On the other hand, my wife is furious with me because she feels like she is being judged and punished for being so sick for so long and doesnβt seem to understand why the fire department had a problem.
Iβm a hoarder but I realized today my wife is as well. I understand why; sheβs had a lot of trauma related to losing precious mementos and her family discarding her and her things. I get where sheβs coming from, but all I can think about is how great itβs going to be when itβs done. When I have space to do art again, when Iβm able to have a nice bed to sleep in. Less to dust, less to keep up with.
Iβve been crying uncontrollably since this happened a few hours ago and I guess I could just use some support. Thanks everyone, Iβm glad youβre here.
Greetings! Like many of you, I have been invested in the stonk we like and have been taking in the DD and memes here for months now. Throughout that time, in numerous posts along the way, I've come across dozens of documentaries, movies and lectures that I've found educational and edifying in many respects. I thought the sub might appreciate a comprehensive, unified list of notable titles along with brief descriptions and links to production information and trailers. This is not a definitive list, of course, but I have tried to be thorough. Many of the titles listed are well known and regularly referenced in the sub. Others are a bit more obscure but nevertheless relevant.
Below you'll find informative documentaries that cover the stock market and regulatory issues as well as economics, central banking and related sociocultural observations. There are also lectures that gained attention when DD and AMAs recommended them, followed by lists of major motion pictures and TV series. Lower down, in the spirit of the sub, several more apecentric entries are also included along with a few video game documentaries.
Let's go!

Go post NSFW jokes somewhere else. If I can't tell my kids this joke, then it is not a DAD JOKE.
If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.
Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???
Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
Thank you,
A Dad.

I am currently in the hospital. I had a back operation yesterday. The surgical nurse came in my room and started asking questions about my back. She asked me if I had any falls during the last year. I responded just one. It was after summer.
She laughed and said in 20 years of doing this she never was told that joke.

Now that home inspections using a professional is frowned upon in this sellers market and probably the offer will ignored if a condition for inspection is put. As a FTHB, what are some tips for visual self home inspection ?
Some that I found googling and in other subs are below. I know some are very pessimistic, but this is the biggest financial decision and I got only 15-30 minutes for it.

So I came to this sub after my (2nd!) Breville Oracle started dying. Iβm able to keep the thing running probably through the end of the year after replacing some o rings on the steam boiler but the internal damage is so extensive that I doubt Iβll get longer than that.
I feel like Iβm ready to take a step up in my coffee game and have some time to plan out my replacement setup.
For me, I want a grinder and machine setup that will last, but that I wonβt feel like Iβm leaving any performance on the table, and one that I will grow into rather than want to upgrade in a couple years.
Whatβs important to me is:
ControlΒ - I'm a mere plebian, a coffee dunce if you will, I understand the fundamentals but will probably mess up a few more hundred pucks till I figure out what needs tweaked when. But when I do learn, I want to be able to fiddle and not feel limited.
Space - we're apartment dwellers and countertop space is a premium. Though we like to keep moves down to a minimum, they do happen and so lugging 40kg stainless steel beasts isn't ideal.
Reliability - I've had bad experiences with the Breville dual boiler setups (both of which have only lasted 18-24 months a piece). I don't mind performing maintenance, but I'd prefer to get longevity and hopefully a unit that is easy to work with if anything goes awry.
Easy of use for the uninitiated - I enjoy the tinkering process and finding what works for a different bean, my wife does not. I'd like a setup where I can dial in the correct profile and grind, but my wife can come along, grind some beans tamp and click a button.
So far I've identified a setup that I think makes sense for us but want to confirm with the group.
Grinder: Lagom P64 - Is relatively small, single dose, gets good reviews, SSP burrs well manufactured.
Runner up grinder: DF64 with SSP burrs - though apparently has issues with retention and the declumping.
Runner runner up grinder: NZ - small, looks great, headache to get, still pretty pricey (750), low retention but untested motor longevity, popcorning.
Espresso machine: Decent DE1+ XL- Small machine, immense amount of customization, ability to create a profile that wife could reuse. Serious concerns about maintenance and longevity with a very tech driven machine.
Runner up: Profitec 700 - can pull great shots, E61 group, solid manufacturer and longevity/reliability. A lot more analogue, is very bulky. Questionable as to whether the wife (or I) could consistently pull good shots and k

Martin Freeman, and Andy Serkis.
They also play roles in Lord of the Rings.
I guess that makes them the Tolkien white guys.
There aren't enough movies about this kind of stuff, Wolf of Wall Street, Boiler Room to name a few are classics in my book, and can give some real insight on how life in the business world can be manipulated. It's more relatable than the Generic Mafia Movie part 6.

Is it ironic that I got this image from Nintendo of Europe's web page?
Code Name S.T.E.A.M. (Called STEAM for most of this review out of laziness) is a 2015 3DS game set in a Steampunk 1800s, in which Abraham Lincoln fakes his own death in order to lead a team of fictional characters from American literature, from Ozβs Tin Man (reimagined in samurai style) to Peter Panβs Tiger Lily, and of course everyoneβs favorite American literature character, Lucina from Spider Man. Their goal? Why, saving the earth from an invasion of Lovecraftian Aliens, of course. Occasionally, Honest Abe involves himself directly in the fight by piloting a giant steampunk mech to punch out Cthulu himself.
Yes, the mech is shaped like Lincoln himself, did you really have to ask?
β¦
β¦So, uhβ¦
β¦Why the hell are you still here? Go buy the game already, holy shit, did you not READ what I just wrote? The only thing more insane than this game, is the fact that itβs only been 6 years and itβs already forgotten. Nobody bought it, nobody ever talks about it. Fire Emblem Fates came out only 2 months later in Japan, and nobody will shut the fuck up about that game.
Well, leaving STEAMβs unfortunate fate as a discussion for the end of this reviewtrospective, Iβm going to do my damndest here to explain to you why youβre an absolute donkey for not having played this game for half a dozen years.
STEAM is a 3rd-person strategy game where you control 4 out of a roster of 12 agents, each with unique weapons and abilities. Think Valkyria Chronicles but steampunk, if that means anything to you, and youβre in the right ballpark. The steampunk setting is baked into the gameβs design, as moving and firing your gun both cost steam. Each turn, everyone regains some steam, and itβs up to you how to spend it. If you end a turn with enough left over, certain guns can perform overwatch attacks on the enemyβs turn, dealing damage to aliens as they scurry out from corners that kept them safe from attack on your turn, a

This happened a few years ago when my son was 6ish. When my kids hurt themselves and it doesnβt look serious I always do the βwe might have to amputate that bruised handβ shtick with them. Iβve done it enough that they now roll their eyes.
So, my son got hit lightly in the face with a rubber ball. It wasnβt a hard hit and I could tell he was more upset by the shock of it rather than the pain. So I say βlooks like we will have to amputate your nose.β To which he replies βthen how will I smell?β And I say βterrible!β
It was my greatest dad joke ever. I felt like I could retire after that.
