Hello, FGers. The weekly thread is here.
Previous fortnight for me:
Liar Liar (1997, Tom Shadyac) :
SECOND VIEWING
On my first viewing I had found Carrey to be too manic and the court scenes too unrealistic. But this time I watched it with a more open mind and was able to appreciate Carrey's acting more. But I still hated John Debney's score.
6/10 (Up from 5/10)
Bruce Almighty (2003, Tom Shadyac) :
SECOND VIEWING
By now Carrey's schtick was wearing thin and even he was tired doing it. He is mostly on autopilot on this one, letting the special effects and the heavy-handed message take over in his stead.
4/10 (Down from 5/10)
Cocktail (1988, Roger Donaldson) :
In 1988, Cruise starred in Rain Man. That film won the Oscar for Best Picture and broke the bank. The same year he also starred in Cocktail. That film won the Razzie for Worst Picture... but also broke the bank.
I guess the combination of Tom Cruise's star power and his along with the film's popularity among women was enough to make it a success. Seen today, it's just a bad melodrama. It's not even ironically entertaining like Mommie Dearest or The Room. Its worst folly is that it is a largely boring story about a young man who aspires to make it big as a businessman and ends up opening a bar, learning a few life lessons along the way.
3/10
Cadillac Man (1990, Roger Donaldson) :
After one disappointment from Donaldson, came this very god and underrated gem. Robin Williams is in front and centre in its entirety and carries the whole film over safely like a boss. I haven't seen many films of Williams but I think I should start now. Many people have problems with how the film's the first act is very different from the main story line but I did

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
On this Memorial Monday for January 10th, 2022, we remember two legends who passed a day from each other, Peter Bogdanovich and Sidney Poitier, by celebrating them with laughs from comedies each directed. Unfortunately, just before the show we also lost Bob Saget, so we're going to include a comedy that he directed as well, which stars the late Norm Macdonald who passed away last September, and Saget's first TV appearance which stars the late Peter Scolari who passed away last October.
Bogdanovich, a respected director, writer, and journalist, got his start behind the camera thanks to a chance encounter with Roger Corman at a movie premiere which led to the Corman school of shoveling smart people into production roles, in this case quickly turning into directing. Through his filmmaking and his writing, he would help usher in New Hollywood while reminding audiences not to let go of Old Hollywood, becoming a champion of classic cinema, including our first feature which rebirthed the screwball comedy for a whole new generation
Poitier, the first black man to win a competitive Oscar, was born in Miami unexpectedly and prematurely to visiting Bahamian farmers, he worked his way up from an illiterate teen dishwasher to some of the most powerful roles ever portrayed on the big screen. Considered one of the most respected film actors of all time, Sidney eventually turned his eye towards directing as well with a handful of movies, one of which is our second feature of the night, a comedy starring some of the biggest black names in movies of its era, including Poitier, Bill Cosby, Harry Belafonte, Flip Wilson, Rosalin Cash, and Richard Pryor; the film would spawn two more spiritual sequels, and Poitier would direct Cosby in several more features, including Ghost Dad.
(Interesting aside: Bogdanovich directed Poitier in the mid '90s, a TV-movie sequel of To Sir, With Love, but it's considered a lesser effort and doesn't fit with our night's comedy theme.)
Saget was not just a comic's comic, a saccharine sitcom dad, and a beloved TV presenter, but also a filmmaker, and of course a dear friend to many in the stand-up community. After getting his bachelors in film from Temple, he started making short films and working as warm-up comic for the TV series Bosom Buddies, produced by Thomas Miller and Robert Boyett, who put him into an episode (which we'll be screening at the end of the night) and would eventually want him again 6 years later as the widower dad for their

The director, who died at 82 on Thursday, was a master craftsman who used his wealth of film knowledge to create singular hybrids of the old and new
βComedy has to be built carefully,β Peter Bogdanovich told Vultureβs Bilge Ebiri in 2018. At his best, the New Yorkβborn filmmaker was a master craftsman, drawing on his love and knowledge of classic Hollywood style and conventions to create hybrids of the old and new. In a rollicking road movie like Paper Moon, about an experienced con man who takes a preteen apprentice on a cross-country odyssey, every moment feels familiar yet bereft of clichΓ©; Bogdanovich didnβt just know how the comic mechanisms worked, but also how to keep them purring just below the surface. While rarely lumped in with the generation that reinvented Hollywood in the 1970s, Bogdanovichβs love of old genresβespecially screwball comedies and musicalsβyielded the same sort of postmodern pleasures as Francis Ford Coppolaβs updating of gangster picture myths in The Godfather. (To wit: If Bogdanovich is to be believed, he was offered the adaptation of Mario Puzoβs novel first.)
Bogdanovich was a raconteur and a gossipβin addition to the sterling books of film criticism he published during his 20s, he wrote and directed numerous behind-the-scenes books, articles, and documentaries, appearing in most as a vivid, polarizing character in his own right. Always good for a quote and gifted at intertwining narcissism with self-deprecation, he dined out on his β70s successes while also owning the commercial failures (Saint Jack, They All Laughed) that led to his declaring bankruptcy by the mid-β80s. In time, there would be comebacks for this compelling fallen figureβretrospectives and late triumphs, including a killer recurring guest role on The Sopranos and the release of his friend and hero Orson Wellesβs long-unfinished The Other Side of the Wind, a movie in which Bogdanovich brilliantly played a version of himself. He leaves behind not only several classics but a wide, varied, and almost uniformly idiosyncratic body of workβmovies, performances, essays, books, and one-liners. Hereβs our attempt at a Peter Bogdanovich syllabus.
The Wild Angels (1966)
As a young film critic, Bogdanovich hooked up with B-movie maestro Roger Corman, whose mercenary showmanship belied a similar appreciation for auteurism and aesthetics. (Among other things,

Thrown into the center of the political universe in 2020, Georgia is set to remain there in 2022 and beyond. After the state narrowly voted for Biden and Democrats just weeks later flipped both Senate seats β giving Democrats control of the chamber β Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp now faces both a serious Democratic challenger as well as one from within his own party.
Arizona
Republican Kari Lake, a former newscaster, secured Trumpβs early endorsement and leads the GOP field to succeed term-limited Gov. Doug Ducey. While Lake leads, she has not cleared the GOP field, which includes state Treasurer Kimberly Yee and former Rep. Matt Salmon.
Michigan
Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer won in a landslide in 2018, and she developed a national profile as her stringent coronavirus policies led her to become a frequent target of Trump. In particular,Β Whitmerβs personal violations of her own public health policies have made her a top GOP target since she took office.
The leading Republican challenger is retired Detroit police chief James Craig, but the GOP field is far from settled. Wealthy businessman Kevin Rinke recently announced a bid and has the ability to self-fund his campaign, and Trump-tied Tudor Dixon is also running, though both are polling behind Craig.
Wisconsin
Democratic Gov. Tony Evers denied former Republican Gov. Scott Walker a third term in 2018, but the Republican state legislature moved almost immediately to limit his powers. Eversβ reelection effort may be close in a state that Biden won by just over 20,000 votes in 2020, while the Badger State also features a Senate race that could decide control of the 50-50 chamber.
Republican Rebecca Kleefish, Walkerβs lieutenant governor, has emerged as an early frontrunner, but the eventual nominee is far from decided. Kevin Nicholson, who briefly tried to oust Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin in 2018, also may run, and while Trump has reportedly [urged

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π

Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments

Nothing, he was gladiator.
Or would that be too forward thinking?
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
What did 0 say to 8 ?
" Nice Belt "
So What did 3 say to 8 ?
