I wanted to have a discussion / put my thoughts down about this Wyatt / Orton / Bliss angle. To my mind it hasn't had nearly the respect it deserves given its ambition and scope. It's my position that this is one of the most experimental stories WWE has to offer and has successfully addressed a number of complaints often levied at WWE's programming.
To start with (and I hate this word in fandoms, but...) "lore". Wyatt's commitment to an advanced level of characterisation and world building has meant that the current Orton feud ties back to 2017. WWE is constantly being criticised for not "doing the little things" or long term storytelling, yet here is a feud that is 4 years old and has survived multiple incarnations of WWE and Wyatt.
In burning...whatever was under the Wyatt shack back in 2017, Orton contributed to Wyatt's fantastical, paranormal gimmick. WWE have been doing paranormal gimmicks since Undertaker was a thing. And at times they are awful. Over exposed, silly and embarassing. Other times they add a layer of entertainment and horror-lite that suits the medium really well. In catalysing Wyatt's transformation (and ditching his over exposed rambling swamp wizard persona), the first Orton feud revitalised Wyatt. It did the same for Randy.
Orton is often accused of being boring. King of the rest holds, he's had whole years of phoning it in. Yet when given Wyatt storylines he excels. A great opponent, an obsession with fire and a chance to ham it up ever so slightly always makes The Viper a compelling on screen presence. He's willing to try anything - including wrestling under a projector showing bugs. It doesn't always land, but it does so more than normal. The Wyatt mythology is really beneficial to Orton and allows him to grow.
And then to Alexa. What to do with the woman who has done everything? Who the online crowd yell is overexposed, not good in the ring (an outright lie) and overbooked? Taking her out of circulation for a year, having her go horror and be the person Orton is feuding with is new, and brave. It let's the Fiend character rest, the story has given us consequences (he was actually burned) and allowed the Fiend to be anticipated again. There's a fun dynamic at play with her being an attractive woman, too. Elsewhere some fans have predictably got too excited about it, but there's a new twist to the taunting and teasing that keeps the story going.
And finally - let's look at what WWE are presenting with a straight face here:
