Obviously the right to re-record her albums was negotiated in her early contracts. We know when she decided to share with the world she was re-recording, but when do you think that decision was made privately? Would she have done it if she stayed at BMR? Would she have been allowed to? She’s been a champion for artists owning their own work for longer than her feud with Scooter, right?
As many of you may know, JoJo spent forever in record label limbo, unable to formally release and sell her music while she was still signed to Blackground Records, so she was forced to go ten years without an album release (between 2006's The High Road and 2016's Mad Love). Blackground Records hadn't ever made The High Road or 2004's JoJo available on music services, so in 2018 she re-recorded and re-released both of them (then Blackground eventually did release the originals).
My question is, what about the music she released in that decade-long interim? That I can recall, she put out at least two EPs, two mixtapes, and a handful of singles, but none of these are on Spotify (or other music services, I assume). The mixtapes were released for free while she was still signed to Blackground, but the EPs were from her time with Atlantic Records, so I don't understand why any of that isn't available on streaming services. Does anyone know why this is?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
