I replied to a thread about storylines the series never followed up on and that made me wanna do a list of every final appearance for every major character in the series because, holy crap, we haven't seen some in many MANY years. I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Curious what people think of it! I watched it on BBC One a few weeks back, thought it was... okay? Took me a while to get into it - it's got this non-linear structure which is unnecessarily complex (it's cutting between "then" and "now", essentially, but they dress it up a bit with the dates so it takes a moment to actually clock that), and the pacing is pretty slow at first, but it shifts into gear pretty well from the fourth episode. (I wrote a longer review, if anyone's interested, comparing it to HBO's The Investigation.)

Didn't really see many people talking about it though while it was on, so I was wondering what the consensus was shaping up to be now Netflix has it?

The town of Cominstay, Florida was built on rum, cocaine, and stolen Native American land.

Technically though, we didn’t steal it from the Native Americans. We stole it from the Cubans, who took it from the Spaniards who originally, almost 500 years ago, had raped and pillaged and scorched the Earth of the native population from the small, backwoods corner of Florida that we eventually made our home.

“Home,” being a backwater, dirt-encrusted, kicked stray dog of a town. Cominstay had a population of less than 5,000 people; and consisted of a couple of trailer parks, a few diners and dive bars scattered about, and a downtown that had a couple stripmalls filled with pawn shops, beauty shops, and Cash 4 Gold places. There’s also a Motel 6 on the edge of town where the cleanest thing there are the roaches.

Me and my rat-scrabbling family were part of that population of 3,500. My dad dipped a while back, whether he was still out buying cigarettes or was actually in the belly of the crocodiles that lived in the swamps that surrounded this town remains to be seen, but that just left my mom, in our family’s trailer, raisin’ all six of us.

Understandably, I moved out as soon as I could.

But, not technically “on my own.” My cousin Mikey had a spare bed in the one-bedroom Motel 6 suite that he was renting at a discounted rate due to an understanding with the manager. I ended up movin’ in with him, which led to me witnessing the understanding every night, several times a night. Wink, wink. Nudge, nudge.

I’d like to point out that the manager of this particular Motel 6 was my second-cousin, Patricia Bernard. And Patricia Bernard was Mikey Bernard’s first-cousin.

So, yeah. I wasn’t home a lot.

Growing up, I had only two friends. Eliette and Adam were twins, and were inseparable. Both had fiery red hair, both with tanned almond skin, dark, dark eyes, and both have lived with their grandparents in the spit-and-mud shack at the very edge of town, right next to the swamp, since they were babies.
