A list of puns related to "Big Six Auditors"
Hey all,
I need your help / opinions with a few things that are going through my mind these days about how I want to spend the next 30 years of my working life. I am based in NYC, I work for a big 4 firm in audit, mostly auditing private equity firms. I will be making Manager in a few months.
When I was younger and naive and starting at the firm, I opted to work in the "finance" sector within my audit firm's practice instead of commercial, thinking within a year or 2 I will try to transition towards investment banking (lol). Somehow I got lost trying to get better at my audit job, and 3-4 years down the line just got exhausted and burnt out working all the time auditing private equity shops. Over these years, I realized how much I despise finance bros / wannabe investment bankers / even accountants working at private equity firms, hedge funds or investment banks due to how little work life balance anyone working at such organizations get if they make over 150K a year. I also started to realize that people in NYC work harder than most other American cities, and while the younger, stupid me would be like "yeah brah work hard play hard", I am trying to avoid the hustle culture now that I am soon to turn 30 and am married and looking to start a family.
So I really have two questions for you guys:

Orange Man Audit
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hello. I occasionally see accountants/auditors inquiring about TAS and CFA as a way to break into a more finance oriented position, so I thought I'd do an AMA. My background is below.
About me: I am a CPA and former auditor at a Big 4 firm. I currently work as an associate in transaction advisory at a mid-sized firm. I will be taking the CFA Level III exam in May 2022. I hope to leverage TAS and the CFA Program to break into asset management.
Happy to answer any questions relevant to my background.
I'm 21 (M) this year, long story short due to the pandemic and my studies, I wasn't able to get my car license as planned, but I'm already graduated and will be interviewed by most of the big and mid sized firms very soon
AFAIK sometimes auditors do require to travel so I wonder would this hinder my chance of being recruited?
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but the actuary subreddit seemed too serious. A bit of context, we both are gonna graduate and start our full-time soon, have been dating for 2 years, just kinda worried about how it's gonna be like and if it'll severely affect our relationship.
Rant: Should Canadian CPAs in industry pack their bags and restart as auditors for US Big Four in the Bay Area?
Starting salaries there are either almost $70K USD, or almost $75K USD.
Contrary to annual "CPA Profession Compensation Study Reports," the median of Canadian CPAs in industry (and in relevant job positions) make between $85K CAD and $95K CAD, even after years of post-designation experience.
[The Great Recession screwed a lot of people.]
I work in audit at Big 4 and got assigned to a Financial Services industry group, but I heard this is a specialized industry and Iβm worried I will be pigeonholed. I donβt want to work in financial services after leaving Big 4. How difficult would it be to find jobs in other industries? Is the experience transferable?
They gave a clean opinion. However the financial news didnβt mention that in their reporting.
https://ir.workhorse.com/sec-filings/annual-reports
They havenβt sold that many trucks in 2021. Their 2021 quarterly financials just wouldnβt have that much room for alleged fraud. Most importantly the annual reports didnβt have fraud. Therefore it would have to be in the quarterly reports. Itβs highly unlikely because Wkhs didnβt produce that many trucks. Lastly, there is no fraud indicated in the companyβs history. Therefore the short seller fuzzy panda allegations are highly unlikely.
Most likely company executives were excited. They probably said they were going to win a big chunk of the post office contract. Most likely the sec is investigating if they were too excited or confident about winning a contract. Like the rest of us we thought corruption wouldnβt get in the way of electrifying post office vehicles
It bemuses me how the press can report fake orders, many van breakdowns. In short, fraud!
The panda short report just has no merit. In other words itβs not news worthy. I eat more than just crayons. Grant Thornton wouldnβt miss such discrepancies nor risk itβs reputation.
The financial press had a journalistic duty to report there is no history of fraud as well as Grant Thorntonβs responsibility to detect fraud
This is the act of desperate people who think Wkhs investors are really filled with FUD!
Sure the company needs govt contracts and support. Tesla did. Itβs how you incubate an industry.
If journalists want to be taken seriously they should say the 3/1/21 annual report was a clean one. Only an issue on the value of convertible notes which is understandable. Itβs understandable because the company had an investment in ride
In other words they should have reported all the facts. Educated the public even. For instance Grant Thornton is responsible to report material events up to the report date. Which is 3/1/2021.
When I look at the bottom of my ticker news feed all I see is this bs.
Hi everyone
I started my career as an auditor at a big 4 firm in mid September, and I have no idea what I'm doing. I feel like I can only do basic tasks that have a prior year example that I can copy / paste. I feel like I'm not contributing anything to the team, or if I am, very little.
Also, unless my senior gives me an explicit thing to do, I have no idea what I should be working on on any given day. Like today, my senior just told me to go over some review notes they had for me, and after I got done with that I just sat there at my desk until the day was over.
Is this feeling of complete incompetence normal? How do people just know what they should be working on during the day?

... keep reading on reddit β‘Personally, I am leaning towards management/social impact consulting but wanted to know some of your goals.
Do people *still* believe that big 4 audit experience is not respected in T15?
Applying in R2 this year!
Hi there!
Was hoping to get some personal opinions on some fun marathon course alternatives to the Big Six, seeing that I unfortunately did not get into Berlin and the chances of getting into London are quite low.
What are your favourite marathon courses that you've traveled for? I'm from Canada and have a goal of running my first marathon this year and want to celebrate with a mini vacation afterwards.
Open to any and all suggestions, let's have it!
