What if the Berlin Crisis of 1961 evolved into a full scale war?
Which side would prevail? And would nukes be used immediately?

Why did President Kennedy negotiate secretly to resolve the Berlin crisis of 1961, and the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962?
I'm currently researching for my dissertation that is exploring the difference in Kennedy's public and private approaches to foreign policy during the Cuban Missile crisis. I have explored the reasonings behind why he maintained a determined public stance, and I hope to make a comparison of the secret negotiations to remove Jupiter missiles and the secret negotiations to resolve the Berlin crisis of 1961 to demonstrate Kennedy's private approaches to foreign policy.
I'm just wondering if anyone has any interesting comments as to why he pursued secret negotiations, and how significant his private diplomacy was in resolving the Cuban Missile Crisis. I feel like I've reached a mental block, and I'd love some opinions to inspire my research!
Thanks so much!

Let's say the crisis at Checkpoint Charlie in 1961 becomes a skirmish, leading to an invasion of either Germany by the winners of this skirmish. Who wins the "Second Battle of Berlin"?
Rules: No nuclear war
Conventional war that starts at Checkpoint Charlie and grows to become a front along ONLY the Berlin portion of the border
Basically, the Standoff in 1961 becomes a battle between tanks at Checkpoint Charlie (CC). After whatever happens at this spot, full on ground and air war breaks out all along the Berlin Wall, in Berlin. Both sides send everything they have, but no nuclear weapons will be used. Who gains ground, and based on soldier concentrations in East and West Europe, who wins the Second Battle of Berlin? Have fun with this.

[500x404]The Halifax is a British Royal Air Force four-engined heavy bomber of WW2.6,176 of them were built and funnily enough they retired completely long after ww2. The last use was in the Pakistani air force in 1961! The type was also used for commercial service and even for the Berlin airlift!

What is the socialist perspective on the Berlin Crisis of 1961?
Western sources seem to largely pin the blame on unnessary soviet ultimatums and agression but I am sure this is not the case. Any sourced discussion from the USSR perspective would be greatly appreciated!
