Pope Leo XI was only Pope for 27 days in 1605. He died e as a result of fatigue and cold in the ceremony of taking possession of the Basilica of St John Lateran on 17 April; he started suffering from a fever the next day. He was called Papa Lampo ("Lightning Pope") because his papacy was so short.

Is the Solemnity of the Nativity of St John the Baptist obligatory?
Hello Fathers,
Is today (The Nativity of St John the Baptist) mandatory in the U.S.? Also, what is considered and what constitutes a solemnity, a feast, a memorial, or a Holy Day of Obligation?
Edit: I also realized that memorials are also something we celebrate, but to my knowledge, there isnβt many of those.

TIL that the smallest European colony was the Fort of St. John the Baptist in Ouidah, Dahomey (modern day Benin). When the government of newly independent Dahomey annexed the fort in 1961, the last two residents tried to burn it down instead of surrendering it.

Feast of St. John the Baptist
Very important feast day today. Just wanted to remind you guys so that you may gain some spiritual benefit through recalling his life. Interesting point, I thought of today as I was reading about him is that his death should be an inspiration to the Church today. To often, as we have endlessly pointed out in this sub, the Church as an institution has failed to defend against the rising tide of sexual immorality. St. John the Baptist was imprisoned and beheaded mainly because he dared to call out the immorality of Herodβs marriage. St John the Baptist ora pro nobis!
