A list of puns related to "Ballarat Heritage Weekend"
#Commonwealth Party Leader, 12MaxWild whoβs party is known for a love of the British empire has made controversial Twitter comments today.

Today on Twitter in reply to the Member for Nicholls pledging to fund replacement heritage boomgates after the previous Lydiard Street North boom gates were destroyed in an accident, the Member for Brisbane Mr 12MaxWild stated that he βwill run a train through them again.β

This has been considered a threat of domestic terrorism by some individuals and demonstrates the far right nature of some people within the Commonwealth Party who seek to demolish our Victorian and Goldrush era heritage structures. The Member for Nicholls stated that this language βwas not acceptable and I condemn any threats of destroying our Goldrush heritage.β
This has come as a shock for many, as the Commonwealth Party and its leader have been considered huge fans of the British era architecture, with this Tweet coming as a shock.
Speaking with Soldiers Hill resident Mrs Barbara Woodstock who stated that βthe comments are entirely disrespectful and disregard the immense amounts of unique heritage we have in Ballarat and the central highlands as a whole. I hope that the Leader of the Commonwealth Party is ashamed of himself for threatening to destroy the boomgates.β
The original boomgates were some of the only ones of their kind in Australia and were destroyed last year on the 30th of May due to a signalling fault and human error. The replacement of the boomgates have been controversial with the Council and State Government disagreeing on the solution. With the Federal Member backing a return to the original heritage structure.
Whether the Member for Brisbane apologise for his comments remains to be seen.
So facebooks Ballarat news team was a sponsor organizer for the weekends take a back the Eureka flag, and canβt handle being called it as right wing for it. https://fb.watch/9KFJApYpqA/ got upset and blocked me quick for calling them out.
Sorry for the horrible sentence structure
Good Evening,
I am coming to see some family in Ballarat that I've not seen in roughly 25 years and do the Kyral Castle murder mystery night
I am looking for a few suggestions on a few things from you lovely locals
Thank you all in advance
Kirk
Hey all, I'm planning to visit Ballarat for a day or two. Is Sovereign Hill worth seeing if I'm going alone? It looks quite pricey and I'd have to stay overnight to leave enough time for it. Not sure if it's just a family-friendly thing?
Hello
I've been working in Ballarat for the last 6 months and my time here is coming to an end. Friends of mine are coming to visit me here for my last weekend and I was wondering if any of you had any ideas for things to do in and around Ballarat.
To give a bit of background, there will be nine of us, we have cars, we don't mind a drink (will probably bring them to the Mallow for one or two) and are all around 30 years of age. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Hi all
I live in Wodonga and the rental market here is depressingly crap atm⦠Overpriced, run down houses with little to nothing to offer. I moved here from Sydney 4 years ago and enjoy the country lifestyle, but our lease is up and we definitely need a change.
Weβve been looking at Ballarat since the rentals seem much cheaper, and you get a LOT nicer house for the price. Considering itβs only 1.5 hrs from Melbourne, it seems almost too good to be true. I feel like there must be some catch Iβm missing?
Iβm used to a country town being a bit quiet with not much going on, we usually travel down to melb for a weekend every 2-3 months to get our city fix, so Ballarat being quiet wouldnβt really bother us, just wondering if it has any other big cons besides just being a βregional townβ
For context, my partner and I are 31/33, both working fulltime (optical and IT) and like gaming, dnd, board games, going out to eat/drink/explore, movies, etc we are child free but i have lots of pets. I prefer to live somewhere safe, mostly quiet/chill but I like being only a 10-20 min drive from the town central when possible.
Thanks for any input!
BALLARAT COVID UPDATE |
Tuesday, January 4
NEW CASES: 99 (up from 48 yesterday)
ACTIVE CASES: 245 (up from 166 yesterday)
Ballarat has reported 99 new cases of COVID in the 24 hours to midnight Monday, more than double the number of cases the day before.
There are now 245 active cases across the city.
Of the 99 new cases:
57 are in 3350
5 are in 3351
15 are in 3352
9 are in 3355
11 are in 3356
1 is in 3357
The Moorabool Shire has seen a significant increase in new cases with 44 reported today.
The Golden Plains has also seen itβs highest number of daily cases in quite some time. Twelve new cases have been reported in the shire, which now has 34 active cases.
The Hepburn Shire has reported eight new cases while the Pyrenees Shire has reported two new infections.
It comes as Victoriaβs COVID testing system continues to buckle under the demand brought on by increasing COVID numbers, with many sites across the state closing just hours after opening because they have reached capacity.
Ballaratβs Creswick Road testing site is also closed today.
Just got turned away from Ballarat Base Hospital tonight with broken bones. Doctor came out and said they were at capacity and had a full line of Ambulances waiting. Not likely Covid related but still shows just how close ED numbers always are. Also to be fair I was told I could wait but after 6 hours waiting the thought of at least another 6 was not appealing.
Edit: went to St John of God next door.
Final edit. It's a fracture so not a full break so that's good news but still need surgery. Thanks for all the well wishes.
Greetings from Bendigo!
We are going local on our summer holiday, and are spending a week in Ballarat starting Monday. We are a family of four (two girls aged 10 and 7) and are planning on doing the usual big ticket items (Sovereign Hill, Wildlife Park, Kryal Castle). As locals, do you have any recommendations for anything perhaps less well known that is good for kids/families? Like playgrounds, pools, or anything else? Any family friendly eateries you would recommend (preferably with outdoor seating, with Covid in mind).
Many thanks in advance!
This one is in the California desert near Death Valley. An interesting mining town founded by an Aussie. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballarat,_California
Dentist appointment to remove painful surgical stitching just been cancelled, as they are unable to rapid test prior to entry. Is the local PCR testing centre providing the results same or next day? How have we got to this where these Covid rules are preventing treatment of unrelated health issues?
Thanks for the Covid Emoji whoever did that π
Just moved in and I was hoping any local experts in the gardening world (vegetables in particular) could help out with anything to look-out for or tips about growing in the region.
Anything to do with:
Many thanks :)
