A list of puns related to "Bajirao Mastani"
I just discovered the music video of Malhari. I am in love with the energy and passion of that scene.
But I don't know if the movie is a slow love story. Can someone tell me?
In Bajirao Mastani, Mastani's character is supposed to be Persian fair beauty. Why take Deepika, a dusky actress to play it and whiten her skin instead of taking fair actress. It is also problematic as they kinda tried to portray her better looking and more beautiful than Kashibai, Mastani's skin being fairer than dusky Kashibai. Colorism doesn't go just one way, it goes both ways meaning if making one face brown to show him less attractive is colorism, so does making one dusky face white to make them look beautiful. So when you call out out brown face, why remain quite on white-face?
Edit: forgot some movies: Ashoka, Mohenjo Daro, Padmaavat, Jodha Akbar.
Hi! The aforementioned movies I have seen, but I would love to see more like this! This is how I learn about the history of India - seeing these movies and looking up the inspirations. Would love to learn more!
I just saw Bajirao Mastani (yeah I'm late AF)
Saw Panipat and Tanhaji just yesterday..
As a Maharashtrian who was literally spoon fed Maratha history since childhood if I had to rate the performances it would be Ajay then Arjun and then Ranveer..
Dude was hamming throughout the war sequences and sounded nothing like a peshwa...just phoning random Marathi words in a weird accent into a dialogue dosent make it an accent...also WTF was that weird head shaking thing he was doing while speaking....
I might get a lot of flak for this..but yeah..it is what it is...
Not only Rajput, his then-girlfriend Ankita Lokhande was also offered an item song in Bajirao Mastani. A source close to the project informs this writer, “This was after Sushant said no to Bajirao Mastani. Mr Bhansali planned an elaborate lavni song-and-dance with Ankita Lokhande which was to come on prominently in the film. Mr Bhansali planned to give Anikta’s number prominence in spite of Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone in the cast.
So what went wrong? Apparently Bhansali wanted Ankita for a three-film deal which she refused to sign. Rather than sign another major actress to do the item number, SLB dropped the number from Bajirao Mastani when Ankita said no to it.

I saw a clip of the movie and was very surprised by the physics of it: https://youtu.be/1aU52iLvPr0?t=302
Sounds impossible with what I know of old metallurgy (this is the 18th century, after all), but I also know blades were somewhat flexible and lighter than we usually imagine.
I guess the answer might simply be "Bollywood", but it would be bizarre if it didn't have an explanation, since it obviously surprises people watching. Is this trying to represent some legend about the sword of the real Baji Rao? I know sometimes swords are given weird properties in legends (like the Zulfiqar of Ali). Or was there really some kind of Indian sword with blades so thin that it was more flexible than usual, and the movie just exaggerates that?
Edit: I have been informed that this weapon indeed existed, which surprises me since I hadn't found it in my googling and browsing Wikipedia about Baji Rao. I have now been alerted to the fact that if I had just googled "Indian flappy sword" it would have showed up in the results [insert facepalm].
So I refocus my question: was this kind of sword used in the times of Baji Rao? What was its prevalence and how would it be used in combat? Looks dangerous for those next to you in a formation. Was it effective at all compared with a regular (non-flappy) sword?
