A list of puns related to "Arthur Penn"
I've wanted the Two Friends to do more older directors in the stretch of the 60's and 70's and I have a feeling Arthur Penn would make a great miniseries.
His debut is a western starring Paul Newman as Billy the Kid. It wins the Grand Prix at the Belgian Film Critics Association.
He follows that up with The Miracle Worker, the Helen Keller biopic, and gets immediate success, scoring a Best Director nomination.
After that he makes Mickey One, a neo-noir with Warren Beatty, a critical flop, but has later been reevaluated.
Then comes the guarantor, Bonnie and Clyde, one of the most important films of all time. He gets his second Best Director nomination. He's now free to cash those checks.
His first check is an adaptation of a Arlo Guthrie song, Alice's Restaurant, and he gets another Best Director nomination, his third overall.
He makes the revisionist western epic Little Big Man next and then the seedy underrated Night Moves.
Then his big bounce comes with The Missouri Breaks a western starring Marlon Brando and Jack Nicholson, following up both their Oscar wins for The Godfather and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Despite the pedigree of talent, it was a huge flop and no one remembers it.
While Griffin and David are #thetwofriends, Arthur Penn made a movie called Four Friends, a coming-of-age comedy-drama that was a big critical success, but a commercial flop and Penn stopped making movies for 4 years.
After two meddling films, Target and Dead of Winter, Arthur Penn's final movie might be the most bizarre final film for a prestigious New Wave director, the 1989 film Penn & Teller Get Killed, where Penn and Teller play fictional versions of themselves. I have not seen this yet heard of it, but this screams ARP material if there ever was one.
At least put Penn on next year's March Madness.
He's a director who doesn't get mentioned a lot, and so far I've only watched two of his films, but he seems to have a very interesting filmography. Both of his films I've seen, The Miracle Worker and Little Big Man, are among my favourite films of all time, and his filmography seems to encapsulate a lot of the progressive movements of the 60s. A film lead by two women, a film sympathizing with Indians and villifying white American settlers, a film about a guy dodging the draft and going on crazy hijinks based on a song by a humorous folk singer... Very distinctive stuff, yet from what I've seen so far he seems like a pretty straightforward figure. Have you watched any of his movies? What ones do you like and do you have anything interesting to share about this director?

New York Giants
Out: GM Dave Gettleman, OC Freddie Kitchens (Interim)
In: GM Dave Ziegler, OC Adam Stenavich
Fans have been unhappy with Gettleman for years, and it seems like ownership is finally catching up. The Maras also seem content with holding on to former Patriots ST Coach Joe Judge as their locker room leader. If that is the case, it makes sense to bring in somebody Judge is already familiar with in Ziegler, the current Patriots' Director of Player Personnel. The 44-year-old is a Patriot through and through. He was college teammates with Nick Caserio (who he replaced following Caserio's move to Houston) and Josh McDaniels (under whom he was a scout in Denver). He has cut his teeth under Belichick, spending the last 9 years in the scouting department in New England. In his first year without the "assistant" being tagged onto his job title, Ziegler added key free agents in Kendrick Bourne, Matt Judon, and Hunter Henry. He also oversaw one of the best draft classes in recent Patriot history with Mac Jones a favorite to win ROTY on top of inspiring play from Christian Barmore and Rhamondre Stevenson.
In addition to Ziegler, Packers' OL Coach Adam Stenavich joins as the new offensive coordinator. A bit of an unknown name, Stenavich is a former NFL player that has really made the most of his coaching opportunities. With Green Bay, he has overseen a revolving door of elite late round picks at OL, from Corey Linsley to David Bakhtiari to Yosh Nijman. In 2021, the Packers have seen countless injury along the line yet still have maintained an elite unit. Prior to Green Bay, Stenavich was on Shanahan's staff in San Francisco, coaching the likes of Joe Staley, Mike McGlinchey, and Weston Richburg. While Stenavich is unproven as a playcaller, he has worked under two of the best young offensive minds in the game. On top of his promising resume, his area of expertise is one the Giants desperately need help with. Other than Andrew Thomas, the Giants' OL has been an endless pile of poop covered garbage.
