A list of puns related to "Arlington Memorial Bridge"
Hi all,
I'm looking for some opinions on a bike route I have to ride for a new job.
Does anyone have experience biking on this stretch of S Arlington Blvd after the Arlington Memorial Bridge? (Link to map screenshot and road photos here)
I think my gut is already 99% saying it does not look safe, but I just wanted to know if anyone else bikes that stretch. It looks highway-esque and I can't tell at what speed cars can travel there.
Here is the overall route I'll be biking (link to map screenshot here). From the street view perusing I did, overall it seems doable. But I'll be testing out the route soon and seeing for myself.
Edit: A big thanks for everyone's suggestions and advice. I ended up testing the route late this afternoon and Jnuzzi08's suggestion worked out well for me. I am glad I bypassed S Arlington Blvd. I am looking forward to throwing everyone else's suggestions in the mix when I'm commuting and leisure riding that area!
FYI
The National Park Service will close Arlington Memorial Bridge to drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians from 9 p.m. on Friday, December 7, to 5 a.m. on Monday, December 10. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians will need to use alternative routes to cross the Potomac River. Boaters in the Potomac River should approach the bridge with caution and avoid the area near its center span.
When the December 7-10 closure ends, the bridge will return to the current three lane traffic pattern. That means there will be one constant eastbound and one constant westbound lane with a reversible third lane to accommodate rush hour traffic.
Over the next two and a half years, we expect a limited number of full bridge closures on weekends and occasional, short full closures of the bridge at night. The next full weekend closure is tentatively planned for January 2019.
The contractor seems to be making good progress. They have a bunch of framing up, looks like they'll be pouring concrete soon.
