I must be the only New Zealander here. Sadly my country New Zealand and Australia had stopped all visits to the Anzac cove. For security reasons. For years NZ people traveled to Anzac cove to pay their respects. May they all rest in peace.

[August 7th, 1915] Gallipoli: By 1:30 a.m., troops advancing from Anzac Cove have captured several positions on the heights leading to Chunuk Bair. By dawn, they are within a thousand yards of Chunuk Bair. But their commander, disregarding his orders, calls a fateful two-hour halt.

Why was Gallipoli/ANZAC cove so important in establishing Australian national identity?
I know that they celebrate ANZAC day there instead of the war being over and that it's gained importance in their culture, but what about this campaign made it so important?
