I think the Jewish religion is delusional. I think the Muslim religion is delusional.
That said, I do not believe in discriminating against Jews or Muslims.
However, hearing Trump call on Rep. Omar to resign for a tweet critical of the Israeli lobby really chaps my atheist ass.
The same man who said there were "good people on both sides" when the nazis were chanting "Jews will not replace us" in Charlottesville has no room to lecture anyone about what constitutes anti-semitism.
Full comments are here, main drama is here. Some has been deleted, so archive is here. Excerpt:
>Someone's going to say this is "terrorism", but occupying forces are a legitimate target when under occupation. >>Terrorism is such an abused term. Even the US army called 9/11 asymmetric warfare at first before they got their stories straight but yeah attacking soldiers can't be terrorism by definition, the targets have to be civilians and the objective has to be political/non military in nature. Killing civilians because you want them to be banned from your country is terrorism, killing civilians because you want them to take their army out of your country is simply war and it always has been. >>>"killing civilians because you want them to take their army out of your country is simply war and it always has been." Is this a joke? So you think it's right for an afghan to bomb a bus in the US? Why even go this far when the story is about someone attacking a soldier? >>>>Stfu liberal
etc. etc.
Then the CTH post is called out on r/AgainstHateSubreddits. Again some posts are deleted, so archive here
Someone messaged me when I posted this on the other subreddit (check my history) and they said it would be better to post it here. I don't understand anything unfortunately from this sub so the only thing I can do is to post.
Anyways, what do you have to say about this? Is it true that Sweden has a lot of anti semitism and that it is increasing? Do I visit Sweden as a Jew? Is it dangerous for me?
Following Representative Ilhan Omarβs recent comments regarding AIPAC, I was deeply frustrated, infuriated, and disappointed by some communitiesβ responses. From the outright denial of the mere possibility that Omarβs statement could be considered antisemitic, to comments considering her statement as proof of the Republican Partyβs better-suited position to act as defender of Americaβs Jewish population, and the general mockery of antisemitism - βDonβt eat a ham sandwich, you donβt want to be called an antisemite!β - Iβm convinced Reddit truly does not comprehend the specter of antisemitism.
I wanted to use this forum to put my thoughts into words, and to discuss what antisemitism is, how it is enacted and exploited, and why it matters. I will use comments from two current American politicians as examples.
What is Antisemitism?
We know it when we see it, right? Just on this subreddit though, we canβt even agree on how to operationalize antisemitism, but we all agree itβs a phenomenon. Can attitudes and beliefs be antisemitic, or solely actions? Is antisemitism a stable, fundamental trait possessed by an individual at all times, or is it situational and temporal? Can I admit to the antisemitic statement or action of a politician on βmyβ side, or do I shield them against this claim?
I think thereβs something unique about antisemitism among the unfortunately kaleidoscopic forms of bigotry in our society. Itβs not just an intolerance of the practitioners of Judaism, but a worldview; itβs essentially a conspiracy theory. Itβs an understanding of reality wherein there is something inherent to the Jewish existence that is wrong, or that is threatening to oneβs reality.
I often see specious retorts to claims of antisemitism rejecting the very conception of antisemitism as bigotry against Jews. The counter is that Jews are not the only Semitic people, and therefore the label of antisemitism cannot justifiably be used, or that using βantisemitismβ to describe bigotry against Jews is itself antisemitic because it denies the bigotry faced by Arabs. βSemiticβ in the academic sense, references a group of languages - Amharic, Arabic, Aramaic, Hebrew, etc - therefore a βSemiteβ is not a member of any particular ethnic or national group per se, but rather a member of any group that speaks a Semitic language. So use of this retort is itself a rhetorical enactment of antisemitism, in that it denies the conceptual understanding of the word. It denies Jews use of the
... keep reading on reddit β‘This is a repost of a post I made on r/Jewish If you agree or disagree please feel free to tell me why and if I have made any assumptions, in-corrections, or unclear sentiments with this question please let me know so that I may learn. Also my perspective is the American political discourse so if this is different in other nations feel to let me know and discuss this as well.
Israel seems so deeply enshrined in western politics that to criticise them is instantly hailed as antisemitism despite the fact the criticisms are often well founded and more about the war crimes committed than a hatred of Judaism.
In the UK election, Labour were painted as antisemitic simply for disagreeing with certain Israeli actions.
It feels like criticism is painted as racism with no space for debate or discussion. Just an instant label of racism and no.
The best way to combat this online is simply shaming them for the audacity to say that Bernie is such after literally losing his family on his Father's side in the Holocaust.
Do not bother denying or letting them muddy the waters. Shame them and call them pathetic to their faces.
I don't understand it, I really don't. How is it considered standard and acceptable to hate Muslims so publicly and spread bigotry within one of the larger subreddits on this site? At times, the admins get off their asses and antisemitic subreddits are rightfully removed or policed and given a chance to reform. Usually the hate subreddits cannot be reformed and end up getting banned, but TD walks the "acceptable" line (as judged by the admins) by outright crushing antisemitism (which is a good thing), yet promoting Islamophobia (a very bad thing). It makes zero sense why all religions aren't given that type of equality against hate.
Today has been a horrible day to observe the hate on that subreddit. I am going to copy and past some comments here, but I am going to make a twist on the usual naming and shaming of hate speech... I am going to show the direct correlation between antisemitism and Islamophobia by switching "Muslims" for "Jews" or "Islam" for "Judiasm."
Its time to play:
#Contemporary Islamophobes that sound just like Nazi antisemites from WWII!
> Islam Judiasm is a Disease. Christianity Pastafarianism is the cure
> Islam Judaism is anti human values and they complain about pork.
> Islam's Judiasm's solution to all problems is to rape and kill.
> [Now, imagine the world with no Islam Judiasm.](https://np.reddit.com/r/The_Donald/comments/blh5sk/2019_ramadan_bombathon_starts_off_with_a_bang
