A list of puns related to "Alfred Dudley Ward"
I was re-watching the season four Christmas special, "The London Season," and noticed something around the 13:10 minute mark where Mary says to Freda, "Have you met Charles Blake?" and Charles's face is just like . . . yeaaah, I definitely know her. And then Freda goes (quote flirtatiously and knowingly), "I know Mr. Blake." And Charles immediately changes the subject and says, "Are you going to this grand soiree Gillingham?"
For Charles and Freda to not elaborate on how they know each other is suggesting that they had some sexual/romantic affair with one another. This is even more poignant when just seconds earlier in the scene, Mary asks Freda how she came across Rose, and Freda was fine with responding how they met and knew each other. On the other hand, there was no elaboration about how she met Charles.
Freda, although married, was the well-known mistress of the Prince of Wales, so it's not completely farfetched to think that she could've had an affair with Blake.
Just thought this was interesting! Especially since Blake was vying for Mary's affections.
That comment didn't age well. She called the Prince of Wales a "faithful little chap" in the Christmas special, which took place in 1923. Only a few years later he dumped her for Wallis Simpson. Very "faithful" π
I've forgotten a lot of this fic, all I remember is one specific scene and some shaky details, so if anyone is able to recognize it I'd be very grateful. It was a longish fic, and I'm 98 % sure it was a Severitus, or at least "Snape becomes Harry's guardian" story. The one scene I remember is this:
It's the end of the school year, and Vernon has picked Harry up from the train station and is driving him home. They're almost back to Privet Drive when the road is blocked by emergency vehicles. It turns out the Dursleys' home has been destroyed by Death Eaters, and Petunia and (maybe?) Dudley have been killed in the attack. Vernon and Harry both get out of the car and stand there in shock, until some Order members apparate in and tell Harry that they have to take him away immediately, because with Petunia dead the wards protecting him are gone, and Voldemort could attack him there at any second.
I believe it was on a non-ao3 site, but I could be wrong.
I know itβs a throwaway plot element, mentioned only in brief. But in GoF itβs mentioned that Dudley was on a forced diet because the school nurse had sent home some carefully worded comments informing the Dursleys that Dudley could no longer fit into his school uniform.
I mean I used to work for a public school (front office administration) and let me tell you we absolutely dreaded talking to parents about anything. It turns out people turn into horrible gremlins when anything regarding their kids is concerned.
Now multiply that attitude to the power of Dursley. Consider that the school had definitely called and wrote about Dudleyβs bullying and bad grades many times before so they were no doubt experienced with angry and defensive Dursleys. Now imagine youβre the nurse about to deliver them the news that their kid is objectively, irrefutably, morbidly obese. I can only imagine the furious phone calls filled with threats and demeaning put downs that Vernon subjected them too.
I think that nurse is one of the bravest characters.

Donβt get me wrong, I love Hagrid, and Iβm not exactly a fan of Dudley, but Hagrid giving Dudley a tail was wrong, in my opinion. I know that Dudley was nothing more than a bully, but he was still an eleven year old child. Hagrid gave Dudley a tail to punish his father for his remarks against Dumbledore. I donβt believe that a eleven-year-old bully, however nasty he might be, deserves to be punished in that manner. Just my two cents (or knuts).
Alfred: βMaster Bruce, whatβs a htub?β
Dudley gave an interview for the DMN, and I found this part interesting talking about Luka:
> He has to instill confidence in shooters. Right now, weβre shooting them badly. Chris Paul has that influence, like βHey, Iβm going to get an easy one, get you going. Iβm going to call a play for you, even though I might be hot.β
> Thatβs something Luka has to work and balance β playing the game better for winning the game. I donβt mean just actually winning a basketball game, because thereβs a game within a game. Thatβs something heβll become comfortable with. Guys like J-Kidd, Chauncey Billups, Steven Nash, it takes them four or five years. Weβre just trying to speed the process up.
I hope this top comment from last week title doesnβt get our sub flagged as NSFW π
