The previous master post will now cease to be updated. Most of the links will probably stay valid, but don't count on that. Fortunately, this should be the last time I have to migrate to a new text post! Reddit has stopped automatically archiving all posts older than six months. This doesn't apply to posts on user profiles, so this post is going to /r/filk directly rather than my user profile, so it won't age out.

I'm still providing music to the Songs from the Stars YouTube channel. Recently I uploaded an album there that I did not first put on the Internet Archive: The Rookery, by Sam Baardman. This is the first album that I've handled this way, though I've had it in mind for a while. I'm not putting it up for download at the moment since it's on CD—so while it's definitely out of print, it's probably a bit less unavailable than tapes. I hope this approach will strike a happy medium.

The most part of these uploads is, and will continue to be, made up of tapes that I have digitized and remastered myself. If you want to know the provenance of some particular digitization, you can ask.

Yes, it's part trois in the series. You'll recall the original post from u/ohanse and the follow up using PFR's AV from u/Mr6ixFour. Many in the comments of both brought up a desire to adjust for draft position. Well, this is it.

Method:

Using 10 years of draft data (2011-2020), we calculate the average AV/year for each pick (i.e. Burrow, Kyler, and Baker have an average AV/year of 10.67, so the 1st overall pick over the last 3 years is expected to be at 10.67). Purely using this number to measure against is flawed. Over the last 10 years, the average value for the 3rd overall pick is lower than that of the 4th overall pick (thanks, Dion). Since we would expect a higher value for an earlier pick, we'll correct for this by smoothing out the scatter plot with an exponential curve. This curve (Y = 6.3344 * exp[-.009 * X]) is the standard by which we are measuring success. If a draft pick has a higher AV/year, that pick was better than expected. If it has a lower AV/year, it was worse.

Since the absolute difference between expected and actual is greater at the top of the draft, we'll use Percent of AV Above Expected (PAVE) to measure success. Lost? Take Cam's 12.67 AV/Year for example. For a 1st overall pick, we'd expect a 6.27. Cam is 6.4 points higher (12.67 - 6.27) but only 2 times larger (12.67 / 6.27). Now take Austin Blythe. His 6.75 is roughly the same absolute difference above expected (.68) as Cam's (6.07), but it's also almost 10 times greater (6.07 / .68). It's that division function that we're using here. That is, PAVE = (Absolute AV/year difference) / (Expected AV/Year)

Over the last 10 years, Washington has been killing it

• The average WAS pick is has an average 38% PAVE. This is heavily influenced by the last two classes (88% and 97%, respectively) and the fact that their worst draft class (2016) has a PAVE of only -29% (only 2 other teams managed to have a better bottom class).
• ARI is actually the worst drafting team. This is fairly heavily weighed down by the 2020 class, which has half of its class with PAVEs of -100% (0 total AV). On top of that, only 4 of their 10 drafts have positive PAVEs, with their best being 2012 at a

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

For those of you who may vaguely remember former Eagles, Bills and Seahawks running back, Bryce Brown, you may remember that he was traded to the Bills on May 10th, 2014. This trade spurred a tree consisting of all 32 NFL teams and 328 draft picks/players over 7 years. Yes, really. All of these picks are connected and flipped for one another. I did not include players getting traded later on in their careers. (IE Carson Wentz to the Colts) As far as I know this is the largest trade tree of its kind. Here are those picks. Enjoy the chaos.
