A list of puns related to "Airport Time Capsule"
Been sitting on this one. I don't need a new router now but will be moving in about a year when I probably will need my own. By then the tech will just be another year out of date, is it worth picking one up before they're gone?
I've used them before at my parent's home and I like how easy they are to use and expand your network, and easy to control everything from the Airport Utility app.
thoughts?
My discontinued Apple Time Capsule (last manufactured model), after many years of reliable use, is finally crapping out and I'd like to replace it. I've perused a lot of different posts here, and have read some dated reviews online, but curious to get feedback on the solutions I'm considering, as well as learn about what's worked for other people. Thank you in advance!
SITUATION: Looking for a Time Capsule replacement for a 1500 sq. ft single story home (drywall & 2x4 construction) on a 6000 sq. ft lot. (Network has been extended to our backyard with an Airport Express which I will retire.) Most everything in my media entertainment system is hardwired with a Netgear GS108 switch. I have 200 mbps Spectrum Internet with their provided Cisco/Technicolor DPC3216 modem (which the customer is essentially locked out of).
PRIMARY OBJECTIVES: Solid coverage/support for my wireless and wired devices & Time Machine network backup support.
SECONDARY OBJECTIVES: Parental controls, VPN friendly (not mission critical, but something I'm interested in).
DEVICES TO SUPPORT: Apple household (3x MBP + 5 iOS devices) + a variety of smart home devices (Hue, Rachio, Nest thermostat and exterior cams, multiple Alexa devices, Harmony Remote, etc.), HP wireless printer, Ooma phone system, and internet capable entertainment devices (DirecTV, Marantz AV Receiver, AppletTV, Panasonic TV, Blue Ray, etc.)
CURRENT STATUS: Since my WiFi is failing, router replacement is a priority. Researched a lot of Mesh systems, but it seems like the Synology RT2600ac standalone router might be a good solution that can be expanded to Mesh with their MR2200ac, if the coverage doesn't have a wide enough reach. The only strong negative I read was from a post earlier this year that Bonjour support is compromised when adding an MR2200ac, as well as the USB ports on the MR2200ac. I have a 5TB WD My Passport USB drive that I snatched up for under $100 recently that I can plug into the RT2600ac for Time Machine backup. I've alternately looked at getting a Synology NAS, but I'm not ready to pony up that kind of cash yet. I don't expect to run a media server, cloud storage, or anything like that on an attached USB drive, just Time Machine back
... keep reading on reddit β‘I donβt know much about servers, but I was wondering if AirPort Time Capsules can be connected to it now?
Hello, need some expert advise: is there a combination of settings to allow my time capsule to enable a closed (no internet) WiFi network but disable internet? Currently, the time capsule appears to be constantly looking for internet which in turn causes an overheat warning.
My 1st gen Airport Express is still working great. However, this week I changed ISPs and got VOIP and was thrown into a pickle needing two ports on the AEx and only had one. The ISP is giving me a router to hook up to my AEx to remedy this (like an extension).
Anyway, I do figure I'll need to eventually replace this once it bites the dust. I've had it for about 10 years.
Is it worth:
Anyway, I am just thinking ahead. Thanks for any input!
I see on both their site and booking they say you can stay either 7 hours during the day, from 10a-5p, or overnight. I would like to do the 7 hour option, but does that mean it can ONLY be during the period of 10a-5p? So, for example, if I booked for 7 hours, checked in at 3:30pm, I'd have to be out by 5pm?
Selling some Apple routers and an external HDD. All come with original power cable, Time Capsule comes with original box.
Hi all . I Just left the AATC for a Google WiFi but I have loads of things saved on the AATC that I want to use/watch/listen on my TV.
The thing is I don't know how to turn off the AATCs internet/WiFi. I just want to use it as a NAS. Does anyone know how to fix this? I might be terrible at explaining this but I think you get what I mean.
My setup is like this. Internet direct from the Walloutlet -> Google Wifi. My computer is MacBook Pro from 2011. So no routers/modems or anything like that.
Hope anyone can help me. Thanks in advance.
I have an OLD Apple Airport/Time Capsule unit and it's time to upgrade. Since Apple has killed off their Airport line, I'm looking at a few different options (Eero, Velop, Orbi, etc).
Obviously my current router is not a mesh system. I only have one base station (no extenders) and it covers my entire small house pretty well. Given that's the case, should I expect an Eero hub without any beacons to cover my entire house as well? Or is the system dependent on the beacons to get a decent range?
I see in this forum lots of reports (from a year ago) about issues with Apple devices and comments about them looking into it. I also see reports of some settings tweaks and issues with the Apple devices and prioritizing which access point they connect to. Has this been fixed on Eero's end? Obviously any device/Apple related issues are separate from that. In addition, would this not be an issue if I only had a hub and no beacons?
In threads about various routers, I've seen comments that the Eero system is not as fast as some others. Is that for Eero gen1? Or is that true of gen2 as well since they added Tri band? Appreciate any insight.
The "enhanced parental controls" require a subscription. What's available without this? Can I still easily limit access to certain sites manually? Can I limit certain connected devices to only access what I allow? Or does that require the subscription?
Appreciate any feedback!
Thanks!
Hey r/apple. After digging through forum after forum I can't find a solution to setting up a time capsule that had a previous owner. It doesn't show up in my networks and I'm not sure how I can configure it. I get the green solid light so it's at least in functional condition. How do I go about it? It's the First gen Time Capsule from 2007.
I NEED NEED NEED some files on my old Apple airport time capsule. I just bought a new time capsule to be a backup. When I went to transfer the files over, I got this error message in AirPort Utility: βInternal disk needs repair.β
I have most of the files backed up in another place, but there are three folders in this TC that contain very VERY vital files. For those who would be tempted to chastise me for not having these backed up onto another disk or cloud drive, I know this already. I had a MacBook and now (possibly) an AirPort Time Capsule go bad within a week of each other. Bad luck. I bought this new time capsule to have a second backup.
Is there anything that can be done to get these files back? Please help.
I have a Time Capsule that holds movies on it, but I can only access it via my Mac or a 3rd party app for iOS. I know you can connect to "Servers" via Files but can't seem to figure that out.
Any ideas? Thanks!
I need to replace my router and was long planning on buying an AirPort coupled with external drives to work with Time Machine. But since Apple discontinued those, not sure it is the good option. And the Apple Store employees donβt seem to know what is the best way to replace that. So, Iβm looking for a system of a few simply configured devices that would let me:
So, what would you suggest? Should I still search for an AirPort still available somewhere, even if the technology is a few years old? Or is there another Β« easy Β» way of accomplishing all of this?
Is it worth the money?
Edit: You guys convinced me and I bought one :) I'm loving it so far!
Has anyone got wireless WiFi extending working between a 4th generation Time Capsule and a 2nd generation AirPort Express? It works when wired but I don't understand why the WiFi extension doesn't work; while I was setting this up, the AirPort Express is only 2 meters away from the Time Capsule...
Here's the error: https://i.imgur.com/CbKxmH5.png
I've even followed https://www.yeahinaminute.com/2012/10/solved-setting-up-a-2nd-generation-airport-express-to-extend-an-airport-extremes-wireless-network/ - but this no longer works
Thank you!
A few weeks ago, I decided to get rid of all my old devices. They aren't physically gone yet, but I did a factory reset on them. One device was an AirPort Time Capsule. I erased the profiles and the hard drive.
Now a "AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.9.1" is in the list of Apple security updates. It includes a vulnerability regarding "A base station factory reset may not delete all user information". Should I unpack the TC just to update its firmware and re-erase everything? Or just leave it in the closet and bump the problem to the next guy (although it's my information at risk)?
Hi!
I have a Asus rt-ac66u today and I'm thinking of buying a time capsule for all my backups.
My setup at home is:
Mac Mini late 2012, Mac Book Pro late 2011, iMac 27" late 2013, iPad Air, ipad mini gen 2, iphone 6+ and a iPhone 6.
I want all of these units to share the same backup place as easy as possible. And time capsule seems to do just that.
I do however love my asus router and I have never had any problems with it. Is it possible to only use the time capsule as a backup device instead of router and backup?
And is it possible to use the time capsule to get a stronger signal from my asus to rooms in my house that has rather low signal?
**For anyone coming to this from the future - I'm still not sure what the issue is. However I have resolved it by setting my router to bridge mode (it is actually a combined ADSL modem / router) and having the Time Capsule act as router.
On my MacBook it correctly resolves AirPort-Time-Capsule.local
to 192.168.1.2
, however under Linux (elementary OS Loki) it gets resolved to 169.254.139.153
which is unreachable. If I query Avahi then I get the following:
= enp1s0 IPv4 AirPort Time Capsule Apple TimeMachine local
hostname = [AirPort-Time-Capsule.local]
address = [169.254.139.153]
Interestingly, when I restart the Time Capsule, a Avahi logs a new service under the correct IP, but I guess it's not caching this, because the hostname still gets resolved to the unroutable address.
Any clues?
EDIT: The title is slightly incorrect. Currently I only know that my Linux system is resolving that hostname to an unroutable IP address - I assume this is because of something weird going on between the Time Capsule and Avahi. For what it's worth, the hostname for other Apple devices (MacBook and iPhone) get correctly resolved.
I currently have the latest models of both the Time Capsule and Extreme, albeit theyβre about three years old now. My Time Capsule is directly connected to my Modem/Router/Gateway (I have no idea what the technical term for the device is) provided by AT&T U-Verse while my Extreme is in a different room extending my network. My Time Capsule says there is a βDouble NATβ and provides the following status message:
βThis AirPort base station has a private IP address on its Ethernet WAN port. It is connected to a device or network that is using Network Address Translation (NAT) to provide IP addresses. Change your AirPort base station from using DCHP and NAT to bridge mode.β
If I were to enable bridge mode, wouldnβt the disable the Wi-Fi function on the Time Capsule, thus preventing my Extreme to extend the network? Also, is there a different setup you would suggest for my home network? I pay for 100Mbps down via U-Verse, however, I am not touching anywhere near that speed via wireless with download speeds at around 45Mbps via Ookla; hardwired is much closer at around 91Mbps. AT&T does not offer their Gigabit Internet in my area yet so 100Mbps is the highest I can go.
Thanks in advance from the community!
If we use an airport time capsule as a router can it be used by my partner to view my internet activity ( we both have Macs)? He is the only one able to login to it. Novice here.
So with Apple discontinuing their wifi products, what are some OKed by Apple alternatives for Time Machine backups over the network? Should my Time Capsule fail do I need to look for an old MacMini?
I can see advantages to both. Which, in your opinion, is better? And why?
