A list of puns related to "Adventures In Public School"
I used to live in Pike Creek for about 2 years and will be moving back sometime in the next year or so.
When I lived there, it seemed like the general consensus was that the public schools werenβt that great, they proficiencies were in the single digits, stuff like that. Most of my coworkers lived in 19711 or 19808 with a few in Wilmington city limits.
It also seems like the high schools are on a βchoiceβ system which is weird to me, as schools were zoned where I grew up. You just went to the one high school you were zoned to.
Iβd like to have kids in the next few years so I worry a bit about setting up roots in a place where the public schools are potentially not good or where they might not have access to a quality education.
Can a parent/recent alum/teacher/etc. provide some insight? Thank you.
"The whole point of science is that most of it is uncertain. That's why science is exciting--because we don't know. Science is all about things we don't understand. The public, of course, imagines science is just a set of facts. But it's not. Science is a process of exploring, which is always partial. We explore, and we find out things that we understand. We find out things we thought we understood were wrong. That's how it makes progress."
"The nonliving universe is as diverse and as dynamic as the living universe, and is also dominated by patterns of organization that are not yet understood"
"It is characteristic of all deep human problems that they are not to be approached without some humor and some bewilderment."
Chicago Public Schools identifies 100K students who may not be showing up for class
>New data obtained by the ABC7 I-Team reveals about 30% of Chicago public school students are at risk of not taking part in classes during the 2021-2022 school year.
>"We identified students based on their attendance, truancy, grades, discipline. And so, we identified specific indicators and weighed them and identified who was at risk, who was at high risk of not re-engaging," said Interim CEO of Chicago Public Schools Dr. Jose Torres.
>"Not re-engaging" is CPS-talk for playing hooky, the old-school term for students who are habitually absent, AWOL from classes, or just don't show up for school.
>According to new data obtained by the I-Team after a public records request, CPS has identified 100,274 students as "considered to be in need of interventions or outreach in order to facilitate their full engagement for the upcoming school year."
>In other words, 100,274 students are likely to regularly skip class or be late - about a third of the entire district.
CPS talking to Lyft, Uber after bus drivers quit over vaccine mandate
>As thousands of Chicago Public Schools families scrambled to find transportation to the first day of school Monday because of a mass bus driver resignation that officials attributed to anger over a vaccine mandate, Mayor Lori Lightfoot said her administration is in talks with rideshare companies to take children to their schools.
>The move would be highly unusual and could cause yet another set of dilemmas to sort through as parents figure out how to get their kids to classes.
>About 2,100 students, including 990 in special education, were given no more than two daysβ notice that their bus route no longer existed. District officials said they received word Friday from the private companies with which they contract for bus services that 73 drivers had resigned because they refused to abide by CPSβ vaccine mandate, which requires all employees and contractors to get shots by Oct. 15. The requirement was announced more than two weeks ago.
Hey there! Tomorrow at Noon EST/9am PST, we'll be starting our Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures marathon to raise money for underfunded teachers via DonorsChoose.org
Our stream will be live on 8redcoins.org and you can visit our fundraising page here.
PRIZES Due to the competitive nature of the game, we're going to have a friendly "head-to-head" aspect where the viewers can randomly join one of the four teams by either donating or joining our mailing list. Then, whichever player ends up with the most points will win prizes for his/her team!
Everyone on the winning team will win a small prize, and the larger prizes (including a crocheted Link hat, pixel art magnets, and knitted Navis!) will be given by drawing to members of the team who made a donation of any size.
(Plus if you're interested in making fools of us by forcing us to sing karaoke, impersonate a famous person, or talk in an absurd accent, you can always visit our donation menu to make it happen.)
It's bound to be a lot of fun, and all for a great cause! You can find all the details and tune in on 8redcoins.org
I went to a public elementary school in nyc in the late 80's and remember being put in "ET" classes. Not sure if it's something they have anymore or what it was all about. Google searches came up with nothing. Could anyone shed some light on what this was?
The email says the following:
As you know, this month is Islamic Heritage month. To acknowledge the Muslim heritage of our student body, staff, and community members, we are planning to do a march at our school this month. This march will aim to create awareness about Islamic religion and heritage, and to combat anti-Muslim hate and racism. If you are interested in attending this march, please meet in room 115 on lunch Monday. See you then!
I thought to share this here to see other people's thoughts about this and whether other people experienced a similar thing lately. This endless stupidity that's rooted in Canadian institutions and some non-muslims' minds is astonishing. Anti-muslims do exist and I'm against it (Even though there are much more groups who are experiencing much more discrimination and deserve the awareness). But islam is not a fucking race. And what islamic heritage are they planning to raise awareness about? The biggest islamic heritage is conquests, pedophilia, slavery, sexual slavery, rape, blood, torture, poverty, inequality, injustice, the killings of scientists, plus a ton of illogical and non-scientific bullshit.
It's on the District website, public information. They've been in school one week.
I'm a first year teacher at a F school and I thought my colleagues were exaggerating the poor standards of the majority of the students at my middle school. It can be massively discouraging most days when my kids struggle with basic words and concepts. I have to wonder what if any did their elementary school teachers teach them.
I wanna open their eyes to the world but a lot of the time I'm having to explain what the world is to my kids.
