Interested in how science and art overlap? So are we! We are scientists and artists who use a variety of artistic media to create works of art that showcase microbiology in our world. Some of us use combinations of microbes "painted" on nutritional agar; others use more traditional artistic platforms like drawings and photography to express our ideas. What we have in common (other than our love of microbiology and art) is that we are all winners of the American Society for Microbiology's 2021 Agar Art Contest!
The American Society for Microbiology has organized this annual contest since 2015, inviting scientists, artists, and anyone with an interest in the intersection of science and art, to create and submit their microbial artwork. This is a rugged competition: each year there are hundreds of entries from around the world that are narrowed down through two rounds of expert judging to identify the winners.
Join us today for a discussion about our individual artistic inspirations and creative processes. We'll answer your questions about how to turn microbes (and microbial ideas and concepts) into works of art. We'll be jumping on from 2 - 4 PM ET (7 PM - 9 PM UTC). Ask us anything!

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Similar to u/RevolutionarySport6 ‘s recent posts regarding team’s roster outlooks, I’ll be making them while less focusing on the rosters and more of season records, standing predictions, and where they might end up in the tournament (NCAA, NIT, CBI, etc)

Michigan was obviously one of the best teams in the Big Ten last year, winning the B1G regular season (although Illinois fans believe they deserved it based off of their full conference schedule playing out). They lost to Ohio State in the conference Semis but that didn’t stop them from getting a #1 seed and making the Elite 8.
The wolverines brought in the #1 recruiting class (including 5 stars Caleb Houstan and Moussa Diabete, 4 stars Kobe Bufkin, Frankie Collins and Isaiah Barnes, and 3 star Will Tschetter. They picked up DeVante Jones from Coastal Carolina, and return Dickinson, Johns, Howard, Jackson, Williams, and Eli Brooks.
With all this, and the known schedule, I have the Michigan wolverines at 26-5 (16-4 B1G) and losing in the B1G championship to Purdue, entering the tournament at 28-6 where they grab a #2 seed, and will make the Elite 8 and finish out the year at 31-7. I believe they have F4 potential and they do, but for this moment I think E8 is where they end up.

Purdue’s season obviously ended in heartbreak and disappointment last year at the hands of North Texas, but that shouldn’t be the case this season. They return nearly everybody and bring in a solid recruiting Class with two four stars in Trey Kaufman and Caleb Furst.
