Gran had officially snapped. That was what Neville thought to himself. A poltergeist. Hiring a poltergeist to help build his confidence. The poltergeist looked at the boy with a raised eyebrow.
“Ma’am, can you please explain why I'm here?
“This is your anger translator, Neville,” explained Madam Longbottom, using a false saccharine voice you’d use to tell a five year old about the birds and the bees.
“Why are you talking to him like he’s a baby?” said the poltergeist. “He’s…how old are you kid?”
“Eleven,” answered Neville. The poltergeist seemed friendly enough with a rather deep raspy voice.
“Now that we know you’re not a Squib, you need to be ready for all Hogwarts has,” continued Madam Longbottom.
“OH, HELL YES! YOU’RE GOING TO HOGWARTS. YOU’RE GONNA BE A WIZARD!” Reginald shouted. Then he paused. “Wait, just one second. What’s this about the kid being a Squib?”
“Oh, my grandson. He’s a late bloomer,” sighed Madam Longbottom. She adjusted the stuffed vulture on her hat. “Doesn’t seem to have a fraction of his father’s talent. Bit of a shame really.”
“Merlin, help me.” moaned Neville.
“I’m sorry, ma’am, I’m not sure I heard you,” said Reginald slowly. He floated up to meet Madame Longbottom at eye level. “Do you bloody mean to tell me that you think so low of your grandson, you think it’s a shame he’s a “late bloomer?”
“Yes,” said Madam Longbottom. “It’s not been easy to raise the boy.”
“SOD OFF BINT,” shouted Reginald. “THIS KID IS GOING TO GO TO HOGWARTS AND HE WILL DAMN WELL BE AS FINE AS HE CAN. AND YOU WILL BE OKAY WITH THAT!”
Madam Longbtoom, white with shock, excused herself. Reginald turned to Neville and smiled.
“Merlin, help me,” moaned Neville again.
“Wait,” said Reginald. “Is Peeves still at Hogwarts? That little knob is a donut.”
I'm reposting this since we've had a ton of subscribers since the last time it was posted. Incredible 1st hand testimony from one of Neville Goddard's direct students.
I have seen this in other aspects of my life due to being openminded and on an endless quest for self-awareness. This am a bible banging older couple proved out once again that overcoming generational religious conditioning may be beyond many peoples abilities. Knowing what I know I realize I attracted this display and find it to be glorious in feeling so confident and secure in the naturalness of this belief that I was able to explain and listen to the rebuttal without any triggers or concerns. Empathy for the couple that is 'powerless' to improve their lives. Forgiveness because they know not what they do. Wow I am so appreciative of my life and my understanding of I AM.
Just had to put that out there. Thanks to all of you for listening and also being aware of I AM.
So here's the thing... Neville is very popular in this subreddit. I have read some of his stuff and for the most part I can say I agree with him in some topics. Now, let me contextualize a bit of my belief background.
I am a pagan, ex-catholic 23 year old philosophy bachelor. I think this pretty much can give you the idea of how skeptic I've learned to be of anything that comes out of the New Age belief movement (Like The Secret film and book, all of those self-help courses, etc. I've had some encounters with people preaching these beliefs that have truly become harmful since they believed themselves to be, quite literally, gods or celestial heralds or even aliens... and in turn many of these people would also invalidate other's suffering and experiences, like blaming a victim for their trauma because in the end, you're the creator of your own world, no? I just think these beliefs can become harmful if not kept under constant scrutiny). I was introduced to many concepts of the New Age movement very early in life, as my family is involved in many aspects of it. So I had some sort of knowledge regarding Neville's teachings, I just didn't know who was the man that started them (New Age self-help gurus don't tend to... quote their sources or redirect people to other authors).
So, in part, I agree with him. I agree but merely because he's telling me stuff I learned from teacher outside of the New Age. Teachers that were, in my humble opinion, far more knowledgeable than New Age gurus.
For example, many of Neville's teachings about the Bible being a symbolic map of the psyche instead of a literal record of events have been in pagan religions for centuries. Plato taught his disciples that the myths about the Gods were not literal (Zeus' didn't impregnate Danae, Poseidon didn't rape Medusa, Circe didn't kill those sailors, etc) but symbolic narratives about the state of the soul. Neville is incredibly Platonic and if you are interested in understanding his idea of the universe more clearly, I do recommend you have Plato's vision in mind as well.
Plato believed that there was a “realm” in which only psychic level stuff occurred. He taught that the material world, in which we interact, is nothing but a shadow of that “more real” psychic realm.
