A list of puns related to "A Parcel Of Steeleye Span"
It seems as if France has no, as in no, artists or groups that took ancient indigenous music and even attempted to replicate medieval instrumentation, let alone embellish it as Renbourn did. I have listened to years' worth of "new folk artists" self-identified as French traditional and/or folk singers. They're not folk singers in the meaning "traditional" or "folk" have in English. Some even sing in English. Those that don't, i.e. La Bottine Souriante, create single-instrument (usually accordion) music quite like polka music, with no attempt at melody.
Interceltique is almost always one long dirge, punctuated with polkas. So: do the French have any folk/traditional groups or solo artists like John Renbourn, Bert Jansch, etc.?
This isn't meant to criticize any singer or group that sings in a genre not even close to "modern" traditional music. It's just that no one seems aware the genre--as exemplified by the '70's-era bands I mention in the thread title--exists. And I'm not interested in overly orchestrated Blackmore's Night/Omnia theater; I'm looking for modern melodic replications of mid-century traditional/folk.
Thank you.

I keep hearing good things about this band and they sound like they might be my cup of tea. I'm into a lot of psych and prog stuff. Where do I start?
