Here's a little fun trick that may help mitigate the malaise of depressive symptoms: whenever it hits you, imagine your life being narrated as in a Jane Austen novel.

Jane Austen Retellings/Twists/Sequels

Hi all! I'd like to compile a list of Jane Austen modern retellings, sequels, world expansions, fantasy twists, etc..

I have already read the Staci Hart Bennet Brothers and Austen books - tons of fun to re-interpret Mary, Lydia, and Kitty as MMCs.

I also recommend The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow, which is less of a romance and more the character study/journey of Mary Bennet with an eventual romance plot.

And of course, the OG fantasy twist, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

There are others I've read, but I never wrote them down. What have you all read and loved?

I'd also welcome any other classic story explorations/retellings you've read! Bonus points for steam, but not required! TIA!

EDIT: I welcome non-P&P stories as well! My favorite Austen is actually Persuasion. It’s just that most retellings I’ve seen are P&P-based

Jane Austen Bumper Sticker Spotted in Seattle's Ballard Neighborhood

Earlier this week I was driving home from the gym and the car ahead of me was going, well, let's say not as quickly as I wish it were. I was gearing up to be cranky until I saw that they had a Jane Austen bumper sticker. I couldn't see what it said in smaller script, but could see Jane Austen very clearly at the bottom.

Of course I didn't mind them taking their time any longer, knowing them to be the most discerning of readers, and probably drivers as well.

(But if you see this, dear driver, I'd love to know what your bumper sticker actually says.)

Jane Austen and the Brontes are among the most treasured voices in the English language despite having published anonymously at a time when married women weren't permitted to enter into contracts. Were there any role models for women writers of their generation?Did their prominence affect these laws?

That is, was there the sort of cultural impact regarding these kind of restrictions one would expect once it became apparent that many of the greatest writers of their era would never have been read had they been strictly enforced?

If Jane Austen's Persuasion was a kdrama...

If Persuasion by Jane Austen was adapted to a kdrama in modern setting, what would be your ideal cast and plot?

My pick would be the leads will be in their late teens where FL would be a rich and popular girl. The ML would be a poor, timid guy who has a crush on FL but is rejected by FL because he's not good looking and cool. (Yes, I want FL to be shallow). ML returns after six-seven years as a super successful, rich and handsome person (preferably a self made millionaire businessman or rockstar) and the FL has become wiser.
