A few days ago I asked about the shire horse, and I ended up buying one. I named him Gaston and for the most part he’s a good boah. About as slow as I’d imagined he would be, but also very quick to bond with. Pretty brave too, managed to do the Wolfman bounty with him and he didn’t buck me off once.

I started reading this book in middleschool and never finished because it was stolen. It haunts me to not know how it ended. Fiction-kids/young adult-published in or before 1998. Main character young female about middle school age. Lives with her aunt. Entire family (other than the two of them) died in freak boating accident (they jumped in the water from a boat without putting the latter down and couldn’t get back in- all drowned). She and her aunt stayed home and so survived. She meets a boy (with dark hair?) very quiet/ reclusive. Sees him later in the woods (with two siblings?) riding on a (black?) horse. That’s about as far as I got in the book before it disappeared. Either got it at the scholastic book fair or from the library at the school.
