So I am on the road a lot and can’t say I see a lot of Z4’s out there. Never really thought about them much. So today I’m at a light and look over and see what I’m pretty sure is the last gen (I looked at pics and it definitely isn’t the porked up fat version of 2018 and up) and I was shocked at how sexy that little car was. Had the hard top and it looked like a plus 1 wheel and tire upgrade,but otherwise stock. It actually looked light and tossable unlike most cars of today. Anyone had one of these? You put a little more power into that thing with the 6 speed and that thing has to be an absolute blast to drive.

So in 2020 and early 2021 I stress bought climbing gear, we may never know why. I feel like most reviews of gear are comparing something against another equal new

Petzl Connect Adjust: Last time I climbed before proper lockdown, I had one of those awkward wrestling matches with a 2 bolt anchor, really uneven terrain, a daisy chain, and my rappel device to transition from the anchor onto rappel, and said never again. (Also, daisy chains aren't PAS, and I knew better). In hindsight I think a regular PAS chain would have been both cheaper and better. This thing is functionally a more-and-less convenient clove hitch, that is on a separate rope.

Sterling Hollowblock: Historically I'd used nylon slings and a klemheist, or hatefully used a segment of a cordelette to prussik. I upgraded all of my slings to dyneema about 2 years ago and just realized that. This hollowblock is small, cheap, and works great, excellent third hand for rappels, great prussik cord. I won't go climbing outdoors without it anymore. I got this on a lark and I am blown away with how subtly great it is.

My 1998 era Aliens are needing retirement. They are old, questionable, made by CCH, and just... crunchy? I went with Z4's over alien revo's (because alien revos are 5$ more expensive) and over TCU's because I already have TCU's and they aren't terribly flexible. After 3 trips, i feel very meh about them, I think the Zero Friends or DragonFly's are a better option but I couldn't see any in person. verdict: meh. Probably better than 22 year old aliens, maybe should have just had them reslung.

Rockie talkies: (braces for hate). conditional yay. If you are climbing with partners you've got experience with, on simple routes, this is no better than hollerin' or yanking the rope. On my third climb out last weekend, I got lost and had to downclimb and get on a different crack system, it was clearly better than hollering down to my belayer, since I could calmly say "I'm downclimbing some, about fifteen feet... ok climbing again" instead of three cycles of shouting "MURM DRUNCLBMG!!"/"WAAAT?"/ "AYM DURNCLIMBIN"/"YER DOWNCLAMBRN?"/"YAAAH". On our last day I took two boulders up

I've always liked Z4 the most to be honest, but from what I can gather most people like Z3 the most and Z4 is often considered pointless and is overshadowed by 1-3.

TLDR: is the BMW Z4 a “hairdresser car”

It’s a bit of a weird one but hear me out, my lease was quickly coming to an end on my Mercedes and I was set on buying a used 2018 Porsche Cayman 718. However, after looking for one on popular sites and at local/ not so local dealerships there didn’t seem to be any reasonably priced. So I opened up my options and looked at roadsters and convertibles, 2 weeks later I’ve test driven the all of them nothing was truly exciting until I looked at a Z4, i wanted to hate it as I was secretly holing out for a Porsche but I fell in love on the test drive and as the car market is currently a nightmare, I decided to swiftly purchase it.

I’m loving life with my new 2021 BMW Z4 sDrive 30i and I’ve got good comments from the neighbors. However, my brother calls me saying saying I’ve made a huge mistake and the Z4 is a “hairdresser’s car” I’m not familiar with this term and I decided to brushed it off as jealousy but after Googling the term I’ve become self-conscious driving it.

Thoughts?

I'm in the market for a z4, wanted one for a long time and finally ready. My wife and I have a prequalified loan with our credit union which means we need to buy through a dealer. We can go up to $13000 (our budget, could have qualified for more), I would think this would be more than enough to find an older 3.0i with a 6MT, but they seem to be NOWHERE except California, we live in the North East US. Am I missing something? I'm constantly searching on the big auto sales websites. For example on Autotrader right now, with the parameters of under $15000, manual trans, 3.0, there are only 7 results in the whole country.

There must be dealers with inventory that isn't listed online. Are z4s really this scarce? Help!

EDIT: Thanks for the help so far guys. I forgot how great the BMW community is, it's been many years since my last one, a shitbox 318i convertible that I loved to death.

I'm looking to buy a new car and there's a couple Z4s near me that are in my budget, but only barely. What kind of costs would I be looking at for upkeep and maintenance?

The one nearest me has 105k miles, but the current owner doesn't know anything about past maintenance, as he received the car as payment for work he did for the previous owner.

05 3.0 smg won’t shift

Hey y’all! Today I was driving going about 80 km/h probably made it 5 mins from my house, I heard the car make a beep tried to make a left turn and the car wouldn’t shift out of 3rd. Pulled to the side of the road and then my car was stuck in neutral. Turned the car off for about 5 mins to look under the hood(didn’t know what I was looking for) turned the car back on and the car worked long enough for me to get to my home. Tried to turn the car in again and car won’t shift out of 1st and couldn’t even get the car started. I heard about the “salmon coloured fuse” under the hood can someone elaborate on this for me? I have some knowledge about cars but I’m not a good electrician in any way shape or form.

Tl;dr my z4 is not shifting into any gears. Can anyone elaborate on where the salmon coloured fuse is located? Or have any idea what could be wrong?

I am looking to replace my wifes phone. Currently she has the g7 power.

I have a Z4 and would love to get her one of them, but they are no longer available. I am on Verizon in the USA. I love all the specs of the z4. and so does she. except battery life, which is where the g7 power excels.

What new phone would you replace the z4 with?

Looking at G Power (2021 version) and One 5g. Is the One worth the extra cost compared to the G Power? Mainly use for socials and taking pictures. no gaming. We don't live in an area that will be getting 5g any time soon, but 4g speeds are fine even if we did.

Also looking at the Samsung Galaxy a42.
